  • FILMING a professional commercial with the SONY A7IV
    this is the first commercial I have filmed with the sony a7iv and boy it did a great job. I did have a few troubles but that was mainly due to my planning. the 4k 50fps with the crop caught me off guard and forced me to shoot on another day.
    Overheating is an issue a lot of people are getting but I still haven't gotten this issue yet. Have you?
    Overall I am very happy with the performance in this particular shoot with the Sony A7IV. The best features were the focus mapping, autofocus tracking, focus breathing compensation for the GMaster lenses and the APS-C crop mode in full frame 4k.

    So thankful there are actual professional videographers making videos about their gear instead of the mass amounts of people that only make camera reviews with their gear. Oh yeah I got my A7IV a couple of days ago! Getting myself intimate with all the settings before I head out.

      I don't think Sony a7 IV is mostly used by professional videographers. So probably most would take benefit from the videos that you complained about...

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ Actually movie and TV videographers would be less likely to use it but the A7III was extremely popular among professional wedding, event, and stock videographers. Most of the TH-camrs I'm referring to will be making a new video of another camera or drone offered to them by manufacturers before even a week passes by.

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JayWandersOut I get you and yes, I can understand it. But still, I just think every opinion matters to someone if not another... Appreciation doesn't need comparison. That was my feeling :)

    nice to see a real world usage of the camera and the compensation for the minor crop issue. can't say any professional I know would drop a camera just because you need to change lens for for 50/60frames mode but reading the youtube comments you could end up thinking there are no professionals in the community LOL 😂

    What helps my understanding tremendously is following a professional's workflow using the "tool of choice" - this is what sets you apart from the many content providers that simply run through menu settings and/or regurgitate company product marketing material. Thanks for allowing me to benefit from your real-world education regarding the "What", "Why", and "How."

    Excellent content here 🙌🏽💯👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I’m still rockin x2 a7Riii’s and an a6600 as I’m equally a hybrid shooter and need high res photos + high end video features. I would have absolutely upgraded all 3 cams to the a7iv if they unlocked the crop and also a few minor things. My Riii’s also crop in 4K, which I’ve adapted to, but would be nice to not have that. This new cam and tech does give me great hope for what’s next in the line up for sure. You’ve got a new sub here! Cheers! 🙌🏽💯📷

    Appreciate the review, agree on the crop.. in studio work, if the DP or director wants a 35mm 4K, they get 35mm 4K. No excuses on the crop. They'll just tell you to throw the camera away and get another camera.

    • @tonytech5520
      @tonytech5520 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When it comes to motion pictures, 35mm wasn't the same as 35mm in still photography. For a long time the cinema standard was Super 35, which has a crop factor similar to APS-C (1.5). That has started to changed with the advent of full-frame cinematography.

Having done a ton of videography with corporate interviews and more recently added a huge architectural photography component, I am really looking forward to exploring the hybrid photo/video aspects of this camera. I am glad to hear the IBIS worked well for you, since I shoot mostly handheld, that was my biggest issue leaving the Panasonic system. Were all the lens you used without OSS? You were just relying on the cameras IBIS, right? You still found it usable without post stabilization?

      Now I am back at mft with gh6 since it works so much better for me than the a7siii. It is a more "professional" Camera I would say. I have no experience with the a7iv until now and watch a lot of reviews but I don't think I will change. So I would be curious about your Update. Side note: I am mostly filming weddings.

      No rig would mean no external video for directors monitor. Would need a monitor Mount. Potential for changing batteries more often. Having to power other accessories with their own battery. No handles. Etc. many advantages for cages but clean rigs can still do the same job. Right cage for the right job

    Thank you so much for a real world review of the camera !
    I wanted to ask if you could share what IBIS setting and camera setup you were using when you filmed the commercial ? The footage looked really steady and I wouldn't have guessed it was shot handheld.
    I also wanted to ask about how the A7IV faired with the IBIS and the 24-105's OSS, I haven't come across any test footage of this setup and I'm curious to know what you think of it. I'm picking up this lens with the A7IV for video work, so I would really appreciate it if you could share your thoughts.

      I actually tested this on my IG. The 24-105mm is incredible with the a7iv. Most of the shots I used regular ibis. There was one shot I used active steady to get extra smooth dolly movement

    Would you say the a7iii is still a useful camera to get?
    Just wondering if it's worth the extra $1200AUD for the newer model?

    I shot indoors for 30 minutes and had overheating issue. Were you using the XAVC Intradrame codec?

  • @cjonwickham1933
    @cjonwickham1933 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you try a wider lens than 24? For indoor shots. Or step down 4k 30fps or change shooting resolution or maybe more different several angle shots from room...sometime it takes several takes...also lighting is important rather sources from windows sun ceiling etc.

    Hi Jason, I am considering buying the Sony A7 IV and I would like to ask you a question. If I activate all the stabilizations possible in the camera during the shooting phase (even in the zoom lens ), will the video I get slightly decrease in quality? I mean its definition, etc. Thank you.

    Hey Jason, off topic question but how do you maintain a gym routine while doing film work? Sometimes I find myself in situations where I can’t go and it’s really messed up my routine to where I don’t even go anymore due to work. You and this one other TH-camr are like the only ones I’ve seen who do film work and look like they work out a lot. I miss being fit 😂

      I always try to exercise first thing after I get up. This gives me time to work and everything else after

    How did you manage to use the tilta full cage on the a7IV. I got one and it does not fit because the a7IV is slightly bigger.

    Hi Jason! a very urgent question for you; this saturday i will have a wedding and i don't want the overheating of the A7IV. Which is the best solution? buy the atomos ninja V and rec by it or the v battery? i don't understood. Thanks so much

    Hi Jason, thank you for the great content. I have the a7iv and am having trouble sending 4K 60 to atamos ninja v… I get no signal. 24 and 30 comes in clean. I am not trying to capture external raw, just prores422. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you all for your help.

    • @JasonMorrisphotocinema
      @JasonMorrisphotocinema  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An easy rig is an overhead stabiliser. Mainly takes the weight off your arms and not make things steadier as such

    Try a pattern light to break up, add texture or color to a flat wall. Cheers

    Interesting video! What ISO would you consider to be the max usable ISO with this camera for video? At what point does the noise reduction from the camera overpower the image and make it soft and blurry?
