Beautiful blanket, you can't think about the cost it's about knowing that you made that, it's your art and it belongs only to you. I've been there I've thought about the cost of something etc. and what I could have bought it for at a big box store but there is nothing like a homemade craft. I've been crocheting for 40 years and stopped for 7 years and I just picked it back up about 2 years ago and I was surprised on how much yarn cost, years ago it was a way to make things on a budget but not anymore but it is nice seeing your generation picking up the craft and the yarns you have available today is amazing we pretty much had budget yarn. Btw, we all get burned out a time a two (or 7 years), sometimes picking up a smaller project for a while helps especially on the big blanket projects that takes a while to make that's where I struggle keeping focused on the same stitch over and over.
Aw thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful reminder! My grandma would always tell me that when I just started crocheting- that the price of yarn has increased so much! But you are absolutely right :) nothing beats the creativity and joy that comes with creating something one of a kind! Crocheting for 40 years is incredible by the way
I've made 10 blankets...it becomes addictive! Your blanket is stunning 😍I absolutely loved watching you make this...its so much work! But worth it in the end when you have an amazing finished product
oh my goodness!!! 10 is amazing!! I hope to have a collection as big as you one day :,) thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed and I totally agree that all of the work pays off once you finish it!!
I'm crocheting a blanket while watching this. Watching videos of other people crocheting blankets while working on crocheting your own blanket is perfect. For me it gives this feeling of "I'm not the only crazy one!" because I always feel crazy for doing this to myself every single time I'm working on yet another blanket. But it is addictive.
it is so so addictive!! I don't even want/need another blanket but it was SO rewarding to finish😅 and I LOVE that we can crochet together through a screen :,,)
Nice Blanket! The colors are so soothing and the white border just ties it all together. You have inspired me to make another granny square blanket. It's so pretty and I can't wait to start it!!!!
I love your blanket! I haven’t bought that pattern yet, but plan to start it after Christmas. Don’t worry about your white/ivory colors not matching. No one will even notice; they will just notice how gorgeous it is! I am working on finishing my reading journal afghan now. I crochet a row for every book I’ve read based on the star rating. I will be so glad when it’s finished because I’ve literally been working on it since January! 😂
aw thank you! I think you are right too, nobody has noticed especially when it's folded you can't see a thing! I absolutely LOVE the concept of a book afghan! That is just so creative and I love how it combines your hobbies :) I hope you were able to finish and that it turned out as lovely as it sounds!
I'm working on a tank top (in the middle of winter 😆) while watching your videos. You've inspired me to finish the blanket I started years ago. I stopped working on it because it felt like an impossible task, but I think I'll pick it up again now! Thank you for the crochet inspiration! Your blanket is beautiful!
haha honestly so smart to work ahead on the seasons! When I make things, I feel like I finish once the season is over and then I can't wear it for another year! and this made me so happy to read! Blankets are such a HUGE project, I swear if i wasn't filming it I would've taken many more breaks HAHA Best of luck on both of your projects
the white yarns look slightly different when you hold both the skeins up together but you can't see the difference at all in the actual blanket, i love the finished product!!
Currently crocheting a little hammock to put all my yarn in so it's out of my way in the very limited space of the camper I live in. I can't have multiple project going and bounce back and forth between them, its just too much for my brain. But my next projects I plan on doing are Christmas gifts. A granny square bag for my aunt, dishcloths for my aunt and grandma, and a skate leash for my friend. Watching this video is making me want to make my own blanket. I have a crocheted blanket that my great great grandma made that we found in some of her belongings after she passed and it makes me feel good that I'm going something that my great great grandma, whom I honestly don't remember much of, used to do. And having both that inspiration of her doing the same thing and seeing you doing it, now I feel so motivated to make a blanket.
waiiitttt i've seen those hammocks and they're awesome!! such a smart use of space and i actually LOVE the look of them (even for stuffed animals too hehe) I totally get the bouncing back and forth between projects thing- i feel like i always end up forgetting certain ones, so the way you're doing it is probably smarter... the story about your great grandma is so touching :,) I just know that she would have so much love and appreciation for you carrying on the same hobbies that she once cherished. Crochet is something that I share with my grandma as well and I just love how it can connect different generations. Best of luck with the blanket and the lovely gifts you are working on
the colors you chose are so warm and soothing, it looks beautiful!! I do the thing with the shows too. I can't look at my very first crochet piece without thinking of demon slayer, anne with an e, and unsolved mysteries since I finished all of them while working on it :')
oh shoot... like each batch is slightly different?? I had no clue that happens! But I unfortunately think that in this case it was two different colors bc they had different names😅
u inspired me to start knitting (with ur knitting a sweater w/ little experience vid) and I just finished my sheep colorwork sweater which was my second project ever lol but seeing ur vid gave me the confidence to try!! knitting has become my new favorite hobby 😤
Hi Melanie, while watching this video i am crocheting a granny square poncho for my little cousin and i almost finishing it 😮💨 Thank u for sharing us ur journey AND it is a beautiful blanket 🤌🏻
aw I've never made a poncho before but this just reminds me, I had one in my childhood that I LOVED! Thanks so much for watching and I hope that your little cousin loves it
Some insight on yarn colors! So there's a thing called lot dying, where they dye a bunch of yarn one color all at once. Ideally you want to match the lot dye as well as the color, or it will look a little bit off. Honestly, I think it only looks off once you mention it and it's something only you will notice but welcome to the lot dye problem haha!
ah I JUST learned about this!! I can't believe I never knew!! Thank you for taking the time to share :,) definitely gonna start keeping better track of that haha
AH this makes me so happy :,,) i hope that it's turning out lovely!! (ps that happened to me too LOL I started one like a year ago that I just never ever got close to finishing HAHA so im glad i was able to finish this one and document it!)
your blanket came out so beautiful!! i want to crochet my stepmom a blanket for christmas, and i really like the size of yours so i may do something similar. while watching this i was working on my 6 day star blanket that will be for my mom for christmas🥰
My mum tells me to keep a hold of the yarn label with a small piece of the colour yarn in question attached to the label with sello-tape or a staple when I would need more of that yarn with the brand, weight, and how many grams in the ball of yarn that I have used for my crochet projects. I also learnt to keep a hold of scrap yarns to fill amigurumi projects as well. Well done for sharing your project with us fellow crocheters.
I have the worst habit of throwing away the packaging right away but I NEED to remember to do this because I know it will save my butt in the future 😅 thanks for the tips and for crocheting with me 🤭
Beautiful blanket. I'm currently crocheting an infinity granny square blanket using blue and green yarn. It's going to fit a queen bed for the pastor of the church I go to and his wife.
omg haha I had no clue what an infinity granny square blanket was, but I looked it up and they're GORGEOUS! That is so thoughtful of you and I am sure they will love it so much!
I’m working on my first pair of crochet shorts. They’re a practice pair to test my endurance, my gauge, and various other things but are super mindless and it’s nice doing a mindless project and seeing somebody push through theirs
your blanket turned out so amazing! i wish i had the attention span for bigger projects, but i barely have enough for sweaters 😅 i am currently working on a white stockinette sweater :)
thats so funny because I feel like sweaters are so much harder for me than blankets! or maybe I should say complex? Like even though the blanket took manyyy months it was super mindless, so it was pretty easy to pause and start whenever! I bet your sweater is going to be lovely :)
As I was watching this video, I was crocheting/sewing together my sister her umbrella academy pillow for her 12th birthday ( it was yesterday, and I didn't finish in time, lol). It's just a white pillow with the logo on the front. The pillow is 75x40 ( 75 chains and 40 single crochet rows )
I'm also crocheting a blanket! I'm doing Betty McKnit's 6 day star blanket and I'm almost done it's been so fun highly reccomend since you said you wanted to do more blankets!!!
wow, it turned out so pretty!! im currently making a sweater for my mom, this video was such a good company for me. and i also get sick from crocheting too, i get dizzy and i have to stop crocheting hahaahah
omg hahaha wait that made me feel better bc sometimes I feel so crazy for admitting it! and that is such a lovely gift :,) I hope that it turned out perfect for her!
Hiii, I'm julia from argentina, and I have 13 years old. While watching this I was crocheting a mesh top for the beach, because here it's almost summer!
Hi Julia! I can't believe you found my video all the way from argentina, that is just so cool to me :,) I'm jealous of your sunny weather rn! It has been a gloomy week in the bay... I hope your top turned out great and that you were able to wear it to the beach
I lout squares just once on the floor or dining table and take a photo with my phone when I’m happy with the lay out. And then sit on couch and refer to my photo for position of squares.
woohoo, congratulations!!!!! that turned out Amazing!!! if you make anotherone try the join as you go method so it wont be as daunting of a task to meet the finish line!!!! 🥰
ah thank you!! it feels so much better knowing that others don't notice it as much as i do! and absolutely haha! I'm telling myself if was a happy mistake from now on
@melanielocke thank you!! It’s my favorite way to make things because every time I wear it it reminds me of the memories I made on the trip and how excited I was for it☺️
sooo pretty! can you link the video you learned from for attaching the squares together? or maybe explain a bit how you did the white border and attached them🫣. It’s always the hardest part for me and I LOVE the look of yours!!! Would so so appreciate it
aw thank you luv!! for the border I just messed around until i liked the look! I ended up doing 3dc in a single stitch, skip 2 stitches, then 3dc. For the corners, it was 3dc, ch2, 3dc. And I just use a single crochet stitch to join my square! It's the first one explained in this video th-cam.com/video/QN-O_Q1Z5Us/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ddknVwi_AQNn63fr :) I hope this helps!!
im making so many different things right now: Christmas gifts for the fam, a patchwork cardigan that i really want to finish in time before christmas so that i can wear it... Maybe you should film a video making one i think it would be so fun!!!!
omg i love it!!! Christmas is SUCH a busy season for us crafters!! I think a patchwork sweater (not cardigan so maybe i need to do that too hehe...) was one of my very first crochet projects (+ I filmed it hehe)
i HAVE to have sound while im crocheting & im out of my usual shows & youtube docs. im making a sweater for my dog rn but this makes me want to make a blanket soon too😁
the temperature blankets are the coolest!! and i had to look up the spiral balaclava but it is so neat, I've never seen a spiral granny square before!! I hope that they both turn out great :D
aw thank you so much :)) and I didn't follow a pattern but I would do 3dc (in a single stitch), skipp two stitches, 3dc (in a single stitch)! for the corners I'd do 3dc, ch2, 3dc.
Hello Meleny I crochet benged this video i am also working on a crochet patch work blanket right now and it will be on my channal in parts i am about to post part one you have motivated me so much
Could you please share with us how you did the white border around the solid granny squares, ive started this project after watching your video butbi cant seem to figure out how to do the white part ! Thank youu
hi, just a tip for joining, theres tutorials on youtube for a granny stitch join-as-you-go, it looks the same as youre joins look but its quicker and easier
i believeeee i did 3dc in a st, skip 2, repeat. And then 3dc, ch2, 3dc in the same stitch for the corners! I explained it a bit better in a talk through tiktok tutorial I have up!
Not necessarily a happy project, but I'm trying to speed crochet a xl chunky granny square blanket for a terminally ill family member. Not one talks about the bittersweet aspect of the craft like this, and unfortunately sympathy projects are a lot more common than I think most crafters realise. Sorry to get so deep here 😅 Thanks for keeping me company though. The blanket is gorgeous! 😍
oh my goodness! I am so so sorry to hear that🥺 you have such a big heart and I hope that such a heartfelt gift is able to bring your family the love and comfort that they deserve
Hey, I am currently trying to make a blanket similar to this one with the same color/brand of yarn you used. Could you please tell me the dimensions of the blanket and how many granny squares it took to make so I can get a rough estimate?

i HAVE to have sound while im crocheting & im out of my usual shows & youtube docs. im making a sweater for my dog rn but this makes me want to make a blanket soon too😁
right??? I feel like listening/watching something while you crochet enhances the experience so so much!! and I LOVE making stuff for my dog too hehe
Don’t Know if someone said this already but if you crochet squares and then have put them together use stitch markers to hold your squares together
this is genius!!!
Now I wanna make my 2024 temeprature blanket. While watching, I was making a spiral granny square for a balaclava!
the temperature blankets are the coolest!! and i had to look up the spiral balaclava but it is so neat, I've never seen a spiral granny square before!! I hope that they both turn out great :D
Heyyy so I was also literally working on my first ever crocheted blanket tooo

Such a gorgeous blanket!!! What pattern did you follow for the boarder of the solid granny squares!?
aw thank you so much :)) and I didn't follow a pattern but I would do 3dc (in a single stitch), skipp two stitches, 3dc (in a single stitch)! for the corners I'd do 3dc, ch2, 3dc.
Just started my christmas gift grind
right on time B)

I did a talk through of the entire pattern on tiktok but it’s basically 3dc, skip 2stitches, 3dc all the way around!
hi, just a tip for joining, theres tutorials on youtube for a granny stitch join-as-you-go, it looks the same as youre joins look but its quicker and easier
... I needed to hear this. thank you!
It’s Beautiful. What yarn fibre did you use?
thank you! and it's 100% acrylic
What are the names of the yarn colors you chose? They are just so pretty together!
I believe it was rocky mountains, canyon lands, carlsbad caverns, capitol reef, and badlands in the lionsbrand heartland line!
@@melanielocke Thank you!
Loved crocheting along with you, great company, blankets gorgeous 🙂
aw

Could to detail what you do for the trim? Thank you
i believeeee i did 3dc in a st, skip 2, repeat. And then 3dc, ch2, 3dc in the same stitch for the corners! I explained it a bit better in a talk through tiktok tutorial I have up!
Hey girl! Did you follow a basic pattern somewhere? I can tell what you did for the squares but I don't want to guess on stitch count D:
I followed a solid granny square tutorial and did 6 rounds total!
@@melanielocke Thank you so much
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍😍
Can you provide details on how to add the trim border you are using for each square?
I have a talk through tutorial on tiktok! But I believe i did clusters of 3 dc in a st, skipped 2, 3dc
Not necessarily a happy project, but I'm trying to speed crochet a xl chunky granny square blanket for a terminally ill family member. Not one talks about the bittersweet aspect of the craft like this, and unfortunately sympathy projects are a lot more common than I think most crafters realise. Sorry to get so deep here 😅
Thanks for keeping me company though. The blanket is gorgeous! 😍
oh my goodness! I am so so sorry to hear that🥺 you have such a big heart and I hope that such a heartfelt gift is able to bring your family the love and comfort that they deserve
@@melanielocke Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I really appreciate it! X
New sub since your channel just popped up for me 😊
aw hello and welcome!!
i was about to finish the largeset scarf ever
sounds sooooo cozy
Hey, I am currently trying to make a blanket similar to this one with the same color/brand of yarn you used. Could you please tell me the dimensions of the blanket and how many granny squares it took to make so I can get a rough estimate?
so sorry for the late response, but my blanket is roughly 4.5'x4.5' and has 64 squares total!
