Lotus Omega vs Swedish police (Very high quality)

  • High quality video clip from the swedish police in pursuit of a speeding Lotus Omega.
Police car is an un-marked Saab 9-3 2.0t and therefore a bit slow.
I do not claim to own the rights to this movie, I just got annoyed that all versions on youtube are either fast-frowarded or in very bad quality.
Although the driver of the Lotus got away in the pursuit, the police later went to his home.

Okey, let me point out a few things. Do you see when this video was posted? 21st of June 2009. The video was already old at that time. Now compare it to most other reels of this clip that are either sped-up, or in 240p with very low quality encoding.
    Finally, go play with yourself.

Mr Downsett, are you just unlucky or did you have to try hard to write that comment?
Why on earth would I change the title when this upload is one of the highest quality available for THIS video?
Unless you find out a way to remaster the original video at the swedish police office, I will keep the title just the way it is.
The gentleman next to you won a cookie for their splendid comment - you sir won the whole friggin box.

the Lotus Omega was an absolute beast in its day. Unfortunately, it was also very prone to defects, especially the clutch was a permanent guest at the mechanic's. I once had contact with a Lotus Omega on the main road. At that time I was driving my Kawasaki GPZ900R and in front of me the Opel which I classified as an Omega 3000. When I tried to easily pass him, it catapulted the Omega away. I had to turn the Kawa into the red zone to catch up again and only then did I see that it was the extremely rare Lotus model. At the next traffic light we nodded to each other.

      @miljororforsprakpartiet290 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

So much happened in those years. GPZ 900 had only 240 kph top speed, so already at 200 it should start to struggle big time. Meanwhile the marginally newer ZX-11R could keep up with the Omega's 283 kph speed (of course humiliating it in Accelation.).
Both vehicles are legends for sure. Nothing to match it these days

The Lotus Omega was tested by many car magazines when it was new in 1990. Since many testers saw 300km/h (186mph) on the speedo, the performance of 283km/h (176mph) wasn't just a theoretical top speed which many supercar manufacturers (no names not to offend their fans) still used to brag with.
Some of them were even tuned to around 500hp meaning nothing could match them at the time. Since they are rare elsewhere and look inconspicuous they are truly sleeper cars in every sense of the word.

It was and still is an incredibly quick car. They took the engine from the Carlton/Omega GSi (3000cc 24v) an already quick motor in its day, bored it out to 3600cc then stuck on two T25 turbo's. A limited run of 950 were made. Top speed - +176 mph (283 km/h)

Irmscher also bored the engine out to 4 litres and tuned it to create a fast Irmscher Senator, which looks almost as good as the Lotus Carlton with it's bodykit. I used to have one of these. I was cruising at 130 kph on a straight stretch of the SS7 between Villa Laterno and Casal di Principe near Naples one day when a Mini came up behind me. An impatient Neapolitan driver was at the wheel flashing his lights at me. I dropped from 6th to 4th and floored it. I saw a Carabinieri enter the highway at Casal, let off the gas, and looked down. 245 kph and the Mini was nowhere in sight.

@@pd4165 There is truth to attempt to get it banned in the U.K. They were the gold standard of getaway vehicles back then and the police had nothing at all that could touch them. Cross county policing wasn't what it is these days, police helicopters were few and far between and CCTV cameras along the main routes were only just starting to appear. No matter what the rozzers were using to run them down, as soon as one of these things got a clear run on a motorway in the early hours, ten times out ten, they were gone.
It wasn't the police themselves, but the ACPO, which was essentially council of chief police officers, who wanted to ban them from the roads. It was pretty well covered in the press at the time, with at least one major newspaper launching a campaign in support of the ACPO's proposal.
