I like this format with Mike more. The cutaways throughout the review is nice as opposed to just at the end, though I'm sure it's a bigger undertaking from a filming and editing perspective.
Totally agree. It’s much more involved in terms of editing but it elevates it just so much more. As an editor as a profession, I dunno if I’d go thru the difficulty of it each and every review but some of the bigger ones I’d be happy if they did it.
Thank you for the critical review! This game was a long time in the making and had seen several iterations until we settled on what you see before you. Daily Magic Games does not do Kickstarter exclusives, meaning that everything will either come with the game or you can purchase them via the webstore. Backers usually get the product for free. If you buy from us, specifically, David makes sure to send everything together. If you happened to not get one, you can grab the print and play! I tried to link it here but it was deleted. We should have the link up on the product page and, if not, we have it linked on the BGG page. ALSO, Guild Academies is the last game we'll have in standard distribution, as we know it. If you'd like to read more on why that's happened, you can read everything via a post on the BGG Castellans page.
I quite enjoy having Mike in the corner of these reviews. It's delightful watching someone say something while he has a slow-rolling stroke. (17:25 to 18:36)
Loving this new format. Just wish you could keep the audio with both streams at the same time to make it so Mike could actually converse with Tom and Zee instad of having to just respond separately.
Thanks for the feedback! I agree that would be ideal, but we actually don’t stream these reviews because we want to maximize the quality of the audio and video. We each film our parts concurrently, and I edit them together in post production. Hopefully as we move forward, this process will continue to improve.
The Valeria series of games are great, I feel they always do a really good job of being easier/streamlined in how they play with a lot of depth in their strategies and they're fun!Haven't played this one yet but am looking forward to it
Stan has become one of my top five favorite designers. It is a good fun game. I think it is a little to large of a footprint like zee said. Tough to see icons from across the way.
Oooh, definitely disagree with "theme" on this one, I thought there was interesting implementation on theme on this one. Emphasis on what Mike says...I definitely got a progression for students, and going to specific classes to learn on the way to being graduated, building up the campus, going on quests with your letter jackets on and gaining power in the senate for what your academy has one.
If you want an alternative to West Kingdom, or if you have medium weight gaming friends that you need gateway material or something with heft but not too much complexity, this game is a great option.

Who cares ? Its not Hollywood Studios....
@gizzmoog4195 You may not care about it, but I and many of the commenters in this comment section do.

Tom, Zee and Mike are the A team for sure!
We're still waiting for your Riftlands expansion review for Shadow Kingdoms. It's really good btw!

The picture in picture works very well! Great job!
I can only agree with other comments. Having Mike there remotely is a format that works great and I love watching it. Good Review overall, too :)

I have been waiting for a review of this one from the Dice Tower. Thank you

Every school has that wild professor...
Castellans of Valeria was the 3rd in the big box versions of Valeria. This is the 4th.
correction. it is the 3rd one. Castellans isn't out yet. I thought it was. That'll be the 4th
