      I'd love a Star Trek that was just a political thriller/drama. Just Federation diplomats and senators talking... They try desperately to cling to intergalactic stability as their squeaky-clean public images are dragged through the mud.

    I love your new-ish neon aesthetic. In a video essay, it's more than a cheeky sign post of key points and transitions. Instantaneously recognizable and memorable, you've brought neon's original use back into focus. How wonderful that a medium shift, (dragging along all the trappings, such as sound effects,) revived the initial purpose of neon.
    Your essays are great, diving into Trek lore is great, your workmanship is great, but thanks especially for this odd little tidbit to chew on. It has me wondering: what other passe pop culture tools can find renewed life online? The video essay is the perfect testing ground.

      If something is worth doing at all, it is worth doing correctly.
      The chances of species from hundreds of different galaxies and planets all being able to use the exact same gravity and the exact same breathing atmosphere are a trillion to one. Every species uses speech to communicate, eyes to see with? Everyone has two eyes, two arms, two ears, two legs. Yeah, that's highly likely. Rather than use CGI to create logically credible aliens, let's treat the audience as if they were retarded children, and make every alien into a humanoid. Just slap on some cheap rubber bullshit mask and a dollar store halloween costume, no one will notice! After all, we are stupid, lazy, greedy and disrespectful. The only important rule in Hollywood is GET PAID--- so we can snort more co>caine while fuck>ing little boys up the as>shole. Why create SF that reflects LOGIC? It is all about the MONEY, so we can take more dr>ugs, and ra?pe more little boys.

      ,
      Genuinely good SF takes an unusual premise, then extrapolates LOCICALLY, in a linear fashion, to tell a story that answers "what if" in a manner that does not insult the intelligence of the audience.

And then of course the Khitomer accords and peace between the Klingon Empire and UFP resembles the political climate following the end of the Cold War.

    One thing that always got me despite the fall of the Romulan Star Empire, on Star Trek Online or STO for short. During the Legacy of Romulus expansion. After the sacrifice of a Romulan Republic commander shielding himself and a bomb on Khitomer during peace talks to thwart sabotage by the Star Empire/ Tal Shiar. It was in this act that actually make the Klingons become the first faction to recognize the Romulan Republic of De'wa III, and offer to be an ally to them.

    this was very informative and needs at least 120,000,000 views from fans (personal opinion)...might have already been brought to your attention but the closed caption text at 2:27 (as of this writing) says Suliban football and NFL terrorist organization ...i'm guessing this is the result of an automatic word to text algorithm that's not exactly up to Universal Translator Standards...there are other somewhat odd translations sprinkled throughout the segment such as the Breen being called the Green and a pivotal romulan/klingon conflict that shaped further relations is transformed into "clock ticking"... and look for the corvette negotiation at 8:27 (which is kinda awesome)...and the mispronounciation of praetor into romulan free tours...(also very awesome) not actually that distracting whilst watching but still a lot of fun to read none the less

    I wonder if Enterprise is actually a completely new continuity created by the Temporal Cold War, which was never really thought out by the writers. Because so much stuff may have been altered by time travel, especially with the whole Sphere Builder stuff, the history in TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY might be very different. Even if they somehow repaired most of the damage, there would have been pretty big changes.

    • @Lokiawa

      KingOfMadCows
      The "old" Trek fans think the Archer era is a divergent from the "main timeline", some think it did happen in main timeline but the Romulans did something to have the Federation go retro (reference: some book series where someone TRIED to explain the technological difference from 'ST: Ent' to 'TOS' their "explanation" sounds good and all but I find it very unlikely that a electronic virus or EMP could cause a society to use retro technology), I think it's canon but I'm open minded to it being a divergent timeline.

    • @KingOfMadCows
      @KingOfMadCows 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think it's silly to try to explain the technology difference since it's due to real life circumstances. Same thing with the Klingon foreheads. We know why they didn't have ridges in TOS, because they didn't have the budget.
      It's the difference in story and lore that's a problem. Like how no Xindi ever show up in the other Treks or how no one ever mentioned Florida being carved up by a giant doomsday laser or how they mentioned several times in other Treks that first contact with the Klingons was disastrous and led to a war.

    • @jerobriggs6861
      @jerobriggs6861 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This actually may explain why the Romulans have cloaking technology in the 22nd century and Riker's decision to tell Captain Picard about the Pegasus' cloaking device; in TNG Riker made the decision to tell Picard on the bridge while in Enterprise he was in the holodeck when he made the decision.

    • @Perplexum
      @Perplexum 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Like we never saw a Gorn again after TOS? Or the Fesarius, or Orion slave girls? Where were all the Tellarites in TNG? Why was the Organian treaty never mentioned again? If you want to search for problems in the lore, you should begin after the original series.

    Great video, and thank for putting it together. I didn't know about the Hur'Q before. But their history with the Klingons was prior to Klingons obtaining (or developing?) warp technology. But, I may be overlooking an explanation for how Klingons acquired warp technology.
    I recall someone's (I beleive it was ambassador Sarek) vague reference to how a fist contact experience with the Klingons had "tragic consequences". After hearing your part one reference to the Hur'Q, that could've been the "tragic consequences" being referred to, but I don't know. When I first heard the reference by "Sarek" I began to assume he was referring to a Vulcan first contact experience with the Klingons which had tragic consequences... and this was somehow related to the Klingons acquiring warp technology? However, I haven't heard a direct explanation of how Klingons acquired warp tech.

    That big jump at 4 and a half minutes. That's what's being filled in now. I'm going to look for a supplement to this series. I hope you're working on one. It even looks like the show is explaining how there can be the new looking Klingons and the more familiar ones.
