    Inversion Therapy is great for sciatica, a few minutes each day, stretching the body and the sciatica ceases. It took me six weeks initially, a few minutes each day. I've come across a Green Lipped Mussel massage cream for muscles and that has tea tree and glucosamine sulphate in it. Highly recommend trying it. Herbs and oils are wonderful, I tried to grow St John's Wort in a container, it died on me.

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, the stretching is so excellent. I have a background in yoga and instruction, and I applied two specific movements to my daily routine...even while sitting...and these little stretches were incredibly helpful. I've heard good things about inversion therapy too!

    What is the shelf life of essential oils ?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Ester---This depends on the specific essential oil. Some (high in monoterpene constituents) will last about two years, while others, like patchouli, never go bad and instead improve with time. It just depends on the essential oil and the chemical makeup.

    Fantastic video. I'm always learning something new from you! The blue essential oils are really cool, I wouldn't expect chamomile to be blue. Have you seen that there is blue turmeric?? I just discovered it recently and I think I might buy some and grow it 😃
    I'm so happy you talk about these herbs and oils for pain, especially with your experience with back pain and healing yourself from the pain. Do you have a video or blog article that you talk about the stretches and yoga you did to help your back?? I would love to see that :)

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I had latent pains from shingles, I would be supporting the nervous system with tonics daily such as lemon balm and St. John's wort. There are a lot of contraindication for SJW, so be sure to learn more about the plants and how they work on the body. Cayenne salve may also be helpful. healingharvesthomestead.lpages.co/kaj-confident-herbalist-tribe-sp/

    I haven't any source for St. John's Wort plants. I did purchase St. John's Wort dried plant material. I was so sad when you mentioned in the video to use fresh plants. I would like to make an oil, but if a tincture is better for this form of plant, I would like to know. Is it futile to try an oil with the dried form?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, your infused oil with dried SJW is just not going to be as powerful as with fresh herb. My husband forages fresh SJW each year (sustainably) as it grows wild here and is considered a weed where we are. We do sell to our students of the Tribe and Ditch the Drugstore, but no longer to the general public because it was so much work!

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Barb! For making herbal infused oils, I generally like to use olive oil, almond oil, or grapeseed oil. For my essential oil carrier oils, I mainly use jojoba oil or almond oil. But there are many many others that work great too!

      Absolutely! For the recipes and remedies we cover safety, dosing, dilution and lots more. **You wouldn't want to mix a tincture together with a carrier oil. Hello Heidi!
    I made white willow tincture after your video about it... love it! Thank you!
    I got devil's claw dried herb to make a tincture and was wondering, what is the difference between that and devil's club? I have Nicole Apelian's Lost Book of Herbal Remedies which I love (for me, a beginner). She has devil's club for pain. The plant looks similar and has similar properties.
    Can you explain the difference?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes---it's very important to understand the specific actions of the plants and a bit about the phytochemistry. Willow bark and devil's claw work VERY different on the pain response, and for some kinds of pain, have a wonderful synergistic effect together. Devil's claw contains iridoid glycosides (and most specifically harpagoside) which are believed to have strong anti-inflammatory methods. Willow bark, on the other hand, contains salicin. Salicin goes through two metabolic processes in our human bodies and eventually turns into methyl salicylate, the active chemical that makes aspirin work. In a nutshell, those are the main differences. ***Here's a FREE training webinar that comes with a FREE 29 page book I've written on Five Best Herbs for Your Home Apothecary. It's this Sunday! I don't have access to fresh but I do have some Dried St. John's Wort, is it mandatory for the herb to be fresh or can I still make an effective oil with the dried herbs?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Personally, (opinion based on experience), the dried SJW is still very helpful in tea or tincture for emotional well being, but for pain-relief and nervous system support like sciatica, etc., I do prefer the fresh herb. We forage and sell fresh SJW for our students of DTDS and the Tribe each summer, and there may be other places to purchase fresh in the summer too (this is harvest time). Other herbalists may have differing opinions...

I also have an herbalism school, so if that's something you ever want to explore, I'm passionate about helping my students work with their bodies! When formulating, your decisions about which herbs to work with will be formed by 1) your intention for the blend; 2) the constitution/energetics of the plants and the individual person.....so if you can share more about what you're planning, maybe I can help. This is the king of question we discuss very deeply inside the Confident Herbalist Tribe in our weekly chats....and there are a ton of masterclasses to guide you, too---plus so much support in the community, where there is a lot of experience. No, I wouldn't do this. The reason is that the dried herb isn't nearly as effective as the fresh. Also, in those capsules from the store, you really don't know what's actually in there. Finally....powdered herbs are terribly oxidized and have lost most of their vitality.

She poured helichrysum oil in her hands and rubbed it on his chest where his heart is and it subsided. It really shuts those pesky nerves off when they are acting up and corrected his rhythm. Thanks for the reply Heidi! Keep the good work up

    I don’t get Aroma Therapie 🤷‍♀️

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Ester! Many people don't understand it either. In fact, many herbalists will tell people not to use essential oils-----because they're not trained in the practice. Other herbalists say. not to use them, and I know of one who has turned around and rebrands bulk oils under his own brand (NOT a good practice because the oils are probably adulterated). But aromatherapy is simply this: The essential oils work as therapy on the body and emotions (and even the spirit) through the specific chemical structure of the essential oil and also the application method chosen, as well as the constitution of the individual person using them---just as with herbalism. Aromatherapy is just another level of herbalism, in my view. **There is clinical evidence--lots of it--that proves that the EO chemicals do enter the bloodstream via the olfactory bulb (inhalation) as well as dermally through the skin.

    What brand oils do u use?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Sandy! I use only brands I know to be completely reputable and I'm also into the sustainability of the oils and where they come from. The companies I love to order from most are: Aromatics International, Rocky Mountain Oils, Amrita Aromatherapy, Plant Therapy, and Starwest Botanicals (soap making). I'll add links in the description for you! **There are many great companies out there too. But I'm pretty picky. Here's an article about my criteria for choosing companies: www.healingharvesthomestead.com/home/2018/1/14/how-to-choose-a-good-brand-of-essential-oils-it-pays-to-purchase-quality-essential-oils-but-they-dont-have-to-break-the-bank?rq=choose

    Hi Heidi, i have just found your channel and was delighted at the content. I have been looking for something like this for a while, so thank you. Could you tell me what one of the blue oils you think i would probably benefit the most from as i have arthritis and fibromyalgia? and as the three blue oils you mentioned Yarrow, Blue Tansy, and chamomile are quite expensive i would rather have some advice on which one you think would be better suited to my needs and as you are very experienced in this i thought who better to ask than yourself . I have a list of oils im ready to order so when you have time i would be obliged if you could let me know your thoughts on it. Thank you so much. Liked & subscibed x

      Hi, Angie--- Of the three for your conditions, I suggest going with the German chamomile. And, it has some other uses you might enjoy as well. :-) Also---thank you for being here!

    Will you share the recipe for carpal tunnel?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Sarah! I have literally hundreds of recipes in my notebooks, and I'll dig it out for you. I've been working out of my stock blend, which I made a great deal of so as not to run out. I'll do a video on this soon! I know it contains German chamomile, black pepper, ginger, frankincense, and a couple of other wonderful anti-inflammatory and nerve supporting oils.

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      St. Johns wort is gently supportive of the nervous system, so if you're having pains that are related to the nerves (like I was), then it can be very helpful when used consistently over time along with other lifestyle measures....like decreasing stress. The stress-pain cycle is real.
