  • Photographing Tankwa Karoo National Park South Africa
    I'm in Tankwa Karoo National Park photographing South African landscapes and wildlife. I share photography tips using a polariser and digital filter. Visit elandsberg cottages. Photograph the Gannaga pass and the Roggeveld mountains.
    The mountain passes and 4x4 tracks are fantastic as is the scenery and the photographic opportunities. It's one of the best places for Karoo landscape photography and a must see destination when visiting the karoo.
    This is the third video in the series. Join me and Basil exploring the landscape photography in this iconic region of South Africa. We drive the Gannaga pass, visit the Elandsberg and Roggeveld.

    My name is Will Goodlet. I am a wildlife, landscape and astro photographer working in the African Safari business. I spend my time exploring the dusty roads of Africa with my Land Rover, Basil.
    I've been taking photographs for 40 years, first in Hong Kong, where I grew up and later to follow my dreams of a life photographing Africa.

    Excellent narration, photography top class, of course. Britain did send some gentlemen our way, and it shows. Thanks for making us proud to be South African. If all were as sophisticated as you are, the world may have been a better place. Love that Landy as well.

    OMG Will it looks like where I live in the Flinders Ranges, so similar. We are on the edge of the fabled Outback and its pretty harsh country. Thank you for sharing this part of your world. And yes our Defenders were well suited to that terrain and when I was a tour driver they always got us home. Loved your tip on the polariser and black and white shots, will try that, I have lots of images that are the same with the lonely windmill and rugged arid ranges behind.

    Another splendid episode Will .. you so right about exploring the region’s finding your own images taken by nobody else . It’s still much a virgin area and one could spend weeks there exploring and gaining much knowledge of its vastness and the beauty of the Karoo . It’s Barron yes .. it’s ugly to most people.. but one your mind and see the beauty it offers . I love this type of landscape . Thanks for sharing your adventures Will !

      Thanks again Ross, there's no sky bluer than over the Karoo and no stars brighter. It always reminds me of Africa's long and challenging history and that we can still find new views and wonders even in the 21st century.

      Hey Christine, thanks so much for taking a look and the share! Photography changed my life, the things I've seen and experienced have been amazing. Places I would never have known about and times and events I never would have witnessed without a camera pulling me onwards :) It's taught me how to look at the world and see it - to paraphrase Dorothea Lange :)

    Why did you touch your head , when saying: "touch wood" :D ? Funny:) It was so good to watch your another trip to the place you had never been before. I enjoy it very much. And it is so good to see you and your family in a better emotional shape after such a horrible experience. Best of luck to you all.

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Margaret, touching wood is a thing to ward off bad luck, do you have that saying in Canada/Poland? So when you can't find any wood, you can touch your head because we have another saying - 'wooden headed' for someone who is stubborn to the point of stupidity. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. The next in the series was supposed to go out today but I'm having some tech trouble. Hopefully will publish it soon. Take care!

    Really enjoyed that, thank you. I live just outside Williston in the Nama Karoo and the option of going black and white using a poloriser is something I'm definitely going to try👍

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rodney, great to hear that you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching! Yeah, polarisers are really useful for this kind of thing and many of the landscapes out there really suit B&W. Williston must be a great place to be, would like to venture out there again one day.

      We make our own South African style pancakes because here they are "crepes" and although some restaurants serve them either with savory or sweet fillings, nothing beats good ol' cinnamon and sugar! American pancakes are what we would call "flapjacks" in SA. I hear flapjacks in the UK are actually oat bars! Crazy world haha!

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep flapjacks - oat crunchies (like my mother made) are my favourite thing ever but we never wrote the recipe down when she was alive. So many delicious things lost!!! I like American pancakes - I grew up in Hong Kong where the Filipinos made American pancakes :)

    • @LieslHuddleston
      @LieslHuddleston 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will, see if you can find a copy of the book "Kook en Geniet" by S.J.A. DeVilliers, or the English version "Cook and Enjoy It." My Mom bought me the english version before I left SA and it has the Oat Crunchies recipe amongst many other childhood favorites like my Mom and Ouma's used to make. The secret ingredient which I'm thankful they sell at a South African food shop here is "Golden syrup" - the typical syrup's here would never work, but the consistency and flavor of the Golden syrup is perfect for the recipe. You can probably google a recipe too, as long as it's South African with that particular brand of syrup, and be sure to use desiccated coconut and not shredded coconut.

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LieslHuddleston this went to spam for some reason! Sorry. Yes Mum used golden syrup and butter I think. But hers were quite chewy, not like the crunchies here. She was a phenomenal cook with hundreds of books and recipes but I can't find this one, probably too simple to bother writing down! I will look out for the book, thanks!!
