Chris is just as out of touch as the rest of the media, unable to grasp why so many of us support Luigi. He’s a millionaire who can afford perfect dental care and has enjoyed excellent healthcare his entire life. But when someone like Luigi-a wealthy kid-chooses to side with the poor and go rogue, they have no idea how to handle it. Mario Cuomo, Chris's own father, would probably be appalled by his stance-which is so ironic, considering all the Super Mario Luigi memes going on.

We need to not let this go. We need to not get distracted from the CORE ISSUE. For-profit health insurance is based on a fundamental conflict of interest. The more healthcare that is denied, the more profit these companies make. THIS IS THE ONLY ISSUE WE SHOULD BE DISCUSSING regarding this event. $450 BILLION dollars PER YEAR. ~68,000 deaths attributable to delayed, withheld, and lacking care PER YEAR. These private for-profit healthcare corporations are selling years of our life expectancy for as much money as they can extract from us. We pay more per capita for healthcare than any other nation on earth, yet we are consistently worse than 40th in life expectancy. Private, for-profit health insurance NEEDS TO END.

Blaming the insurance industry is wrong: the fish rots from the head. Not only the prescription medicine cost but also the provider's compensation cost should be lowered. If a doctor's hour pay would be $40 (instead of $400), or a blood sampling would cost $15 (instead of $150), many would not even need health insurance. Besides, we would demolish the wrong MD-mentality that becoming a doctor means becoming rich. Doctors would choose that profession based on their humanity and passion, not revenue, and that would also increase the quality of care and decrease the FRAUD (fake self-referrals or fake patient-screening-time reports to the CMS for reimbursement) because risking for small money would be silly.

Let's face the obvious facts: The role of a top Doctor is to save lives, and role of a top insurance CEO is to take away people's savings. The average salary of a Doctor in the U.S is $363,000. And the salary of the top U.S.CEO (The President) is $400,000. But a glorified insurance clerk like Thomson who was not a Doctor or a Nurse, and could not treat patients, was getting $10,000,000 a year+ Bonuses ...!!! The insurance companies are allowed by Law to come up with scams to collect premiums, and come up with even bigger scams to deny paying for the healthcare. This has been allowed by Law because the Lawmakers are getting Bribes (Campaign Contributions) from Insurance Companies and from the Big Pharma. So, the questions people should be asking are:
    1) Why the Lawmakers are allowed to get Bribes (Campaign Contributions) from Insurance Companies and from the Big Pharma?
    2) Why the Supreme Court has ruled that giving Bribes (Campaign Contributions) is Freedom of Speech?

And also cap their pricing so they dont price gouge people or reject them. OR, take the money out of our ridiculous military budget? Why cant we do that? Why do people have to suffer and die over this? Life vs Money in an oligarchy....who usually wins in this comparisson? MONEY of course. It shows the true colors of this country and it scares us Chris, that we can be next. If you are middle class first you are the caregiver trying to balance out work and your second job a 24 hour nurse with NO DAYS OFF. You get to see your father, mother, daughter, son, deteriorate. THEN on top of that, your parent or loved one passes away and you find out you are sick from caregiving because if you are a caregiver your probably of getting sick increases by 40% (fact check me), now you are being denied life saving care and have to fight with insurance companies to save your own life while your family watches you deteriorate. Fun times being working class in America....now add in, inflation, no paid time off from work, no mandatory paid vacation days or working in a job that is ruining your mental health but you cant leave unless you find another job with good insurance? Now youre rotting from both ends and most insurance doesnt cover mental health. If you're middle class an get sick, you are screwed. You will most likely die younger than you should in the USA. That's your fate. That is why no one gives a F about Brian Thompson. He lived a better quality life than most of us ever will in all of our life times. He had fiscal security. China is our biggest geopolitical adversary. We quite literally cannot spend less on defense than we do. What we can do is ensure our military is actually efficiently using the money we give them. But reducing the budget?

You just give them your alberta healthcare number or drivers license number, and your in and out. You'll never see a bill. Why do canadians have it, because its simply the right thing to do. I don't know how americans deal with this setup. Paying high monthly premiums on top of employer contributions, then having to pay a portion when they use it, then being denied coverage by a private insurance systems. THIS IS SO WRONG. I knew there were cracks forming in the private healthcare armour, now this is going to blow it wide open. MAKE IT HAPPEN. A universal healthcare system made in America. Like every other country in the world.

I don't know what its like these days but when I was young it sounded like healthcare workers saw the insurance companies as opponents to good patient outcomes starting in the 80s. I am surprised it took so long for something like this to happen. When you take lots of money and don't like to pay (causing major financial crises) plus loved one are permanently damaged or dead... This sort of thing isn't surprising. The surprise is the rarity. Part of the problem for hospitals is that they must take patients who cannot pay. Talking reasonable sources (insurance company staff and Account on a hospital board) public healthcare pays 10% to 40% of cost... where do folks think the excess expense comes from... There are lots of closed hospitals in the USA since 1980. Some counties no longer have hospitals.

Our feeling of enmity even though we haven't felt the "bite" comes from the same place our feeling of enmity stems from in regard to the housing market. We (I'm 32) were promised the "American dream" and we've grown up to find out that if we weren't born into wealth and privilege, it's nothing more than just that, a dream. Because of a vast need for dividends, shareholder profits, CEO bonuses, high ROI on portfolios for the top 10%, etc. They'll keep squeezing us, degrading service and quality in all sectors. Just for those sweet sweet returns. And at what cost? I'd argue, the American youth's future. So yeah, we have a feeling of general enmity. Better yet, we're mad as fuck. Because we're all waking up to the reality of our future and it differs massively from what we were promised if we busted our asses. And please, spare me the lazy millennial speech. I'm a highly trained commercial/industrial electrician, I get paid much better than most of my peers, Ive worked every summer since I was 13 and hit the jobsites at 19. She appealed for months and she even prepared for the surgery just in case and hoped for the best. 4 hours before the surgery is when she got approved. Probably they were hoping she didn't do the prep since 4 hours before it is crazy. Thankfully she did and she got it but something needs to change, this has gotten out of control. Even for me they suddenly started requiring prior authorization for medication I have been taking for over decade, suddenly not covered, just like that.

Hey, couple of corrections: the appeals goes through 3 levels then goes to an independent review organization and regulated by the government to make sure the review is completed with no conflict of interest.
Also, many insurances are now being reimbursed on a value based arraignment- meaning population health outcomes drives reimbursements. This is usually through fully insured plans and self insured plans.
Last, fraud waste and abuse is a huge issue in healthcare. Meaning, there are people out there who charge fraudulently which causes insurance companies to need additional oversight. Also, there are companies out there, lobbying legislators to create rules to force insurance companies to cover non-evidenced based medical procedures through law!
