  • I wanted to build a portable aquascape so I could easily transport it from school over break. This tank allowed me grow multiple plants without C02 and hide a heater in the back.

    I did the exact same thing in college. You lower the water level by half and seel the lid and it makes the perfect travel tank. Also, I kept him in this. I tried moving him into a 5 gallon filtered and heated tank and he hated it. He just sat on a leaf and didn't really move and when he did it was as far from the current as possible. He went back to normal in his jar which is 1 gallon by the way. I have a new one now who loves his five gallon and shares it with some cories. Most fish probably would prefer the larger tank but bettas especially might have trouble swimming with a fast current. Gideon (the cookie jar betta) hated the 5 gallon. Even after turning off the filter he refuse to go anywhere near the middle he just stayed to one side so it just depends and you need to do the appropriate water changes for the capacity. The live plants will help filter too.

      I thought that was all I had until I did some research and apparently there’s a really good fish store an hour away. Definitely recommend doing some research. 1 hour away with better quality is better than petsmart/petco down the block

    Frankly, I am shocked at the way Betts are sold in the US. If a shop in Germany had Betts in such small cups, they would be shut down. Apart from being too small, a round glass is not suitable for any fish ( which is why fish bowls are banned in Germany as well).

      I got to say living in Taiwan as an American trust me that's a hell of a lot better than Taiwan at least those bettas look healthy and the water is clean and they're not stuffed into a drinking cup

    • @meggrotte4760
      @meggrotte4760 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm not joking I started having betta fish like about four months ago I had to go through six bettas 10 Guppies and Tetris to realize that the reason they were dying was because they don't properly keep them medicated for infection and bacteria because the environments of the bettas are terrible. To be honest pet stores in Taiwan don't impress me mainly because they care about making money more than they do about the animals if you're going to sell pets to people you need to make sure that they're healthy and that they're ready for their forever home

      In Indonesia if theres a local shop selling fish the betta will be put in a jar thats not vey big but better than a cup and the betta looks healthy i used to keep 4

      Here in sweden thats illegal to keep bettas in such small containers, and your not allowed to buy a betta unless you have a 10 gallon, some fish Are allowed in a 5 gallon but a tank that is 10-20 gallons is recommended by pet shops in sweden

    People shouldn't worry about the tank cycling and temps if he is a fish keeper he knows what he's doing. As far as the water quantity goes, people can see from what condition he was brought from "A CUP". So this new home is a million times better from that cup if not the best thing for the Betta to live. People should be thankful he rescued one. Most of the times poor bettas rot and die in those cups.

    • @nkkenlken3220
      @nkkenlken3220 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Mir Hammal if he wanna save Bettas then dont buy them.
      The shop would think «well ppl are gonna save those poor bettas then we should get more Bettas because that way we make more money»
      But rest of what u said i correct

    • @unmeinatsume1356
      @unmeinatsume1356 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Mir Hammal Sure it's better than a cup, but a cup is still better than a mud puddle, etc. Just cause it's in a little better living condition than it was in before doesn't means it's ideal. If he really wants to rescue bettas, he has to go through and stop the whole store from selling bettas. I don't define this as a rescue if you are giving the company money to buy more fish to take its place.

    • @Mir.Hammal.Baluch
      @Mir.Hammal.Baluch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@unmeinatsume1356 let's be realistic, shops will never stop selling fish. They will keep selling regardless of high or low sales. Poor bettas are not thousand dollars fish so they'll keep bringing them, even with low or no sales at all ( which is of course not possible there will always be buyers). Now either the governments of those countries can stop this from happening which is again very unlikely or people like us can save one while we can. I don't choose to wait and watch and see if governments does something or sales drop. I choose to save a betta if I can. Hope you understand

    • @nkkenlken3220
      @nkkenlken3220 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mir Hammal sorry but thats wrong because of ppl dont buy Bettas then the shops will lose money because they need to get money for the fish ( the fish and the cup isnt free) so if he wanna save them then he should stop ppl to buy them.

    To start off with, I'd like to say that I love your videos a lot! Now, I'd like to adress the people that think what he is doing is wrong. If you actually look at his channel, you'd know that the fish's safety is his number 1 priority. He cycles, he has a heater, and there is no need for a filter if you change the fish's tank at least weekly. Sure this is pretty small, but at least the fish has oxygen and warm water! And he said that he was going to move his fish after his semester. This isn't as bad as you guys are making it. He is completely aware of what he is doing. So please, back off. He didn't harm the fish in any way, in fact he saved it from a horrid ending. I'd like to see you guys try and put this much effort into a tank like this. Or as many of you prefer, a "jar". (Even though it has all the qualities of a real tank)

    A+ good idea imo! The only thing I worry about is when you go to pick it up and take it with u what if the stone shatters that glass? Unless its acrylic. But even then I would worry the rock would go loose n hit the fish. Otherwise I think this is a fantastic transport idea. Myself Id probably just keep it bare with floating plants. This mini transport tank makes perfect sense for holiday breaks during college. Makes moving the lil guys easier and they have shelter in the plants to keep stress low, plus it looks pretty!

    If that was a already used gravel and combined with so many live plants and with water amount not so much I don't think that the tank needed cycling plus if the room temps are good combined with that powerful light waters temps would also be fine. So yeah he is a happy Betta in a beautiful new home.

    Hope you let air get in inside and don’t let it completely sealed. Very nice.

    When I first got my female beta (she has a purple/blue color and her name is Diane), she was in terrible condition. She was dull, and was somewhat lethargic. Yet after a week, I found that she gained vibrancy and loved living there in my beta sorority tank (basically I have 3-4 female betas in their tank)! Can you guess where I got her from?
