Rick Allen tearing up is the single best thing I've seen on TH-cam in a very long time. He's such a humble and kind human. That audience did him well with an ovation.
💯
❤
I always get emotional when Rick gets those standing ovations he is an incredible human being and a real inspiration to everyone I wish I was half the man he is lots of love to Rick Allen
I'm a black guy and DEF LEPPARD is my all time favorite band! PYROMANIA was my first album that I bought by them and I wore it out. I had the neighbors complaining about the loud music, but I didn't give a damn! This ceremony and induction was so well deserved. I can't think of a group more deserving! They have truly earned it! The standing ovation for Rick did bring tears to my eyes. These guys aren't just bandmates but truly are as Joe said- "brothers. " I thank DEF LEPPARD for all the great music over the years. True fans, like myself, look forward to all the great things moving forward for this band and beyond. "True legends" is the term that I use to describe this band and their influence on rock-n-roll and music as a whole. Keep rockin', Guys! Music ain't nothing without you! You got my blessing! Peace.
Dude, the color of your skin doesn’t matter. If you like the music that’s all that matters. Music brings people together. 👍
The band needs a film on the big screen. They deserve it.
Ros Reynoso 💛
"Hysteria - the Def Leppard Story" was relased around 2000, but it was ...shit.
nah we already know the story. although a film just about Steve Clark would be great.
Rick's standing ovation was the best moment of the entire evening. I was there, sitting next to various non-Leppard fans, and even they were in tears. Seeing the true brotherhood among the guys ... amazing.
That ovation was pretty amazing. I was crying right along with Rick. I'm so proud of him.
Margarita He made me cry. Just the determination he had to keep going and the support he had gives me much admiration for these guys! I’ve loved them for years and saw them via a friend from Scotland who had taped a Top of the Pops with them performing back in the early 80’s.
Margarita No you weren’t there
we were straight back from the stage. i had tears in my eyes but when rick started crying that was it. i bawled like a baby. u could feel the love like it was physical. its hard to explain to those who werent there that night
jamie altman Nope
I will NEVER FORGET the day Steve died..... I woke up to get ready for school and heard it on MTV and the radio... My heart was SHATTERED. My mom let me stay home that day amd I cried ALL DAY!
I have LOVED Def leppard my whole life. keep rockin guys!!!
Much love and respect.
I like the way he thanked his mum and dad and even told of the specific contributions his parents made and acknowledged that the band wouldn’t have existed without them. What a lovely son
“If Alcoholism, car crashes and cancer couldn’t kill us, the 90s had no fuckin chance!!!” Great quote!!!
Nice! 😊
well he forgot heroine
I know the car crash is in reference to Rick and alcoholism is in reference to Steve, but who beat cancer???
Vivian Campbell has been fighting Hodgkin’s Lymphoma since 2013. He’s doing great, thankfully. Flies back and forth from concerts to receive treatment.
@@Greta5508 Thank you. Obviously I did not know that. I'm guessing that's why they have another guitar player substituting for Vivian from time to time. He does a great job. Last time they were in Buffalo, Phil had an emergency and had to go home. The substitute did a fine job substituting for Phil too.
Beautiful speech, and Rick's standing ovation nearly brought me to tears. You can see how emotional he was.
Much love to Steve Clarke, they abide & they indured...
@@philiphalpenny9761 Not easy when you can snap your fingers for anything you want.
Was he crying ? Because he was blinking his 👀 alot

Think about it, if it wasn’t for Pete Willis, there probably be Def Leppard today cause joe Elliot missed the bus and walked and bumped into him and as for Steve Clark, that was his college buddy. People don’t really know much Pete Willis did to make that band to get it going and deserves more credit. Yea joe Eliot can mock him and give him the elbow but if it was for Pete, you joe Eliot would of probably still be working at a factory
@@Cpk86 I think you mean wouldn't be a Def Leppard. And wasn't for Pete Willis.
a great frontman, Joe did a heck of a job with the speech, and Rick's tears summed up the joy these guys have, not just by being together, but playing for the fans
Joe it's just such an amazing public speaker / interview guests ambassador of rock and roll music. He is just such a huge fan and it shows.
What a class act Joe Elliot and these guys are. Down to earth and humble. A truly great band in rock history.
I agree! That is Def Leppard have been my favorite band since 1987!
MAD props for adding Pete !!!!!!!! Amazing , and shows the integrity of the crew. So very honored to have done a tribute show to your career !
STEVE CLARK ❤ Joe's speech is so honest to heart and moving. Love Def Leppard!!

What an amazing speech; thanks to parents and a former member. Such class!!! Don’t see this most days.
Ditto! Well said!
yes it was amazing. Just now heard it. I was so surprised at his manner. how many people are like this ?
Wow no kidding!
These guys are legit. You can tell that they are buddies not pretenders. I also want to add that they are still awesome live!
boxer314 very good speech. Very classy.
Rick Allen had me in tears 😭😭 😭❤️❤️❤️ he was the first member of the band i met back in 1992 when i was 13.
he's great! I met him in 1988, I was 21
Knowing that after 35 years Rick is still on his healing journey and shed tears upon a crowd, I could accept myself better, not being too hard on myself, on my PTSD-healing journey. I can come out on the other side stronger too. Thank you Rick.
When I saw this Saturday, I cried. Rick Allen's reactions got me right in the feels. Such well deserved and long overdue praise for one of the most influential Rock Bands of the 1980's and beyond. It was great to see some of the really rare photos shared, thank you for giving an amazing speech and thank you ALL for your incredible, genuine, humility. You had an impact on my life, and I am a happier person with your music in my life. ♥
Couldn't have said it better!
Omg I'm fighting back tears watching Rick.
Amen to that.
@@michellemabelle799 I'm fighting them back, but not doing so well.
Ditto ALL that!!
Such a classy speech.
I never heard these guys speak. I drifted here from Van Halen. I assumed they would be babbling idiots like most of my generation. I'm not a big fan, to each his own, but this guy is grounded AF. I like his "working class" grateful attitude. They overcame a lot of adversity. Not an easy way to make a living, even without tragedy. Great speech. Respect.
They have always kept their working class roots in their hearts. They are known for their strong work ethic, loyalty to one another, and being humble and down to earth in interviews and when meeting their fans. I’ve heard quotes from all of them saying how they are all great friends and really just love each other and have fun together. Truly brothers.
And on top of all that, they can still rock!
I’ve always loved Van Halen too, but that band was never short on egos and that has just never been a thing in DL.
Classy gentlemen
The standing ovation for Rick was awesome to see and well deserved. I've been a fan since 1980 and still listen to Def Leppard as loud as possible almost every day. Congratulations.

Ya that ovation gave me chills! Great speech congrats to them!
At 52, these guy's, keep me feeling younger, rocking to their music, every weekend, I am working around the house!
The first time in 1977 or 1978 that i heard Def Leppard i was totally hooked on their music period!!!!....
One of the greatest band in history.. RIP Steve Clark
Steve Clark's musical contribution was not just important for Def Leppard but was also instrumental in a lot of d 90s and later bands who looked to the sound of Def Leppard as an inspiration. Steve Clarke is without a doubt the most underrated guitarists of all time and it is a tragedy that he does not get the recognition he deserves from his peers and from the pathetic magazines and so-called industry websites
Very good speech. I was very heartened when Joe spoke of Pete Willis. He was a truly gifted man who simply couldn't fight off his demons. I cried during Rick Allen's standing ovation, as did he. Very touching. I cast my vote for them and was very pleased to see that a band I have been listening to for 40 plus years made it into the R and R Hall of Fame. No greater honor for musicians. Rock on gentlemen!!
Def Leppard is the best band of the world
Yes
Agree!!!!
I'm a little biased, but... YES!!
Can't argue with that.
No, Iron Maiden is! ✌🏻
Joe speaks so nicely. It can’t be easy to improvise a 10 minute speech in front of all those people. Oh and Joe, don’t be so hard on your wife... after all the purse has to match the shoes! 😉😉
Congratulations on your success. We love you all 😁❤️
Couldn't agree more, but he's definitely looking at a teleprompter, which you can see by him looking at the camera for most of his speech. I'm sure he wrote the speech, but he did not improvise it.
Keith Stone yeah I thought afterwards that it’s probably not improvised but still not easy to do without reading it from paper. And especially in front of that many people and not stuffing up! He speaks as fluently as the Queen does when she gives a message and I doubt he’s ever had any training in it.
@Joe Elliott Your not the real Joe

Def Leppard is the best rock 🎸 band in the world!!!
Joe is such a class act. Hard to not like him. His words about their parents, Pete Willis and Steve Clark were great. As a fan of their early stuff, it was glad to hear him speak fondly of those years.
I've been a fan since 1982 when i was 3 years old and can relate every DL album to a specific time period in my life. I've had the pleasure of meeting the boys multiple times over the years and my daughter's middle name is Vivian after Vivian Campbell. I'm so happy that after years of eligibility that the boys are FINALLY in the R&RHOF. brilliant speech, it isn't too often we hear Joe speak on this level.
@Bob Donald MY music? What does that even mean? I don't have to justify my musical preferences to some weirdo on TH-cam who comments a year later let alone comments something entirely off base and uneducated.
I was born and raised on the amazing rock acts of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. I despise grunge, I don't even remotely enjoy most rock music that's been released since the 90s. Take your Boomer theory and shove it.
@Bob Donald yeah, man, it's all good. Tbh, my parents are the same age as Def Leppard. They had me young, I grew up on their musical tastes but they actually weren't DL fans at first. MTV premiered when I was almost 4 and some of my earliest memories are Bringin on the Heartbreak and the videos from the Pyromania album. Even my husband who was born in 75 - his favorites are Poison and DL. Music doesn't know ages of its fans. You like what you like. That's why it's a universal language.
Joe what an excellent speech. Remembering Pete Willis. And our awesome Steve Clark. We love you Steve. And still together. I love you Joe. You are all brothers and family. You so deserve this because Def Leppard is a great band. Been with you so long. Just keep doing what you do.
I remember where I was when I heard about Rick's accident, and when learning of Steve's passing. But nothing has stopped this amazing band that just kept on going and maturing. Voting for their induction every morning when I woke up was def more of a charge than any cup of coffee ever has been...

Well, if were arguing best Def Leppard album, that's never a bad thing. You cant go wrong!
I also like my Leppard with a full complement of ten arms (actually 12, as the carcass would be rotting without Mutt).
I couldn’t stop smiling during the whole video especially during Rick’s standing ovation. I absolutely fucking love them. They are so legendary and underrated. It’s about time they got this.

What's amazing is that after Rick lost his arm, The band could have told Rick he couldn't carry on, but they let him (Rick) decide. They didn't care that they were a rock band and the drummer had one arm....unheard of. That's brotherhood right there. Oh, then they come out with Hysteria, unreal. See them live before they're gone. Amazing show.
@Luke yah, me and a buddy were going to see them in ny. Which meant "road trip". We had to cxl the hotel room. Let's see what happens in 2021.
They have said that when he first came back, there was no question he was still in the band....but...they had no idea how.....then hestarted practicing with one arm, they thought: OK, well that's good for his mental health.... so they just went along with it.....but of course nobody really believed he could actually come back and play Def Leppard! One day he called them all together and played one of their songs with his arm and his feet....they were all in tears by the end.

I feel a special connection w this band. Not only am I half English, but I was blessed to have met Rick Allen in person!! I was in a very bad car crash like Rick Allen where the car rolled. I drove and I was 16. He’s such a wonderful man and I met him! I have also seen Def Leppard in concert.
I'm from a small north town Arkhangelsk, Russia. And I listening Hysteria with my dad at mid 90's until today! Nowadays I'm almost 30 years old! Great work, guys! You deserved this reward! My sincere congratulations! ✌
I'm from a small town in USA and I started out listening to them when Pyromaniac came out.
@@ChrisDavis-jp8wq It's actually called Pyromania, not Pyromaniac ;-).

I used to listen to the song Foolin over and over on the Jukebox in the children's home i was in the early 1980's.
Many years later i was doing security at the Indiana state fair grounds in the early 2000's, and got to see them in concert.
I saw the drummer flying a kite while he was waiting before the concert.
So your band has been in my life for a very long time.

Def Leppard truly demonstrated the meaning of the word camaraderie after Rick Allen's accident!! Instead of dropping him like a bad habit, the band not only waited for him to heal himself, but they also figured out a way to integrate his custom built drum set into their performances!! Thathuge applause and ovation for Rick was so touching! To know the challenges he had to over come in life, and dealing with electronic drum technology in the '80's, and for him to do it so well, with dignity and heart is thing to see. A true inspiration!

This band marks my life, one day I will fulfill my dream of seeing you.🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Even though i'm not the biggest fan, but i want to congratulate Def Leppard by saying this...
My opinion, no commercial band, Manager or Label in the World, would've had the balls to support a drummer without an arm. Helping someone to overcome, goes way beyond any great riff, solo, concert, contract, success, money, platinum, gold...or fame. I'm a fellow drummer, a big hug to Rick with admiration.
WOW. This had me in tears 😭. I just stumbled upon this speech (sorry, yes I realize it’s from 2 years ago). Rick’s standing ovation was very touching and so well deserved and his reaction to what Joe said prior was heartfelt 💓. He is strong and can make it through anything! The whole band can! You’re my favourite band since the late 80’s! Thank you for the great music! 💕💕💕 and memories. Can’t wait to see you this summer here in CANADA 🇨🇦!!!
My favorite moment was Joe Elliot saying "Rick Allen everybody." The "everybody" is acknowledgement of the fact that rock n roll is so diverse and there's a sizable portion of the crowd who are not fans of " Dec Leapard" per se. But they are cousins in an extended family and they damn well know what happened to Rick Allen. So that standing ovation was heart warming cause it was earned from a larger demographic than the guys in the band were used to. You could see it on the faces of the bandmembers. Yeah, watching Rick get teary eyed was the highlight of the night along with the Stevie Nicks/Don Henley duet and watching Robert Smith sing "Just Like Heaven."
Strange to say, but Im so proud of these guys. I feel like they’ve always battled hard, really took what they do seriously and tried their best. Congratulations guys and thanks for being such a great part of my life with your music.
That was an amazing speech Mr. Joe Elliot!! Beautiful standing ovation for Mr. Rick Allen. Def Leppard truly is the photograph of brotherhood.

Def Leppard is my absolute favorite rock band in the world! I fell in love with them when I was a little girl. Flashback to 1983 and MTV. I was 10 years old. Def leppard had a heavy rotation of photograph, then I think rock of ages. Watching Joe swing that sword and wearing those tight black leather jeans. I fell in lust and became a fan. I have seen them 14 times. Most current was Sept 27, 2018 in Portland, Oregon at the Moda Center. I have a million reasons why they're my favorite band. Growing up has special memories with their songs. Good times, sad times. Their music has touched my life through tragedies and lost loved ones in my life. Long long way to go, got me through the loss of my beloved Grandmother and my loving father and 6 year old neice who passed with cancer. That song spoke to me and my heart and helped carry me through. There's just many of their songs i hold dear that have a special meaning or happy place. My other half and I song is Hysteria. We dance to it slowly at every Def Leppard concert.....When I found out that they were a nominee for this prestigious honor, I voted daily. This band is very deserving and have been through hell and back. Even through tragedy like losing Steve, Rick's accident, Viv's dealing with cancer. They stayed strong and true. They do what they do for them of course, but most definitely for their fans! I loved Joe's speech. His tribute to Steve their fallen brother. His recognition of Pete. His mention of Rick and what he overcome to continue his journey with Def Leppard. The love and admiration and respect he showed. It touched my heart very deeply. I thought that I loved them before, I just love them even more. This speech from Joe is just another reason why. I hope I am honored enough to meet them one day and tell them face to face how much I love them and what they mean to me. God bless and Congratulations!!! It's about bloody damn time!!!! And as Joe says at the end of their concerts. There will be a next time. Do us a favor aye. Don't forget us, and we won't forget you. ; )
Loved them since I was 3, when my Mom played her Vault cd and I heard them for the first time! Their induction was a long long time coming!!! Finally!
