  • LAVENHAM -The most beautiful village in the world | A walk round Lavenham Suffolk England
The medieval village of Lavenham is surely one of the most beautiful villages in England
We wake a look around this stunning village that is trapped in time
Lavenham Suffolk is in the civil parish and electoral ward in the Babergh district, in the county of Suffolk, England. It is noted for its Guildhall, Little Hall, 15th-century church, half-timbered medieval cottages and circular walks. In the medieval period it was among the twenty wealthiest settlements in England.
Lavenham village has a wonderful yet chequered history with many stories
St Peter & St Paul Church
The spectacular large church was built at the height of Lavenham's prosperity by Thomas Spring III in the late 15th century.
    HARRY POTTER FILMING LOCATION
Lavenham Guildhall was transformed into Harry Potter's parents' derelict house and in the film, Harry visits his parents' graves and their house in Godric's Hollow. Filming in Lavenham took place in secret in January 2010 and De Vere house in Water Street also appears in the film.
    De Vere House
The last house in Lavenham to be owned by the Earls of Oxford, also known as the De Vere Hunting Lodge, was one of three properties within the centre of Lavenham, attached to Lavenham Hall.
    Little Hall Lavenham
Little Hall, built in the 1390s, was once home to the Causton family. Since then the house has changed a lot from being divided up to house six different families in the 1700s to being restored and used as a museum today.
    Art and galleries
Lavenham is host to an array of galleries. Take a look at the Crooked House Gallery, a building full of 'wonky' charm.
Lavenham in Suffolk is widely acknowledged as the best example of a medieval wool town in England.
In Tudor times, Lavenham was said to be the fourteenth wealthiest town in England, despite its small size. Its fine timber-framed buildings and beautiful church, built on the success of the wool trade, make it a fascinating place to explore today.
Most of the buildings in Lavenham today date from the 15th century, many of these were never altered due to the fall of the weaving industry. Consequently the town is still very much on the same scale as it must have been in the 15th century.
The late 15th-century timber-framed Guild Hall overlooks and dominates the town’s market place. The hall was built by the Guild of Corpus Christi, one of three guilds founded in Lavenham to regulate the wool trade.
As well as its many historic buildings, Lavenham is also blessed with good pubs, fine places to eat and fascinating antique shops to browse around.
Long Melford, with its many antique shops and associations with the TV series ‘Lovejoy’, is close by. The towns of Sudbury and Bury St. Edmunds are also within easy reach. A little further afield you will find Dedham and Flatford Mill in the heart of Constable country.

I lived, went to school and worked as an apprentice Carpenter and Joiner at Garrods who occupied the De Vere house in the 1940s and 195os. This film has brought tears to my eyes with the beautiful memories that I have.

Well, I for one think it was indeed stunning, Mr Walk (or may I call you Gimbal? 😀) - seen pictures and heard it was lovely, but stunning is what springs to my mind - there are several other superlatives . . .
That 'Harry Potter' house was incredible ! Some of the carvings in the woodwork around the town is fantastic, such brilliant workmanship 💯
If I'm ever down that way again I shall visit. Many thanks for the walkabout!
Oh and I just loved that man with the long white beard sitting next to the telephone box - straight out of Rumplestiltskin - ha ha 😁

My father, John Martin, enlisted in the Army Air Corps (1942), age 18, and served as a gunner and radio operator on B-17s and B-24s. He was assigned to the 8th Air Force (487th Bomb Group / 387th BS) in England and flew 35 combat missions over Europe. Including one shown as "SECRET" on his papers.
He had left the service at the end of the war and worked as TV/Radio engineer. He was called back to duty for the Korean conflict but didn’t have to deploy and stayed with the new US Air Force. He retired after 26 years of active duty.
He never in 20 plus years talked about missions. The only event from that time was:
“The crew went to a local zoo on a leave day. They were surprised to see monkeys in the cages. Some of the crew had alcoholic beverages with them. They spent quite a bit of time in getting the monkeys drunk!”
Thanks for providing wonderful and impressive videos of that area. I am sure he enjoyed his time visiting the village.

Your videos are flawless and take us with you. I would just replace all the traffic with sensitive subtle background music. Unobtrusive classical music might suit. Chopin or Vivaldi. Or ask a friend to compose some, maybe run a competition to get peoples musicianship showcased. Lovely buildings. You make me want to visit there. And Tintagel. Thankyou.

Very True, and ALL alterations--if approved, are strictly observed afterwards. In BATH, a women painted her front door a bright colour, without permission, she had to change it back to black

WE didn't see the whole Village, the 'HIGH STREET' of most ancient villages and towns is the core of busines, where traffic flows and most Squares or created, when business expands, side streets are added, behind. those houses , are fields, and a River .
