I stopped the movie to look up for the miniature because the take off scene was so immaculate. I found a whole documentary. Wonderful. Good thing to be living in the future.
The folding of the rear wheels in the take off scene is particular. The steps of this 'animation' can be seen in the book: 'Back To The Future: The Ultimate Visual History' these sketches can also be seen in the documentary.
Thanks for the comment! Great to read that you finally have a DS. Hope you enjoy this iconic car. If you want to see more of my miniature version of the flying DS feel free to visit: instagram.com/props_of_the_future/ or cabtothefuture.weebly.com/
For a 1950s car it still looks futuristic today. My mum said she knew a lady who drove one and said it was VERY comfortable and you could fall asleep in the back!
Indeed, the suspension of a DS has a particular design and is very 'soft' on bumps in the road. As a child in the 80ies I used to drive along in my grandfathers DS. He described it as 'floating like a boat'. Personally I find the design of a DS unique, while it is an oldtimer it still looks futuristic to me. It blends into the Back to the Future 2 'futuristic Hill Valley' . Thanks for leaving a comment!
The Hill Valley Police Car was made by Gene Winfield, who also made the Starcar, The Spinner, Strip Star and The Hill Valley Transit Van. All these cars are custom designs (from scratch) and can be seen on the 2015 Hill Valley square.
it's funny they came up with the name "Surge" for the driver - Coca Cola's "Surge" brand did a promo in the 90s where they restored and gave away a bunch of Checker taxis.
The back to the future films contain many easter eggs and references to existing things. The yellow color scheme with the red roof and checker patterns can also be seen on Citroen DS taxis in Amsterdam in the 50ies..
It's nice to have the DS in the back to the future. However, when we watched the movie , you could tell for each of the car used the contemporary car they were derived from. The only one I couldn't was the police car!
I have placed a list on my website which contains all the cars I could identify on the 2015 Hill Valley square. Feel free to have a look at it.. maybe you can spot 2015 cars in the film I did not see ;-) cabtothefuture.weebly.com/2015-props.html (at the bottom of the page is the link)
" The oldster [Biff Tannen] pointed a quivering finger at a sleek silver car that was just taking off overhead. / "Follow that DeLorean!" he croaked. / Follow that DeLorean? That was the sort of thing people said in old, 2-D movies! Where was this old guy coming from? / Still, a fare was a fare. Fred eased the cab out and up. "
Very interesting and well made documentary. There is another Citroen "D" in the movie. When Marty goes to the alternate 1985 there is a wrecked one burning in the street. Would like to know the story on that?
I read somewhere that the wrecked DS seen in the alternate 1985 of BTTF2 was the same car that was used to build to Luxor CAB. Not sure if this is correct, that wrecked DS really looks beyond repair..
@@sva3897 It doesn't look to be the same car as the taxi. The taxi is a 1972 or later and the wrecked car looks much earlier judging by the door handles and wheels.
Indeed, in the scene where the old Biff pays for the taxi you can hear the parrot (called Priscilla) say some words as they drive away. I could not understand what the parrot was saying after 'hello'. In the the Back to the future 2 novelization (written by Craig Shaw Gardner) Priscilla corrects the driver when he figures Biff's fare. Maybe her babbling had something to do with that? Would be nice to know more about this.. backtothefuture.fandom.com/wiki/Priscilla
... and now we know, excellent doc. BRILLIANT. Thanks 👍😊

BTTF2 was one of the reasons I'd always wanted a DS. finally got a 72 last year. Of course it's yellow!

I got a 72 ds as well. I bought it because I read about it in a 1955 popular mechanics magazine
My grandmother owned a blue 62 and burgundy 68 model, well in fact, lower cost ID :
Actually they were flying cars for passengers 😁

indeed! the wrecked DS looks like an older model of the car, other door handles, wheels and round headlights..
There is another one when they are driving through the air traffic and one comes from the opposite direction and nearly miss them.
what does the parrot say after hello??
