So here's the video for another one of those covers I did for Norm the Gaming Historian back at the end of last year: The end credit theme from Super Mario Bros 3 on the Super Nintendo . I am particularly fond of this tune and the sort of happy melancholy it evoques. I feel I've worked a sound that seem to work well for these Mario games, chilled and with that mix of fun and melancholy so I'll definitely do more at some point.
thanks man. was fun working on these for ya . It's always cool to dig the flutes and whistle out, it's a really expressive instrument if you let the breath show up in the playing. The video came out great too, it really fit the whole vibe of the documentary .
I was going say that when I heard this I began to tear up. It brought back so many memories of my childhood and remembering when I beat SM3. Thanks Ollie
Kondo's staff roll themes for Mario always had such a warm sense of finality to them, like the audible equivalent of those "Thank you for playing!" messages you'd get at the end, and it was never more appropriate than here with SMB3's whole stage show conceit when the music itself picks up for a literal curtain call.
The first time I heard this I had I fallen asleep while watching The Gaming Historian and in my dream this song was playing in my head. The only way I can explain it is that It was pure heaven!
This is definitely my favorite cover of this song. The choice of instruments has to be the best part. Other covers seem to be more orchestral and they lose the fun & joyfulness that you get from the banjo picking, the nylon stringed instruments and the tiny flute looking thing. The descending accordion is a great addition too. It adds a lot of movement and melancholy to the arrangement.
I just "de-dusted" my old nes .. just for play this one more time , who knows.. maybe its my last time. Btw , awesome cover .. i cryed when heard it from Norm
First time I beat this game I was like 10, couldn't believe when I heard this song, spent endless hours trying to get to that point, started to cry lol
Man you killed it! I keep coming back to this after i woke up in the middle of night and this cover played in the end of the Mario 3 documentary. Melted into my brain that night.
such a great ending theme. This and LoZ Ocarina of Time ending theme, there's just something about it that makes you ponder the journey and makes you proud of what you've accomplished
A year ago, I lost a good friend and almost had my family torn apart. This song helped me during that time. Thank you, it is a happy / sad combo (fun / melancholy) for me.
After watching the historian video I had to track down this song. I checked out a number of your songs and I enjoyed them all but this is my favorite. Good work on this one elevating the original material.
This was absolutely lovely. Your cover took me back to my childhood, finishing the game in front of my family on their tv. The memory was so sweet and your arrangement is so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for this.
Jesus man, great skills you have. When you played the flute it hit me so hard, I have tears coming out of my eyes. Super Mario 3 is my favorite game of all time and that part with the flute really took me back to when I first played this game in my hometown
A 30 year old guy getting teary eyed on some music pulled out of a pixelated game that existed 2 decades ago. And I feel no shame on saying that. If you heard this music in your childhood, that means you are one of those who conquered the challenges of 8 worlds, and the challenges of your parents that keep nagging you to stop playing video games coz it will ruin your eyes and melt your brain. This right here is a trophy of a childhood accomplishment. And this cover hits through the softest spot of my heart. To this awesome guy, THANK YOU.
Beautiful cover! I’ve always loved that one and it seems to be overlooked quite often. Your description of happy melancholy fits perfectly, I was never sure how to describe it correctly and you nailed it.
@@lonewolffang You got it all messed up, the boot is the best part. I legit remember using save states on the virtual console version so I could play the boot level whenever I wanted. Something about that boot just makes me happy, it's a shame it was only used in one level.
Koji Kondo crafted soundtracks for games like, Mario Bros. 3, MarioWorld, and Zelda A Link to The Past that all spoke a cohesive language. The ending credits sound exactly like what you would expect from the entire soundtrack - it fits soo perfectly well.
Ah, this beautiful piece. It was PERFECT for the credits from the YT video "The Story of Super Mario Bros. 3". I just had to like this one! Beautiful work, Ollie! It's so undescribably beautiful that I actually shed a tear!
jojojoj que geniooo soss!! esa cancion me hace casi llorar!! jugabamos super mario 3 con mi papa y mi hermana todos los dias. lo dimos vuleta mil veces.
Ah, back when videogame music had the sweetest melodies. SMB 3 have one of my favorite endings songs ever. Your rendition of it is top notch man. Congrats from Brazil.
This is fantastic! I'm an instant fan. Beautiful audio and video production, not to mention a wonderful cover. Videos like this are the best parts of the internet. Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity!

I would like this theme could be played during the credits of the Super Mario Movie, this would be so epic.
To be honest, why does it give a great legend of Zelda vibe, it is perfect

This brings back memories of beating Mario 3 and getting the ending. Thanks.
haha kudos, I never finished it back then (save states and emulation solved that recently though ) :)
@@banjoguyollie the wosrt world was the plant world, the level where you had to jump around in a giant boot.
