Easy to understand tutorial, and a very cute pattern. I'm making my cocoon brightly colored stripped, and I am gonna make a bug hat with antenna to look like a little Caterpillar in a cocoon.
@tuggles76 Like a finger .... keep crocheting on those first 6 stitches for as long as you like and then start row 2 of the video ... for a more gradul point that gets wider, row 6 stites and then on the nest add a stitch and then every row a 1 more until you get to 12 then follow the rest of the vudeo .. or iyou can add 2 or 3 (and so on ) to each row for different effects
I made it for a friend and increased up to 15 stitches between increase stitch and then 30 regular rows, which fits up to a 6 month old baby :) it's super cutte and was easy. Thanks a bunch :)
@agarkeema Hi, I do not have a pttern for this one BUT it is very simular to the Crochet a Basic Crown for a Beanie / hat Tutorial. there is a written pattern for that one ... you just make the cocoon as long as you need it
At 2:32 (stitch 5 in the initial loop) there is a Half Double Crochet instead of a full Double Crochet. If this is being followed religiously thru the video, just make sure the 5th stitch keeps with the pattern! Just an FYI, not a complaint. These videos are wonderful! Thank you for all of them. Great video and great instruction. :)
hi there, to make this with buttons you can follow the pattern but instead of joining each row, turn and work back across each time you get to the end of a row, this will leave a opening and then you can add buttons and use the holes created by the stitches hope this helps you
Hi, oo tht is a tricky question, I do not know how to increase ... a v stitch hat and make it HUGE and add the petals ... that is the kinda method to use
@mhulsey1 Hi, ooo this is a tricky one .....So does she want it to look like this only wider at the bottom to fit the babies side by side? I will think about how to tackle this one whilst i wait for your reply :) Thanks for your question :)
thank you for this video ! this is actually the first finished project I have done. The instructions are so easy to follow . I always left all the other crochet projects mid way since it got very confusing for me but this was just really clear and easy !
Thank you thank you thank you. This pattern was super easy to do, love it. I'm almost finished. I'm making for my first grand-daughter due in October. Will post a pic when finished. Only a few ore rows too good!
@myna102 Hi, Do you mean you are up to the row that has 5 stitches then a increase? and do you mean that it is laying flat? It will become a beanie shat when you do the rows of no increasing :)
@amberelaine333 If it is too big then I would pull it back to the last row of increase that you did, then pull out that row too.. I hate to pull out work so i feel your pain !
@mhulsey1 Yay cant wait to see a pic. When you first start it it may begin to ruggle up becasue there are twice as many stitches...but i think it may even up one you stop increasing and you need it wide to fit the babies :)
@mhulsey1 To tell you the truth i am really stumped on this :) I am thinking if you do 24 stitches for row 1 instead of 12 that will make it alot wider...because you will have twice as much stitches to start with and then continue with row 2 .. you will have alot more stitches but the increase should be the same...this is the pnly suggestion i have sorry.... after a few rows amybe 10 you should be able to see how wide it is going to be... just incease until you get the width you want..good luck
@vtoriree Its ok to ask as many Qestions that you like ) Its starets to go tube likt after about 4 - 5 rows of the no increasing...at first it does look a little funny :) But it will have to turn into a tube eventually becasue that is what you are making when to do no increase or decrease :) Good luck, Im here if you need more help
Hello There Thank you so much for all the help to learn to crochet this cocoon, I though have a question for you: how do you get the last stitch to be right on top of each other after each round, as no matter how I do .. it moves across the cocoon and give me 1 more on each row? Have tried for a long time and no matter how I do I end up the same. Can you maybe help as I do not like it go across the cocoon .. I hope you know what I mean. Kind Regards, Dukke Mor
YUP, its official, I am addicted to your videos, look forward to seeing more vids!! oh and is there something i could do to keep my fingers from hurting so much or is that normal??
I know this may be a lot to ask but do you have a typed out instruction for this just the basics on how many stitches are in each row? Thanks for the video it was a major help ! :)
I live in Canada, you say you are using a size 7 mil hook, what is that in it's letter equivalent? It looks rather large in the video. I just love love love your tuts and have just finished two beanie hats and would love to make this cocoon for a friend who's baby is due very soon!
hmm i know i have alot of mistakes in mine but it seems if i go on with the doubles for length it just gets larger i went to your site and saw the hat you fixed i still have length to add, can i alternate sc and dc or just all sc, of course this is just a practice, and i'm using baby yarn
@bobwilson123 it's lying flat, i didn't go in the hole to start or double crochet in the second row, but yea i'm up to five and increase no there is no cone shape lol, do i do the a different amount to put in the hole when i start if using the 12 stitches to start thanks for the quick response i'll be up at 11 to check again thanks swo much
I love this tutorial. as a beginner, it was a little difficult to follow at the start but once I understood where to put the dc everything was awesome. I do have a question tho...I started with 12 instead of 6, how can I effectively measure the diameter with the change of shape. I noticed that with 6 you were able to measure straight across but, with 12 its rounded. thanks in advance :D
I was wondering if you have a pattern for a mermaid bottom with tail. I have seen some with baby ones but I'm trying to find one for child size that's 32in in length and 22in around the waist with crocodile stitch.
Hi! I was asked to make a mermaid dress for a ten months old baby. I think maybe this video will help me. But, if you have another project, or have seen a pattern for a mermaid dress for babies, I would appreciate it if you could share it with me. Thank you so much!
Ops, sorry if I did not made my self clear .. I meant the stitches after the increasing. I can not make it straight up but keep getting more stitches after each row .. piuw, I did try for more than 2 month and I am not able to get it right .. any great advises? Kind Regards, Dukke Mor
bobwilson123 humm, ok. But that means you can't hold the baby upside down; it'll fall through. I'll be making one for my niece anyway; she has to figure out how to use it. Thanks for the wonderful video.
love the video...i just want to ask ....do i have to chain 3 at the start of every row? .i already stop increasing...all i have to do is continue to achieve the length ...thanks a lot 😊
Can you PLEASE do a tutorial on a mermaid tail PLEASE!!! Also include stitches needed for baby, child and adult sizes. :D PLEASE!!! An easy stitch would be great. Nothing fancy.
ok but she does 4 to start i thing then dc around inside the opening, i want to do 12 so it's not so pointed, so how any dc in the opening would i put in thank you
ok i see what i did wrong, if i use the 12 how many do in go into the hole with i'll leave this on incase someone responds before i go to work tonight. but i do have a nice doily da
this is honestly the hardest video I've ever tried to follow. I use youtube videos to crotchet all the time, and I just think you make easy things harder.. I don't understand what your trying to do.. Even your slipknot in the begining is way more complicated than anything Ive ever seen and known! I really wanted to do this pattern, but ill have to find it somewhere else because Ive restarted this video 6 times and still am getting no where!
i'm so dissapointed i could cry, i've tried several times to make this but i couldn't get it to look right, finally i saw what i was doing wrong. it has the v look like your's , i stopped at 10 and i did the 1 1 2 in the beginning and the other, for the next set i'm doing the double crochet's for the length but it looks like a bowl. i started with 12 i didn't want the point. and now i see you counted the chain up as one. is there anything i can do
In Australia we use the millimeter and in US some times you use the letters I have a conversion chart on my website and you can find it on this page - scroll down to see the documents when you get to the page www.bobwilson123.org/helpful-crochet-information.html
Hi, someone help me please with this. I will be crocheting a baby's blanket, cap, booties, sweater and pants match. Pink and white. What should I should I charge
What a marvelous way of keeping the number of increases the same row number. How easy to remember! Thank you!
Easy to understand tutorial, and a very cute pattern. I'm making my cocoon brightly colored stripped, and I am gonna make a bug hat with antenna to look like a little Caterpillar in a cocoon.

Clare this is going to come in handy. My niece is having a baby and I am going to make this for her. thank you.
HI there, you can make your slip know any way you like to, the coocoon is just an over sized hat
I made it for a friend and increased up to 15 stitches between increase stitch and then 30 regular rows, which fits up to a 6 month old baby :) it's super cutte and was easy. Thanks a bunch :)
@vtoriree If you think it is really loose then maybe use a smaller hook ?
so what I got from this video is start it off like a beanie, then keep going up when you're done increasing. yay, got it!! :)
@agarkeema Hi, I do not have a pttern for this one BUT it is very simular to the Crochet a Basic Crown for a Beanie / hat Tutorial. there is a written pattern for that one ... you just make the cocoon as long as you need it

thank you for your video. It was the best video I could find to show me how to crochet the baby cocoon
@mguerra6 My pleasure! Thanks for watching :)
Hi it is a k hook
thanks for watching
@myna102 are you up to the part where you dont do increasing? The fist few rows wont look right until you add lengh to it
Hi, oo tht is a tricky question, I do not know how to increase ... a v stitch hat and make it HUGE and add the petals ... that is the kinda method to use
@mhulsey1 Hi, ooo this is a tricky one .....So does she want it to look like this only wider at the bottom to fit the babies side by side? I will think about how to tackle this one whilst i wait for your reply :) Thanks for your question :)
Hi yes that is pretty much what you do :)
thank you for this video ! this is actually the first finished project I have done. The instructions are so easy to follow . I always left all the other crochet projects mid way since it got very confusing for me but this was just really clear and easy !
Awesome news Miriam, thank yo so much for watching my tutorials
Thank you thank you thank you. This pattern was super easy to do, love it. I'm almost finished. I'm making for my first grand-daughter due in October. Will post a pic when finished. Only a few ore rows too good!
Great project for a newborn - thank you for choosing my pattern
Thank you so much for sharing! I've made two cocoons so far and I'm working on my third..
Hi, yes this pattern will work if you use a smaller hook
@myna102 If you want to start with 12 DC in the middle then do 12 :) and then continue with the pattern
I don't know how to post my cocoon?
HI ther I would say it will fit a small newborn. A newborn is about 50cm/20 inches long when laying flat
hope this helps
@laurarsh Depending on the yarn that you use, I used 3 balls for this but they werent very big :)
@Elvis66 Thanks for watching !
This is going to be my next project.Thank you for the tutorial.
@BaileyNicolee97 Yeah sure ! I would maybe not increase it as much :)
DId you find it ? If you search 'How to Crochet A Basic Baby Cocoon' in the youtube search , it should come up with both videos
thank you for watching
@mhulsey1 Yay cant wait to see a pic. When you first start it it may begin to ruggle up becasue there are twice as many stitches...but i think it may even up one you stop increasing and you need it wide to fit the babies :)
Hi Claire! I was wondering if you can make a tutorial on baby leg warmers??? You have a ton of talent! :-)
HI there, what part are you getting stuck on ?
@mhulsey1 To tell you the truth i am really stumped on this :) I am thinking if you do 24 stitches for row 1 instead of 12 that will make it alot wider...because you will have twice as much stitches to start with and then continue with row 2 .. you will have alot more stitches but the increase should be the same...this is the pnly suggestion i have sorry.... after a few rows amybe 10 you should be able to see how wide it is going to be... just incease until you get the width you want..good luck

Hi there , I am sorry but i do not have this pattern typed out yet
@MsGin1969 OMG really ? Ill go have a look and put a note there to let people know ...sorry !!
Hello There
Thank you so much for all the help to learn to crochet this cocoon, I though have a question for you: how do you get the last stitch to be right on top of each other after each round, as no matter how I do .. it moves across the cocoon and give me 1 more on each row?
Have tried for a long time and no matter how I do I end up the same. Can you maybe help as I do not like it go across the cocoon .. I hope you know what I mean.
Kind Regards, Dukke Mor
@myna102 Im not quiet sure what you mean. are you able to make a video responce?
Thanks for the great tutorial. What length do you recommend for a newborn? Is 16 inches too short?
YUP, its official, I am addicted to your videos, look forward to seeing more vids!! oh and is there something i could do to keep my fingers from hurting so much or is that normal??
HI there, I have not got any mermaid style tutorials at the moment sorry
I know this may be a lot to ask but do you have a typed out instruction for this just the basics on how many stitches are in each row? Thanks for the video it was a major help ! :)
Sorry but I do not get that yarn here where I live
I live in Canada, you say you are using a size 7 mil hook, what is that in it's letter equivalent? It looks rather large in the video. I just love love love your tuts and have just finished two beanie hats and would love to make this cocoon for a friend who's baby is due very soon!
HI there, you will get a slower increase if you do it every other row :)
@myna102 yes :)
newborn :)
Is there a way to make sleeves on the cocoon blanket?
hi there, the increase is 2 stitches into the same stitch :)
Love this video very helpful since I'm making one...
Do you mind doing this with pom pom yarn? PLEASE!
This was very helpful! Thanks!
Wish the written instructions were posted
hmm i know i have alot of mistakes in mine but it seems if i go on with the doubles for length it just gets larger i went to your site and saw the hat you fixed i still have length to add, can i alternate sc and dc or just all sc, of course this is just a practice, and i'm using baby yarn
@vtoriree Excellent !!

@MsGin1969 Thanks for letting me know :)
@bobwilson123 Thank you!! You have taught me so much! Take care...
What do you do if you would like a longer point?
how many stitches did you do into the loop please x
have u ever made this by chrocheting from end to end and in rolls and then sew 2 pieces front and back together. I hate doing the rounds
would it work if i use smaller hook?
ok you know when you start with 4 and put 5 in the center i want to do 11 or 12 how many do i put in the center hole the same 5 or more thank you
I love this tutorial. as a beginner, it was a little difficult to follow at the start but once I understood where to put the dc everything was awesome.
I do have a question tho...I started with 12 instead of 6, how can I effectively measure the diameter with the change of shape. I noticed that with 6 you were able to measure straight across but, with 12 its rounded.
thanks in advance :D
measure form one side to the other and multiply it by 3.14 - this will give you the circumference :) Thank you for watching
Thanks so much!
What size baby would this pattern fit?
Asking because I would like to make this for a friend that does Photography.
I was wondering if you have a pattern for a mermaid bottom with tail. I have seen some with baby ones but I'm trying to find one for child size that's 32in in length and 22in around the waist with crocodile stitch.
Hello
Sorry I do not have the pattern you are asking about
Thank you for your question
Danielle McColery Yolanda soto lopez has one youtube u should check it out but its not crocodile stitch
@MsNessha1 Hi MsNessha1, thanks for your comment and thanks for watching !
Hi! I was asked to make a mermaid dress for a ten months old baby. I think maybe this video will help me. But, if you have another project, or have seen a pattern for a mermaid dress for babies, I would appreciate it if you could share it with me. Thank you so much!

Hi mine is about 11.5" just wondering what size of a baby would that be? and how long would if have to become to fit that size?
Thanks
Thanks for the great tutorial very helpfull
Which side the baby's head go to? Looking at this, I can't really tell. Sorry for my ignorance, I don't have kids.
Hello, the baby goes feet first into the cocoon :)
bobwilson123 humm, ok. But that means you can't hold the baby upside down; it'll fall through. I'll be making one for my niece anyway; she has to figure out how to use it. Thanks for the wonderful video.
Elane Horhi Ahhh, I really don't think that babies are going to be held upside down at all.
I used 6 but you can use 12 also :)
love the video...i just want to ask ....do i have to chain 3 at the start of every row? .i already stop increasing...all i have to do is continue to achieve the length ...thanks a lot 😊
Hello, yes you do need to do the chain 3 still because it is how you start each round :)
thanks a lot 😊
I'm gonna make an adult size one. ;3
Hi, I am sorry to say that I do not know how to make one :(
Can you PLEASE do a tutorial on a mermaid tail PLEASE!!! Also include stitches needed for baby, child and adult sizes. :D PLEASE!!! An easy stitch would be great. Nothing fancy.
sorry the question was for KH Rob, i ended up using 12 anyways :) looks better and get more stitches quicker tbh x
How many yarn rolls does this take to complete?
Thanks :) the cure for sore hands is PUT THE HOOK DOWN !!!! :) Have a break LOL
Hola se podrá hacer en puntos bajo
Can u put a tail on this to make a mermaid tail cocoon? Asking as it is pointed at bottom and the ones i see arent
Yes i think so, if you want it less pointy, start with 12 stitches instead :) This will make it rounded and not pointy
Ty so much. If u know how to do converse booties would love a tutorial. Most are not explained very well
Hello Karen, sorry I am not sure how to make them
Bugger lol
ok but she does 4 to start i thing then dc around inside the opening, i want to do 12 so it's not so pointed, so how any dc in the opening would i put in thank you

I'm looking for a pattern for a football baby swaddler do you happen to have one? or could you point me in the right direction?
+Teresa Roberts Hello, I do not have a baby cocoon pattern. I would do a google search or TH-cam search to see if something comes up
i'm so dissapointed i could cry, i've tried several times to make this but i couldn't get it to look right, finally i saw what i was doing wrong. it has the v look like your's , i stopped at 10 and i did the 1 1 2 in the beginning and the other, for the next set i'm doing the double crochet's for the length but it looks like a bowl. i started with 12 i didn't want the point. and now i see you counted the chain up as one. is there anything i can do
@bobwilson123 You are welcome. :) Thank You. :)
where is the second video for this????????????
@mhulsey1 please let me know how you go and i would love to see it if you are succesful :)
Are crochet hook sizes the same in Australia and the Usa?
In Australia we use the millimeter and in US some times you use the letters
I have a conversion chart on my website and you can find it on this page - scroll down to see the documents when you get to the page
www.bobwilson123.org/helpful-crochet-information.html
What size is this?? Do I just use a bigger crochet hook for a bigger size
Hello this is newborn size, about 50 cm long
Yes a bigger hook will make a bigger cocoon :)
Hi, someone help me please with this. I will be crocheting a baby's blanket, cap, booties, sweater and pants match. Pink and white. What should I should I charge
Hey, check on Etsy... A lot of people sell that kind of thing on that website, you can use their prices as a reference.
Great, thanks
+Kylee Chamberlain thanks so much someone just asked me to do this and i dont have a clue what to charge
Do u have a mermaid video?
