Having near over 350bhp in the 90s is absolutely unheard of in a saloon car!. I saw my first in 1998 and it was better than seeing a Ferrari-
StaySafe people
My old man yesterday was showing me pictures of his Carlton GSi 24 V. 3.0L inline 6 top speed of about 150mph back in the 90s. Vauxhall were on their A game back then... Thanks for the vid Ricky
I once drove A GSI from Newcastle to Kent after it had been stolen from the Metro Centre in Gateshead having not long passed my test back then this was like a dream car experience .
@Giuliano Matrix Wasn't the Opala a rebadged Opel Rekord coupe? GM was one big global family. Shame that most of it has been shut down or sold off.
Police cars back then could only do 145 max the Carlton came out back then doing 175 police hated these at the times best for robberies
I remember getting a lift in a carlton gsi and it was naughty back in the day
@@chancetempleman1427police was even more pissed off by the fact that Vauxhall first sold them a big fleet of the 145mph Senators and then the same vauxhall released this. It was a bit backstabberish 😂
80s and 90s Vauxhalls were fire great motors🙏🏽👍👍
Yep, it went sour after the mk3 astra.
@@multipreach2674 i have a vectra c and love it my first ever vauxhall and its amazing to drive and reliable love the brand. 🙏🏽👍
@@multipreach2674 not really, the VXRs will go down as classics soon, they have a huge following and continue the asbo boy racer theme from the 80's and 90s
@@sundelight8230Had a vectra c for over 10 years i loved. Hate the new Vauxhall's their souless.
Proper proper geezer that owner!! Looking fresh Ricky, mentally and physically!! Way to go brother
Yeah, he's the kind of chap I can imagine would own a Lotus Carlton
I drove a turbo technics Sierra xr4x4 years ago and that was head and shoulders above any other I'd driven and I imagine that's what it's like to drive over a standard Carlton and I'm sure the Carlton was supposed to be competition for the m5 which is why it was so luxurious inside
Yes Mr LLF , giving us some sunday entertainment 😍
Ricky the kind of guy to say he taking a break from TH-cam.....then brings killer content days and weeks after....)
Loving this car and loving the new channel mate.. 😎😎🥰❤️🥰❤️
Good man, legendary car.
The reason they quoted the lower top speed was that is was dome at the Nardo Ring. On the flat the engineers saw 187mph. I got that from Kevin Burrows a key development engineer on the project. Love mine.
Yessss ricky 2nd video on the carlton LOVE IT!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely love this car
got to drive one while working for vauxhall. the owner of the vauxhall centre owned every fast vauxhall you could wish for plus a lotus and I got to drive them all! ❤
The gearbox in the LC is the same one used in the Corvette ZR1, a car which Lotus also helped to develop.
Awesome, love these beasts.
Love this car
So lucky man getting to drive the legend carton!!
This was a gangster car of its time beast!! 😎👌
This car is pretty sick 🔥🔥
Gorgeous car 👌
Well done respecting that car. Big history that young peeps today don't know about.
Big up Ricky always active
Amazing car legend
The Ultimate Weapon of its day
Amazing car bro' and video!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💪🏁
Matey is living the dream
Thanks for the pov of this legendary car. We didn't even need to ask for a pov you know us too well 😂
Imagine being sat in that on the motorway with the midlands police helicopter miles behind doing 180+ with the boys
I remember me dad had a vauxhall Carlton and then the omega, both were savages
New camera isit ricky awesome camera quality 👌
What a car bro
Such a ridiculous, unnecessary car. But such a brilliant, legendary car.
Vauxhall were at the top of their game in those days, with some truly classic models. My dad had a regular Carlton in the late 1980s and even now he reminisces about what a good car it was. The Vauxhall Omega (not the Opel Omega - which was the Carlton) was also a very nice car and I always aspired to have one even though I couldn't drive. I still love it.
British Bandit. Beautiful motor.
Fastest saloon in the world 1990ish, I bought a j reg gsi 2000 in 92-93ish from Wass Hunslet Leeds they had 1 in because I had bought the Gsi I asked if I could take the Lotus Carlton they had for sale , salesman just laughed at me he said I was to young but did let me sit in it lol.
My pals dad had an A reg vauxhall Carlton 2 litre,we used to cruise around in it about 90/91,the thing was vast inside,my pal thought it was too big when it was time for parking it,it guzzled the petrol 👍🏴🚗
Monster of a car
Prime example, fan boy! Pretty penny now!
Notification gang!
I've been in a Carlton gsi so i know there good but id love to go in one of those 🔥
MLR. A 'Millennium Falcon' for the road ! The modern day legend from Vauxhall or GM-H would need over 750Hp to go any faster/stop quicker than this Lotus ? V.
My favourite saloon from last century 🙏🏁😁
Car interiors of the 90’s had a lot going on
My mate had Carlton.. GSI very fast car very we done sum mad stuff in it lol
Hero car for me.
the fastest car in this area….wooooow…….!!!!!!
Great test guys
Wonder what’s happened to all the other cars as only just Over 100 left ??
Couldn’t understand why no trip computer or digital dash like the GSI of the same era
Stunning car
Proud owner
Loving the jacket with cars details etc on it as well
im guessing they were crashed or nicked and burnt out like other quick cars back then
@@BondoV2 The same reason why the 205 GTi and older Cossie models are so rare. They were pocket rockets and most of them ended up wrapped round trees or on their roofs.
Those who _do_ still have such cars aren't for selling, hence there aren't really many to buy. The cheapest Pug 205 GTi that I could find is £18k and better examples can go for nearly double that.
I’m a 2000s baby but this thing is outrageousssssssssssssssssss😮 I remember hearing about the infamous F1
May have a car review for you if your still doing them? Westfield megas2000s rotrex c30/94 supercharged
65k jheeeeeeeeeez
Reminds me of nights driving my old RS Cosworth on Cornish roads Always wanted one of these could of bought one back in 2001 for 15k Wish i had now but went for the Saph Cosworth instead
So was the RS2- these beasts are an exception to the rules.
Maybe you should try get a Monaro and VXR8 as that what a LC would compare too without the V8 noise if you know what I mean? But other cars in that category would be a Alpina B10 BMW or a Mercedes 190E evolution 2? I can't remember if that was unlimited over 155MPH but basically the LC was the car the reason 155mph was limited on saloon cars I think?
b10s were also unrestricted back then, uncle had a 3.3
0-60 in 4.9 seconds and 180 mph.
@@septacemic1537 3.4
@@kristianspencer1978 no, the b10 aplina is 3.3 lol
@@septacemic1537 if you check Google it’s a 3.4….
💣🖤
The managing director of fort Dunlop Tyers had one . I worked there and used to see it every day such I nice car legendary
Back in the days bankrobbers must have loved this car.
Is this guy a cop he sounds like a typical cop I’m sure he’s a lovely bloke Weather he’s a cop or not but he really sounds like a cop what a legendary car the Lotus Colten’s were always coveted by motor heads in the know I’ve only ever seen them in black I wonder if they only came in black I’ll have to google it cheers Rick cheers constable 😂👍Wow just googled the colour of the Carlton they only came in the one colour Imperial green so dark that it looks black in less you look directly at it in sunlight what’s the point might as well just do it black 😕
Like the old jag mk2 they were untouchable in there day hence bank robbers cars and this lotus was the same a gang went on a string of robberies with one and was never caught and the car never found
40 RA was found about 6-8 weeks after it was stolen. It was found underwater near Solihull and had roof damage consistent with being hit by a boat.
The car was dumped either because it broke down (I don't think it was examined in that level of detail when recovered) or the robbers felt too much heat and discreetly wanted shot of it.
You should do a review of the ghost rider scooby, driver puts it on two wheels round the side of a police car
The owner really reminds me of the British actor Ricky harnett !
Had a new drivers door judging by the slightly different colour?
Llf
I see this car today by the roundabout on Clacton Road. Absolutely savage. Any chance of a spin in it with you?
Hi mate yeah I'm sure we could sort something out as we are in the same town
The car the police could Not catch, that's Official from the police themselves 👍✌
Looks rapid
The is cold
Is that bottom end good enough for much for than 377bhp ?
That crank and those bearing caps do have a load limit.
The bottom end is totally forged from factory and is capable of pushing 900 bhp which has been achieved abroad I'm Belgium 550 600 is comfortable for the cars before you have to think about upgrading drive shafts and other bits but engine is fine
@@paulrees3298
You can have problems with:
Oil film thickness.
Bearing cap ovality.
Bearing cap bolt failure.
Crank distortion, causing bearing contact.
Crank failure in torsion.
Conrod buckling.
Head gasket.
Head bolts.

Thanks for the concern, but we do understand these engines and know what we are doing those that have these cars modified do talk and ask advice etc, it's not just something we have thrown together
@@paulrees3298
So how did you know that they were capable of 600bhp then ?
Just run it at 600bhp and see what broke ?
I've been in engine design for 20+ years so really do wince when I learn about 3rd-party companies turning the wick up on OEM engines, when the OEMs would (should!) have done years of simulation, analysis, lab & vehicle tests.
There's a particularly evil one called the 400 hour manifold crack test, which many OEMs use as a sign off and I doubt many tuning houses would.
Lotus Cortina next plz
Yeah I agree Lotus Cortina awesome and the Lotus Sunbeam Lotus should try and release more of these collaborations they’re awesome
Thrashed the life out of one of these when I worked @ Priory Motors In the 90s .The customer was well pissed as he had fitted a Stack system and recorded the whole ride .
Well that’s nothing to brag about
Could outrun a police helicopter. Tried to ban it in parliament. Brilliant car , not like Vauxhall now. Even the vxr8 isn’t as much fun, might be faster but that is modern this is a true monster.🏴🚙
I'm sure there is an article in autocar from the time saying the m5 should be its rival but it was pointless bringing it as the carlton shot off up the road by 10 car lengths in 2nd gear alone when pulling from a slip road. Id imagine with anymore power it would be trying to easily break free in 3rd gear haha
The e34 b10 alpina bi-turbo was the direct rival to the lotus Carlton.
Sou do Brasil, quanto custa um desse hoje? Quem dera se ele viesse para o Brasil na época...
A Chevrolet fez ele aqui, com esse motor 3.0 e o 4.1 mas o cabeçote era 12v...
Import a 24v Vortec/Atlas 4200 I6 from North America. These cars (lotus carlton) are ridiculously expensive because of their rarity. The 4200 was in GMC, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, SAAB suvs and trucks in the 2000's so it's not expensive or rare and you'll have a full 1000cc more of displacement to take advantage of
Did he say "fenders" fml... you're British man not a yank!! It's a fricking Wing!
Any update on this?
Mates dad had one every time his mum and dad went on holiday the keys were no where to be seen because they knew it would be getting thrashed hiscdad could see it in all our eyes whe we looked at it he knew we knew what it was without saying anything to him about it the supercar killer
Just come across this video and that actual car lives literally one street away from where I live
These cars would do 190mph+ aswell if you could push it enough my old man had one and got 192 out od back in 2002
I can't believe that these Carltons along with the more affordable Senetor 3.0L 24v and the GSi 3000 24v were a time piece from Vauhall when they came out.. I use to see quite a few GSi 3000 24v, and the odd Senator 3.0L 24v about.. But I only had the privilege of seeing 1 Lotus Carlton up close and personal parked up in Hammersmith Hospital car park back in the 90's.. (Probably belonging to some surgeon).. Lol Back then I was into cars as a nipper, a tad naive as I never really appreciated what I was looking at, not like now?? Like now.. I'd cream myself if I was to see any of these cars again knowing what I now know about cars.. Such a shame these high performance machines was a thing of its time.. and never will it be repeated again, as we make way for EV's.. 🤮 Lol
no lie the cav sri from a f reg use to do 70 to 75 in 2nd 110 in 3rd so that is mad to think that only does 70 in 2nd
They do 80 in 2nd.
A mk 1 unloaded car derived astra van could pull 60mph in second gear from the 1.3 OHC engine on a four speed manual box. Gm and vauxhall used to make beasts, unless it was a pushrod 1.2 nova, in which case it was a slug.
Omega despois de usar anabolizantes
Hi everybody. I am not form England and do not know if I understand some parts of the film properly. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP? 1) About the top speed: the owner says the "book top speed" was 177 mph, but "he managed (?) to reach 186"? 2) Thay talk about the number of Lotus Carlton / Omega still "alive" and on the road. And the owner aswers: "we belive 101 - 102 cars"? 3) This particular car no 864G - do I understand properly that this is already tuned do 550hp or is it still stock and the tuning is comming soon?
The book speed was 177mph but because the car caused such an outrage with the police and government that was the played down speed from vauxhall and Lotus, the cars from factory can hit 186mph,
From info on.rhe Internet of how.many left that states there is around that figure.of the LC moted and.taxed on the roads today,
My car is number 864 of 950 cars built total that's 284 LCs and 666 LOs
The cars where 377bhp book power but like the speed this was played down by Vauxhall and Lotus and the cars actually left the factory at Hethel at 400bhp some a little more,
Mine is still standard but once mapped on the 16th Aug will be around 550 600 bhp
The actual top speed is189.5 mph (305)... but you can only reach that speed if you shift into 6th gear once the 5th gear has reached the red mark, otherwise it stops at 285 /177.
A secret trick to hide the real top speed.
yoo
This. Car was build for the family for picnic because of one day day off.lol
Speedo blacked out in editing or something placed there to not incriminate anyone 👀🧨💥
Yes Einstein 😂😂 only joking
Bro you sound like Klashnekoff
This car is still faster than the Police cars of today. They wouldn't stand a chance. Can you imagine the reactions on their faces when chasing this car, they have their foot to the floor and this car just keeps out accelerating them at their top speed until it disappears from their sight. Hell. Just the name makes them drop a brick in their pants.
"We have a stolen WHAT?! Oh oh!" (PTSD kicks in)
And bear in mind, back in the 40 RA days the police didn't really have high powered dedicated traffic cars like they do today. Most officers were in woolly uniforms driving a crappy Rover Metro, stock Escort, or an Astra GLE. They also didn't have the right intelligence infrastructure to be able to trace the car (no ANPR, very little CCTV, no mobile phone data for any potential suspects etc.) so it's not like they could ambush it or predict its movements.
You can see how they just gave up.
Why does he always always always answer the question when asking the question
Megga money..
Lucky lucky people! Drive on once in a. Auction yard .so yer seething with jealousy
Wow wow £££££
40RA....... rip
Criminals loved this car because the police could never catch up with them... the real gangmobile🚀
Wait what 65k insurance? 🤣🤣
No lol 65k is the price of the car lol
But you had 2 passengers , that's another 180kgs

My Dream.-........ this.... is........my.----.....life......long........:DREAM
POV means ???
I prefer thick steering wheels big hands better grip the thin ones do my head in.
Point of view
You like golf?
Not as fast as the e34 b10 bi-turbo alpina, 4.9 seconds 0-60 and 180 mph.
The LC is faster 186mph top speed that's why it held the record for close onto a decade, Richard Noble got the car to hit 62mph in 4.6 sec and top speed of 186mph on a test track so info wrong that the BMW was quicker
it's got lefor, fird gear, and he forth! the frottle
Can't any one speak proper these days or what!
Wat to much Pukkerism here even if the car is sweet
