I recognize that tractor! You got it from my uncle who had literally sheds full of those old internationals probably over 100 of them and sold all but a 956, 2 1066 and a 1088, only a a handful of hydros though and most of the were 756s that sold faster than you can say rare, that was the only bigger hydro they were selling so lucky find!
It is perfect for that kind of work so nice on end rows and when the field switches from smooth to rough and back I would like a 100 as well but I guess I’d like about any old tractor
Nothing wrong with old equipment and your new tractor looks like a good buy, and hydro 1066 i have never heard of before be very interesting to see her working as you go on
Yeah everything we have heard you will blow the pump if you use them for heavy tillage but we have the gear drives for that this will be loader work and mowing hay and so far it is great on the disk mower and loading round bales saves a lot of time
That's going to make a nice addition to your farm. Those IH quick attach loaders are nice and easy to take off and put back on. I can take mine off in 30 seconds and put it back on in 3 minutes. But they are a little built. They don't take a lot of digging in the dirt. They have a tendency to break at the crossmenber behind the bucket. . I have seen a lot of them welded back together. Enjoy your tractor and thanks for sharing.
Good to know on the loader primarily it will be moving hay but might have to reinforce it a little because I’m sure we will want to fix some lanes with it
My father purchased brand new in 1973 an 1066 Hydro 4wd with cab. Didn’t see much of those also. It was replaced by a 4166 few years later. We’re in Ontario Canada.
Your new International Farmall 1066 looks like a good buy. Interesting that the ‘73 is somewhat rare. Other than that battery strap, not a big deal, all seems to be working. Definitely runs strong, sure you will enjoy it.
Hydros are great on any kind of PTO work - you will love it as you match the ground speed to conditions. Only use HyTran as they of all applications require the additives found in it. Enjoy your new toy!
Thanks for the info it is great for mowing took it out yesterday and like you said matching the speed of the conditions is great definitely a time saver and easier on equipment your pulling
We had a hydro like that at work. Not sure on the number, it had a cab, everyone else hated using it but I could load alot of corn with it and the track master in it
Wouldn’t slapping it into neutral take longer because then you have to step on the clutch and put it back onto low or high maybe something is out of adjustment on ours
The bigger framed hydros 826, 1026, 966, 1066, 186, 3488 had a different style hydro and it made them last forever compared to the small frame 544, 656, 70, 84, 86. I had a couple friends that had hydro, out lasting motor
Grew up with hydros, try not to jerk hydro handle unless you go all the way back to neutral; we put the aftermarket higher flow rate hydraulic pump in all of them to speed up loader functions; fav is 1026
Lol yeah now that I looked at the 856 it also has one that doesn’t work never even knew the 10 and 14 should have one but they definitely aren’t know for the dash workings
You have any kin in Cissna Park? Our family lived around that are and farmed. Your last name was familiar. Nice tractor. Can't find a good decent priced tractor here around us in Tennessee.
I don’t believe we have and kin around there I’ll ask some of the family for sure but yeah we payed up a little for this but also that’s why we had it shipped in right in our area they are big bucks
@@knappfarms you're smaller frame tractors which include the 544, 656 hydro 70, 84, 86 are known for weak hydros the hydro shop (Kerr's ?) hour away in Washington told me that.
@@knappfarms I wander if it's the one I think it is? There used to be one in my area. I worked for the guy who bought brand new then it resided in Coatesville Indiana at the grain elevator for many years
I think we are gonna get the brackets and put the 2 long skinny battery’s in it like it had from the factory but get them in 12V so it will start better in the winter rather then crossing the 6v to make 12
I don't think it's that rare! Everybody around hear has or had one of them! My neighbor got one right across the river from me what 12,000 hours on it. He bought it new. My dad had one with 10,000 on it in 85 when he sold it.
Well you may have had a lot in your area but most areas don’t have the hydros I’ve had a lot of people on here say they have never even seen a 1066 in hydro and they only made 2900 in all so can’t be that many left around
Nice 👍
Love the 1066 hydro.
Cool new/classic machine! 70’s tractors looked awesome! Great lines and paint schemes.
I remember going 170 miles to go get our 1066 hydro. I was 13. Best tractor I ever knew.
Congratulations on the 1066 . You will like it alot .

I just seen this comment that’s really cool it’s a shame they all had to sell I would love to have 100 old IH tractors in the shed
Well done on the new hydro, perfect loader and hay machine. Dad had a 574 hydro back in the 70s, should have kept it but it got traded.
My favorite tractor for small bales enjoy it
It’s great mowed hay yesterday and it’s so nice to speed up and slow down without the change in RPMs like our other tractors
I had a 100 used on round baler silage chopper heybine loved it 14000 plus hrs when it gave out
It is perfect for that kind of work so nice on end rows and when the field switches from smooth to rough and back I would like a 100 as well but I guess I’d like about any old tractor

So far it’s great mowed hay yesterday and filled in a few holes on the farm lane it is so much faster then shifting gears
Nice find!
Nice find! I have a friend that had a hydro. He said it was a good loader tractor but not good for heavy pulling.

I’ve never seen one down here in Indiana set up like that but man would I love to have one.

Hydro is perfect loader tractor. Slap her into neutral rather than pulling lever slowly back . For moving and loading bales cant be beat.😁👍
Wouldn’t slapping it into neutral take longer because then you have to step on the clutch and put it back onto low or high maybe something is out of adjustment on ours
@@knappfarms no I mean on left lever not range transmission if you try to move lever slow its like jamming on the brakes
Alright I guess I haven’t tried it fast will do next time

There was a 1066 Hydro on our farm before we bought it. They swapped the 2350 loader between several tractors from a 666 to a 1466
Great find.but got to get a suicide nob on the steering wheel. It be more comfortable to operate the loader.good luck with it.
Nice tractor! that should have the same motor as your 1086. Btw your 1086 and 1486 also have a light in the dash for the clutch. I have 3 and 1 works.
Lol yeah now that I looked at the 856 it also has one that doesn’t work never even knew the 10 and 14 should have one but they definitely aren’t know for the dash workings
🥵 slow down with all this WORK...

Wish I could find a old tractor like that with a hydro transmission. Wanting something that is easy for everyone to use if they want to help.
It is definitely nice they aren’t cheap but I’d love to find a smaller one as well something in the 70-90 HP category
@@knappfarms you're smaller frame tractors which include the 544, 656 hydro 70, 84, 86 are known for weak hydros the hydro shop (Kerr's ?) hour away in Washington told me that.
i see there is no coolant filter. may want to check into one. sleeves will last longer with it.
Have to look into it I assume it would be like the ones that come from the factory on the 86 series IH
@@knappfarms yes. Ih usually installed them on the 66 series when the sleeves failed.
👍🏻
At is not a clutch it's a some sort of valve. And I had friend with a 70 hydro and the red light went out and took out the hydro big expensive repair
Where did you find this.
Auction in central Indiana I believe

That’s a beaut. That should increase productivity and profits, so you can spend it on another Gleaner. 😃
