Here’s a lovely dresser for you from Jerpoint in Co. Kilkenny in the home of Kathleen and Joe Daly from Jerpoint in Co. Kilkenny. Joe salvaged the dresser from a derelict house about 50 years ago and brought it back to life. He told me that “the back was rotten and it was covered in cow shite” but he cleaned it and striped it and this is the end result.
Lovely example of an Irish dresser, complete with bright colours and carved symbols on the frieze. It also has a particular feature where you hang spoons from the shelf which I find a bit in the south east of the country.
In the video they bring me on a quick tour of their sitting room and kitchen and you can see other great pieces they have saved or made from a settle to a plate rack and gorgeous fireplace surround. Great people.
