Is there a contest?
What tuning is this? OMG I need to try this....not the drilling part tho ;)
What did it sound like before?
So what was the effect this had on the tone. It would have been really useful if you had recorded it first without holes then rerecorded it with the holes and give us the two track to run through some software that would allow us to analyze things like harmonic analysis and sustain in a rigorous way. BTW great playing!
the holes were his strategy to lure us into hearing his amazing skills at playing guitar
And it worked!
@@Sabamonster Only once.

Honestly, I'm not sure whether the "holes" add a lot.
With this kind of skill and expertise whatever one plays will sound excellent with or without the holes.👏🏾🎸

I would love to hear a none drilled hole version to hear what the difference between the two would be. Love the sound and hope you keep it up.
It's just an idea for a video. Obviously, it would be much better without the holes. But it's fine with holes, too.
Yes! We need to hear the difference!
It's not going to sound different. That's why he didn't do a comparison, it was just for clicks.
Then you'd realize that it sounds good because he's a good guitar player, not because drilling holes in a guitar is a good idea.
@lightworker2956 Well, yeah, it sounds good because he's good at playing the guitar.
I just wanted to hear what the difference the holes make with vs no holes since I'm not an audiophile and can't tell the difference. Having a nonhole comparison would make it easier to tell what drilling the holes do to the sound.
It's not the guitar that's unique, just your guitar skill alone is the whole reason why this sound so good

It would have been interesting to hear how it sounded before drilling the holes compared to after drilling the holes just to hear the difference , but still, I agree with everyone else here- that was just amazing!
the sound clips should also be "raw" with no processing to make it a real comparrison.
Facts the holes are a pointless gimmick without the comparison.

Please go listen to some flamenco, classical, fingerstyle, or bluegrass. I'm a massive metal and prog fan, but some of those nuts in the genres I mentioned will blow your mind on acoustic. Don't get me wrong Bernth is stupidly amazing, but he plays like an electric player, not an acoustic player.
@ShadowKatt classical/acoustic guitar is way more technical than electric guitar. Seriously the OG rockstars. Search 'La Catedral' by Barrios (all 3 parts, specially the last one). It will blow your mind. Enjoy!

You are so talented, and you make it look effortless. The harmonics are really lovely with the increased air flow.
He should have performed the same songs before the holes so we have a base line for the improved sound.
would have been exactly the same 90% of it was effects..
Guy can genuinly play though.
The amount of reverb the holes added was amazing.😮
This guy's the model of efficiency... This is how you play maximum guitar with minimum effort. Literally stunned by this guys ridiculously 'Work Smarter, Not Harder' play style. So little movement for the complexity that is showcased. Ive played for 25+ years and what he's doing doesnt even look real its so good....im going right now to re-assess the way im playing. I see what he's doing, and its brilliant. Even better, it is a learn-able (don't care if that's a real word or not it fits) skill! Just never looked at the fretboard that way! Weird. Thank You, my man with the dreds, that is killer stuff!
I'm a 20 year guitar amateur lol, leaning I pick it up and put it back down long ago. Now I'm back because my son is interested.
Let me ask, what dofferes in his fret approach or playing style versus what you are used to.
I want to support this huy because his vods are good, but I still can't tell "why" it's good and this may be where the answer lies.
Let me know.
I bet it doesn't work.. without pickups, amplification, and edits. It's just lots of hammer ons. Not to hate on him but just not sure how it's new, there are lots of players with this style that take it even further.
What I don't get is how is he able to get the hammer ons and pull offs to sound so clear on an Acoustic. Is this a light gauge of string and a lower action?.He doesn't seem to be fretting hard. I am really struggling physically to do this on my Acoustic that has a heavy gauge and high action.
@@guitarpaul3645 Probably light gauge, low to medium action. His right hand is heavy enough to make it sound crystal clear on amps
The word you were looking for is Learnable. So yes. It is a real word just there's no hyphen
*DUDE!!* Your sweeping arpeggios are INSANE!!! You are seriously skilled.
I don't think "seriously skilled" comes close to describe the level of this guy. I've seen tons of videos but this is just breathtaking, I guess he was born with a guitar in his hand.

The holes were a gimmicky move but I forgive you because it allowed me to experience your amazing playing and great song.
This not only sounds amazing but your playing is next level.
He couldn’t play like that before the holes
If i ever get to this level not only will i drill holes in my guitar but also break its neck
Agree.
100%talent no bullshit 😮
I don't see how the holes would affect the strings at all, but I imagine it increases the resonant frequency of the body. That would boost the highs a bit, boost the mids a bit more, and lose some of the lower range. That would make the guitar brighter and sound more detailed, which is what you're going for in this track.
You could probably get the same effect by using a smaller body or putting something in the body to temporarily make the cavity smaller.
Indeed, it is in essence a helmholz resonator, so the bigger the throat area, the higher its resonant frequency. The spacing of the extra sound holes may add some weird muting too
An equalizer would cover all of that
I drilled holes in my room mates guitar.
She was a LOT less impressed.
It might have been that i also filled it with expanding spray foam and exchanged all the strings with knitting wool.
Personally I thought it sounded MUCH better afterwards [as she smashed it against the stair rail in frustration]
I love the classics.
Very nice, well done! One thing I'd like is to hear the difference without effects because I'm genuinely interested!
So would I back to back before and after clean and dry no effects.

I listed a few of your guitar-destroying experiments (like this, the Fireworks one, and the Farewell submerged in water video) to my friend and joked “This man needs to be stopped”, but honestly? Never stop. Your music is incredible and I can’t get enough of it.
It’s so dishonest though. Not saying he can’t play as he’s clearly a very good guitarist but he absolutely drenches the guitars in reverb and delay. I’m worried some kid who has no idea about post-processing is going to dunk his guitar in water and wonder why it sounds utterly shit.
@@UltimateWobbleBoss I think people doing dangerous things have a responsibility to put a disclaimer so that children don’t try it, but I’m not sure the same thing applies to a guy just playing a guitar. He’s already pretty damn clear that it’s destroying the guitar and that you shouldn’t try to do this, I’m not sure what more you could ask from him. Any kid that dunks his guitar in water and finds out it sounds like shit is going to learn about post-processing the hard way, but learning things the hard way is called “being a kid”. I just think it’s really disrespectful to Bernth’s skill to say that his music is “dishonest”. He put in all of the hard work to get this good, that’s the definition of honesty.
@@UltimateWobbleBoss Just to clarify, I’m disagreeing with you but I do respect your opinion and I’m not trying to imply you shouldn’t be saying it. I know people can be real assholes in YT comments so I wanted to be clear on that. I liked hearing your opinion, I just don’t really agree.
@@UltimateWobbleBoss dude, look up a resonator guitar and then rethink your point
@@Hewarya This is still my comment thread and I would ask that you please be polite. If not, take it someplace else.
You play guitar to an extent where my brain cannot figure out whether to listen to it just for the essence of it or to figure out the amazing notes you find out to play. Best wishes man, keep creating beautiful melodies alike.
This reminds me of a documentary I saw comparing a Stradivarius with a French violin.
An acidic solution was applied to a normal violin resulting in air cavities in the wood.
The result: it sounded very much like the Stradivarius.
Sound holes release internal pressure inside the cavity. When the strings vibrate, they move air in all directions, including into the guitar. When there are few holes, you increase your sustain, because the air pressure sustains the movement of the string. But when you put sound holes in. That internal pressure is reduced, and the strings can vibrate more freely. But, since theres less pressure moving through the strings, you'll lose the sustain. ~ Your friendly neighborhood Luthier.
Let us not forget the brave little guitar that gave its life to bring this song to us all.

All I heard was electronic processing. Sounded nice but how do you attribute that to holes in the guitar? Its not out of the realm of the possible that the dude is just trolling.
Also can't tell what's going on with all the effects. Like is that reverb added?
@@TheJofrica That's the treeverb. It's from the treeholes. Treeholes in action.
No. It’s a direct detriment to the guitar and nothing but click bait. If you do this it will render the guitar practically worthless for normal use without the addition of post processing. The s/hole is a focal point for a reason. And we don’t build them in this manner for a reason. Basic math. He’s carried by ability and after effect. Don’t be drawn in by nonsense like this.

Thanks my man
Try picking up the drums first if you've never learned an instrument before. It's a lot easier to get into it and sound ok enough to want to practice more, I mean you can sound fairly good with your hands, a desk, and your own thigh.
There's lots of other percussion instruments the skills translate fairly well over to.
And once you learned one instrument learning another one isn't so hard.
Also, a huge plus is you can get an electric set and practice almost completely silently. Not disturbing neighbors or your own self consciousness.
Or you can jump straight to guitar, that's what most people do.
It's so nice to see you this inspired and constantly coming up with new ideas, all while defining a style that is only your own. Keep It up!

My grandfather once told me that guitar is infinite. There is no limit on what you can do on the guitar. The possibilities are endless. Seeing you find those harmonics made me remember that.
Not sure that'd been impossible w/o the holes either...
Any instrument with strings piano, guitar, violin etc are only restricted by their air flow, container and lenght of strings...plus of course electrical pick ups and tricky processing, which is also unlimited. People make guitars out of cigar boxes... EG th-cam.com/video/ysx27Wo2a6Q/w-d-xo.html
