I am petitioning my husband to buy me this machine and the more things I find to do with it, the more practical the purchase seems to be! As an elementary music teacher, I would LOVE to make the last piece as gifts for the other music teachers in my district! Thank you for sharing!!
You can do actual raised paper embossing - just using the Cricut Explore stylus tool normally. Lay a craft foam sheet on the mat. Lay cardstock on top of the craft foam, taping the corners of the cardstock to the mat to hold it in place. For a heavier embossed look lightly dab the cardstock with a VERY LIGHTLY dampened cloth after taping it to the craft foam. Change image of choice to score. Set the dial to CUSTOM choose Corkboard, Adhesive backed 1.6mm or for softer cardstock use Craft Foam/change material setting to 2x. There..you are all set to go!! (for now the image can be 2.45" wide due to the white plastic gripper rings - height is not affected - enough space for many creative raised paper embossing tags, border, embellishments) Have FUN
I'm sure somebody has pointed this out to you by this time, but you can move those little white guides out of the way, so they don't impress on the material (like foam and copper!). Great video! I just got a cricut and I'm amazed by all it can do!
Something new - I am learning a lot this week and have found a few things on you tube to try out. I have a wedding present in mind with this, I'm very excited about it. Am working on my third album (envelope mini album), this one is with graphic 49 French Provincial - think roosters and sunflowers, will send you pics when finished - probably a while in the future am taking it slowly. My Great Granddaughter also made one which turned out well. Don't know what will go in it yet, her gran has suggested it be a journal/scrapbook for her first year in college - she starts this fall. Thankyou for all these marvellous videos, it makes me want to creat creat creat. lol
I really enjoyed watching this Video and the projects are so beautiful. I have watched hundreds of You Tube Videos of the Cricut Explore but I have to honestly say, that you spoke clearly, and your instructions were very easy to follow. I just started working with my Explore a week ago, so I am a Newbie to the Explore but not Cricut. I have owned every Cricut Machine but for some reason have been intimidated to work with my Explore. After watching this Video, I am excited to recreate your projects. Thank you and I can't wait to watch your other Videos and share your Link with my friends.
I absolutely love listening to your tutorials. They're understandable and your accent is adorable. Your projects look so fun, I'm still working on splitting initials, but I'll get there. Keep the videos coming.
This is really nice. Great way to make a "Fathers Day" gift. Still crafting but not w/ flowers. Thanks for giving me this as an idea to work on for gift for hubby & son. Appreciate this video alot! Crafty hugs, Paula xx
I just got my cricut in December, and I want you to know that I have really learned a lot from your videos! They are very informative and to the point! I really appreciate that! Keep up the good work! I have a lot to learn!
I LOVE THIS! I love copper! You explain things well. Beautiful! I need to binge watch more of your videos. Thanks for sharing your talent and knowledge!
Bought 3 rolls of the copper and 1 of the brass but my Maker will NOT do the embossing! Had several folks at Cricut trying to help, but no solutions. Clamp will not hold Embossing tool! So disappointed! Being the newest machine, I would have thought the Maker would be able to do the embossing! Hope you have better luck than I did! mjc, Indiana
I just love that you've done another Cricut Explore project...love all your videos but missed having new ideas from you using my Explore! And I'm in total love with this idea, & thx for the shopping link! Linda G.
Miss Maymay... I know you said you tried to use some foam to make the scoring a little bit deeper but it ended up being too much and causing the running wheels to mark up the copper... So I took your idea and changed it a little bit. I ended up using 2 and 3 circuit mats instead of foam. It turned out great! 3 mats was a really nice deep score without being too thick.
you have a wonderful personality. My dad did these and they are hugely popular now he is gone. He did Lord Suppers and all sorts of neat art that is beautiful people in family beg me for. I want to learn to do it as daddy loved it working on one hours and days that turned into weeks. Especially his larger pieces.
Thanks for this video! It gave me a great idea for a wedding gift for my daughter! Wish I could show you how nice it turned out! I did mine with little different method and it turned out great!
I was thinking the same thing about an awesome newlywed gift. I don't think my cameo will do this but they're reinventing the wheel this fall with an embosser and custom stamp creator. Definitely on my must-have list.
I love your projects and they would make awesome gifts! You make it look so easy playing with the cricut. I am definitely going to have to just buckle down and force myself to try it again lol. I am not so tech savvy and I do not think my cricut likes me but I will have to give it another try. I also wanted to take moment and let you know I sent you a private message though TH-cam. Thank you so much for sharing. Crafty hugs xx
Amy Taylor You really do need to give it a couple of tries to get comfortable. My best advice is one step at a time, don't get bogged down thinking of the whole project, just one part at a time.
I'm in love with all 3 pieces Amy, absolutely gorgeous - I can imagine a tree with copper accents!! Or autumn leaves hung like a wind chime!! Stunning chum!!
Hi! Great tutorial! I've been brooding on an ambitious project on tin tiles backsplash for my bedroom wall and I've been looking for a great tutorial on it and because i'm really prude I'm exploring on some options for some cheap medium like aluminum foil! Wish me luck. LOL
Great tutorial. As a newbie I can follow your instruction easily. :-) LOL, just notice my log in name....obviously a grandson has been on my computer. Now, off to save your video under the correct log in!!
May May....this is AWESOME!! You gave me a FABULOUS idea on a gifft I can and am going to do for 2 of my brothers. You tuts are ALWAYS on point. Thank you so much for sharing and especially the inspiration!! Hugz:) Taylor
If you use mirror image, will the project look raised like something embossed? The image would then be on the back side and raised?? I'll try and see, or look to see if you've made a video, yours are so easy to understand.
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing. I have a suggestion for you, instead of using the black paint, you should look into getting Liver Of Sulfur. It's not expensive and turns copper black depending on strength of the solution you mix. It's a tough finish that does not rub off easily. Also known as a forced patina. It can be used on any copper or brass for patinas.
love love love your channel and subscribed now.... TY for sharing your knowledge, I just bought me a cricut maker and was searching you-tube for ideas of different things it does... and came across your site.. so glad i did... Im a metalsmith and was looking for ways to make tags got my pre-made jewelry boxes..I also love using copper in jewelry and so many other things....look forward to growing and learning with your channel.. oXoXo
This is great video. Thanks for you ideas. I did have one comment. You mentioned you could not use any foam under the copper because the white guides left marks on the foil. Just slide the white guides to either side out of the way and try the thin foam. I think the challenge would be to hold the foil on the foam. But play with it and have fun. your friend Steve.
Steve Bandis I used adhesive on the foam so the copper stayed on the foam no problem. But it moves around too much in the machine without the guides, for me anyway. I feel like this embossed deep enough for me, thanks for the tip!
Hi MayMay, What pressure did you use to cut the copper sheeting? Also did you use the deep cutting blade & housing? Thank you for all of your videos, I have learned a lot :) - Jessica
Your project ideas were so inspiring! You were easy to listen to and very clear. Thank you so much! I have one question. Is there a backing on the snowman? The copper is so thin and the snowman looked nice and solid. If so, did you cut the backing on the circuit also? TIA.
Ooo... pretty. Question: I have a regular. Old expression, will the embosser work in place of the regular blade? I don't have a computer right now, so I can't use design space. But I still use my gypsy to design in. So what do you think? Don't want to buy it if it won't work. Thanks for all you do for us, who love you! Hugs, Jess
Hi, Do you know it this .003 copper would emboss well using an embossing stamp tool? The kind you squeeze like the ones a notary public uses to emboss on a paper document. Thanks.
This really inspired me and I went out to Hobby Lobby and bought the same copper you have. Can you tell me what material setting you used on your cricut. I can't seem to get a very deep emboss. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you so much! I am way too intimidated by this machine, but the more videos I watch, the braver I become. Starting with smaller projects and working up. I was wondering though...what other types of metal will work? Do you know the thickest gauge you can use? I wanted to do initials on an emblem to attached to the barrel of a rifle for my granddaughter, but fear it would better to engrave it. What do you think? Again thank you so much. I love your videos...not so wrapped up in details not relating to the project. One guy showed a general tour of his outdoor landscaping and house in the video...how that was helpful to the project at hand I've not yet figured out. I think he may have been showing off a bit. Either way...I love the directness and down to earth way you relate to people. Great job!
+Blu S. I am not sure what other metals will work or the guage, I have seen an attachment for metal engraving somewhere. Maybe do a quick google search for engraving attachment for the cricut explore. I am sure I saw one, thanks!
Chomas Creations sells the attachment for engraving they are $25.00 plus shipping..(there are some tutorials for using ur cricut to engrave).. Thanks for taking the time out to share ur videos-I love that you are so down to earth & easy to follow...
I was so excited to try this after I watched your engraving videos. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Everything I engrave looks beautiful then when it cuts it doesn't cut right. In other words it cuts off center. Does that make sense? I tried to engrave the snowman like you made.
I don't know why it would do that unless you need to attache the image to what you are engraving. You have to tell the software to keep your writing on the image by using the attach button.
Thank you MayMay, your tutorials are so clear and helpful!! I got all the stuff to do this project, but my embossing does not look as deep or thick as yours. How do you set the embossing setting?
Hello May May! I love my new projects using my Cricut machine! I do have a question. I made a 5x7 copper image, and followed your tutorial on placing your image within a shaded box, to make sure it fits, but my machine didn't cut automatically. I had to unload the mat, reload it, then it tried cutting around the image twice. The image wasn't quite centered, so I had to trim. I'm wondering if I missed something on your tutorial? And how do you know what size copper to cut? I realize it's wider and higher than your image, but how do you know the work mat on the screen will match the actual work mat fed into the machine? I'm afraid it will go off my copper and cut my mat! Yikes! Thanks for your tutorials!
did you use the regular cutting blade? also, when I try this it barely pushes down so I only get a faint outline - not really a deep embossing.....did I forget a setting (I used -> customer -> aluminum)
I am not getting a deep enough score on the metal with My Cricut Explore Air Gold . It barley touches it. Any ideas? Awesome video and taught me allot thanks!!!
Thank you Maymay, I just won a Cricut Maker and now I will love watching your Cricut videos as well as your card making ones! Beautiful crafting.
I am petitioning my husband to buy me this machine and the more things I find to do with it, the more practical the purchase seems to be! As an elementary music teacher, I would LOVE to make the last piece as gifts for the other music teachers in my district! Thank you for sharing!!

I love this video. My sister and I look for new ways to make ornaments. This is a great one. The snowman is adorable.
Judy Jensen I think I may have one whole tree of copper this year!
Something new - I am learning a lot this week and have found a few things on you tube to try out. I have a wedding present in mind with this, I'm very excited about it.

Paula Fowler That is a great idea. You could do a "worlds best dad" plaque that would be so cool.
Thanks for sharing your talent and knowledge!
your video was soothing. and very informative. ive been watching videos so that i can convince myself to get the machine.
OMG! I love this idea. I am a huge steampunk fan and just got a Cricut Maker. I can't wait to do this, thank you so much.
Bought 3 rolls of the copper and 1 of the brass but my Maker will NOT do the embossing! Had several folks at Cricut trying to help, but no solutions. Clamp will not hold Embossing tool! Boy can I use this technique for so many things...thanks so much Maymay, you are amazing! Love, love your work and great idea's!
Crafty Grandma Thanks so much!
Just purchased the Cricut Gold from HSN. I thank you for your examples, gives me a lot of ideas.
I just love that you've done another Cricut Explore project...love all your videos but missed having new ideas from you using my Explore! And I'm in total love with this idea, & thx for the shopping link! Linda G.
calibreeze101 Thanks Linda, I try to do one Explore video a week but have gotten behind a bit lately. I will try harder! I love using it.
So beautiful! Copper has always been my favourite metal & I love that it's back. Fantastic project, thank you for sharing this.
Chris B. I am really starting to want copper everywhere. I am really considering a kitchen redo with all copper accents. Thanks!
3 mats was a really nice deep score without being too thick.
tcf1986 I am new to the critcut. Regarding about the mats you should stack the mats together? What setting did you used?
You stack the mats together?
Dionel Esteves
I just took two cricut cutting mats and did it that way
you have a wonderful personality. My dad did these and they are hugely popular now he is gone. He did Lord Suppers and all sorts of neat art that is beautiful people in family beg me for. +Born2RiffRock Thanks so much!
Thanks for this video! It gave me a great idea for a wedding gift for my daughter! Wish I could show you how nice it turned out! I did mine with little different method and it turned out great!
Maybe you could share it with us at our Facebook group. Maymay Made It and So Did I we love to see all the projects everyone makes!
May May I even enjoyed watching it again today...great job...and very well explained...pat
I was thinking the same thing about an awesome newlywed gift. I don't think my cameo will do this but they're reinventing the wheel this fall with an embosser and custom stamp creator. Definitely on my must-have list.
Mimi's Mixed Bag I saw that was coming. I really do think this would be a neat gift that no one will get two of at a shower!
Copper is beautiful. Thanks for sharing this project. Blessings...Bobbie
These are awesome, Amy. I can see using this to make award plaques or even name plates for the kid's bedroom doors! Thanks for showing how. God bless.
Love, love, love this!! One day I will own a Cricut!Thank you so much!
Hello, I am often called May May so it's neat to see another "may" who is nutty for CC too!
I love your projects and they would make awesome gifts! You make it look so easy playing with the cricut. I am definitely going to have to just buckle down and force myself to try it again lol. Amy Taylor You really do need to give it a couple of tries to get comfortable. My best advice is one step at a time, don't get bogged down thinking of the whole project, just one part at a time.
thank you so much I am new to Cricut Explore Air. Just Cricut in general, I have so many questions this helps a lot!
Thanks for this! I'm still pretty new to the Cricut Explore and love finding out new things I can do with it. :)
This is SO cool! Thank you so much for sharing all your wonderful ideas!! I love your channel!
Thank you for an excellent tutorial! Very cool project! I also love all the fantastic things the Explore can do!
im so excited. i just ordered my cricut. Cant wait till it arrives
You are so easy to listen to....nice video, great work!!!!!
I'm in love with all 3 pieces Amy, absolutely gorgeous - I can imagine a tree with copper accents!! Or autumn leaves hung like a wind chime!! Stunning chum!!
G's_Creations I am already thinking of autumn copper decor!
Buttermilk will patina the copper to a perfect weathered green. Helpful tip for this project
Very cool Amy! I've never worked with cooper before, but I'm thinking I want to!
Love to watch your videos ! You have a great way of explaining your projects. Thanks for sharing!
+Lisa Kidd Thank you!
Amazing......brilliant idea! I'm shocked that the machine cut it too! Soooo dang cool! Hugs! Becca
Rebecca Shinas-rehberg It cuts amazingly well, and that is not a special blade either.
Thank you for this video. Your voice and explanations are the best!!
Hi! Great tutorial! I've been brooding on an ambitious project on tin tiles backsplash for my bedroom wall and I've been looking for a great tutorial on it and because i'm really prude I'm exploring on some options for some cheap medium like aluminum foil! Wish me luck. LOL
Such a great video so informative.
Do you also have a video for the snow man?
Great tutorial. As a newbie I can follow your instruction easily. :-)
LOL, just notice my log in name....obviously a grandson has been on my computer. Now, off to save your video under the correct log in!!
May May....this is AWESOME!! You gave me a FABULOUS idea on a gifft I can and am going to do for 2 of my brothers. You tuts are ALWAYS on point. Thank you so much for sharing and especially the inspiration!! Hugz:) Taylor
may may thanks for tutorial. I noticed that you used 40 gauge aluminum sheet. i was wondering if the cricut cut the 36 gauge?
Oh wow that such a great way for something new. The snowman is to cute
I'm so excited to try this. I'm getting my cricut explore air delivered tomorrow :)
LOVE this idea -- thanks for sharing!! Beautiful pieces!!
Bought your membership! How do I download the Cricut booklet!! Is their a emblem to put on my phone?
What material setting are you using for the copper? You went from design to cutter but didn't say what you set your cricut to for material.
Thank you for all the information! This answered a lot of questions I had about my cricut.
If you use mirror image, will the project look raised like something embossed? The image would then be on the back side and raised?? I'll try and see, or look to see if you've made a video, yours are so easy to understand.
+Barbara Gibson you can mirror it or just flip the finished project unless your product is different on the back side.
That's awesome, Could you please let me know which model you use for this project, thanks
Awesome! I do not have a Cricut but about to be persuaded to purchase one LOLL Love all of them.
lynnwilcoxson7 This project alone would make me want one. I have so many ideas now for using the metals and I can't stop thinking of it!
Great video Maymay! Very instructive.
Really cool, I just got my explore air 2 look forward to trying this project, Thank you.
I may have missed it, but for the snowman ornament, what did you do to make the edges not sharp?
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing. I have a suggestion for you, instead of using the black paint, you should look into getting Liver Of Sulfur. It's not expensive and turns copper black depending on strength of the solution you mix. It's a tough finish that does not rub off easily. Also known as a forced patina. It can be used on any copper or brass for patinas.
love love love your channel and subscribed now.... TY for sharing your knowledge, I just bought me a cricut maker and was searching you-tube for ideas of different things it does... and came across your site.. so glad i did... Im a metalsmith and was looking for ways to make tags got my pre-made jewelry boxes..I also love using copper in jewelry and so many other things....look forward to growing and learning with your channel.. oXoXo
Hi did you try this with your circut maker and did it work? I just bought a cricut maker. TY
I loved your video... I leaned something new today. Your tutorial is very precise and you have such a calming voice..How do you emboss the snowman?
Thank you I really enjoyed this project. I have so many idea's.
Your project ideas were so inspiring! You were easy to listen to and very clear. Thank you so much! I have one question. Is there a backing on the snowman? The copper is so thin and the snowman looked nice and solid. If so, did you cut the backing on the circuit also? TIA.
Found you when looking for something else........not my thing but I really enjoyed the tutorial so have subscribed
Just wow! Will the Expession 2 do this as well!
You think with a few more passes that it would be able to cut through? I wanna make a copper gasket for my bike.
Great tutorial and a very cute project. I love your accent! 😊
If you fill the back with melted wax before you mount it and it will be much more durable. Thanks for the vid.
Very clever!
What a delightful, interesting and informative video! I really enjoyed this and will be headed to Hobby Lobby in the morning!! lol
Thank you so much I love your projects with copper! hope to see you doing more soon.
Ooo...
Thanks.
love this idea for the ornaments. What would you suggest for the back to give it more stability?
Absolutely Beautiful! Great video! Thanks so much for posting!
This really inspired me and I went out to Hobby Lobby and bought the same copper you have. Can you tell me what material setting you used on your cricut. I can't seem to get a very deep emboss. Thanks for all you do.
Sheri Lewis I used the aluminum setting. It is in custom settings. Hope that helps!
You give great Cricut videos!!
WOW, mind mind is reeling with the possibilities. Thank-you so much for this video.
Karen Robertson I agree, I am feeling a lot of copper home decor items, especially at Christmas and Fall...
Wirer did you get the little roller you are using to flatten the copper?
Blu S. I
love it.... I am on my way to purchase this machine now... thank you!
Absolutely brilliant xx Thank you for sharing xx
Pretty projects. Thanks for sharing. Sandra xx
You have the best accent! thanks for this video!
Wow it’s beautiful thank you for sharing!
You could use natural yoghurt to age the copper if it is for outside.
Awesome ....what thickness copper is it use used xx
Do you think that the new scoring wheel the Cricut just released will do this technique?
@maymay can you use Cricut’s foils for these types of projects? Original foil you used is no longer available.
You do a great job - great teacher
These are so pretty! Thanks for sharing! Couple of questions...Did you use a deep cut blade? Also, what setting did you use to cut it?!
Ashley McCracken good questions, nope, used my regular blade and I cut it on the custom setting for aluminum. Thanks for asking, I forgot to say!
Thank you MayMay, your tutorials are so clear and helpful!! I got all the stuff to do this project, but my embossing does not look as deep or thick as yours. How do you set the embossing setting?
What setting did you set it on? I tried several times, and it just wasn't embossing deep enough nor would it cut.
I have been looking for that snowman.
Love your accent! Reminds me of home (GA)!
Thank you for the great video. I can't wait to try it. Where would I find a list of the supplies you used? Thank you
+Linda Wellock I got the copper at Hobby Lobby. Hope that helps, thanks!
Can u have machine for thicker gauges
Love, Love, Love this project. I am new to cricut. May I ask how you added the swirls to the snowman? Thanks in advance.
+Ilene Lewit they were already on the image I chose. Thanks!
I am not getting a deep enough score on the metal with My Cricut Explore Air Gold . It barley touches it. Any ideas? Awesome video and taught me allot thanks!!!
did you use the Chromos adapter, its sold on amazon. I did read one place that the cricet won't do a deep embossing. maybe more passes thru?
Great Job
love it and thanks for sharing how you
so it... thanks z lot
+Pat Posk Thank you!
