Really understand how the RAS works, and all the adjustments, and you do not need to limit yourself with this expedient method. Take a comprehensive approach. The RAS can crosscut, rip, mold, drill horizontally.
In-fence dust collection is good, but it only works well with cross-cutting. There are so many cool things you can do with a RAS (e.g., miters, bevels, dados, compound miters, ripping, molding, shaping, etc). Unfortunately, a fixed fence limits many of those capabilities.
So cool how many fences you can make for a Radial. I made a fence that held warped boards down flat when ripping thin strips. I really don't know why you couldn't have an Aluminum fence made out of a 1"x3" tube. I cross cut aluminum on my saw sometimes with no problem. I do use a carbide and it cuts great. Quality Table saws rule ❗
In all the videos I have watched regarding radial arm fences and dust collection, they waste all this effort only to have a 90 degree crosscut saw, when a radial arm saw was created to do so much more. If you are going to do this, you may as well stick with your table saw and chop saw.
You can tell when somebody does not use (or know how to use) a Radial Arm Saw to it's fullest potential. A fixed fence limits saw to cross cutting. That is why RAS include removable fence, rear table and spacers.
Brilliant way to design and build the fence. I just inherited a RAS and built a new top and stand for it. The next thing on the list is a dust collector fence. Perfect timing huh? I use my shop for much more than woodworking so it is portable with a dust collection barrel built in the stand so the 2"hole will be on the bottom. I do have a question though, looks like you blocked off a small square section just in front of the 4" duct, what was the purpose? Won't it collect debris? Nice video but I'd rather hear the tools or narration over 14+ minutes of looped music. Thanks for sharing!
Dear Sir, nice construction. Good that you give a dedicated parking station for the saw in the build. What are those amazing pliers called that crimp the pipe? I have never seen them but would find them very useful.
Music kills a lot of videos for me. I have lost a lot of hearing so the music just adds confusion most of the time I make a comment like this I just shut the video off I’m about to shut this one off.
Lear to tuck your thumb under the palm when holding stock, it serves no purpose there as work will naturally slide back to the fence thanks to the blade action, which will also sever an errant thumb. ☺
3 minutes of mediocre guitar riffs on repeat is moderately painful on the ears. Design i will give a 6 out of 10. Execution of design 8 out of 10. Lots of things could have been done better and safer.
I agree - this is smart and simple. Just the idea I needed to see. Thanks !!

Brian Weekley you absolutely right, but cross-cutting that is only operation I found this saw useful in my shop.
@@mancaveworkshop3823 I got to agree with Brian. For cross cutting a compound miter saw is way easer than a RAS.
But as I saw in another TH-cam you can make some simple mitre jigs which avoid the need to change the saw arm from parallel. A lot less fuss.

Sweet idea, thank you! Especially since I exclusively use my old Radial Arm Saw for crosscuts.
Play at 1:25 or 1:5 , Speaker off
Great Job!

Very nice. You took an approach to the fence that I hadn't thought of before. I seldom use my saw for anything but, 90 degree cross cuts.

Great job, great idea. 👏🏾😊 Had to watch this on mute though. Music was too loud and annoying.
P F thanks

Nice build, could do without the frantic music.
You're a bit casual with hands near your table saw blade. Made me wince a few times. Why does everyone on YT take the guard off?
Had me baffaloed, until you put the top on, awesome fence. I've just gotta get me one of those crimping tools!
I get the small triangle pieces to give you the venturi effect but whats with the small piece with the 2 screws in it guys?

good video but it needs to be muted the music holy crap
