Back to the future 2 Flying Luxor Cab, documentary : A DS in the Future
มุมมอง 8K5 ปีที่แล้ว
A documentary about a magnificent Citroen DS as seen in Back to The Future 2. The video was made by 'a dutchuncle.tv production' around a decade ago when the car was sold to it's new owner in Europe. It contains interviews with John Bell and Michael Scheffe telling the story behind the creation of the flying Taxi Cab. A story which I found inspiring to create a 1/18 animatronic miniature of the...

What the hell was that A taxi cab
yes, and it could fly!
bonjour travail quelle travail magnifique je fait actuellement la ds 1/18 mais il me manque les fichiers 3d vendez vous les fichiers svp merci de votre reponse
thanks for the compliment! Curious to see how your version of the Luxor Cab will look!
it's funny they came up with the name "Surge" for the driver - Coca Cola's "Surge" brand did a promo in the 90s where they restored and gave away a bunch of Checker taxis.
The back to the future films contain many easter eggs and references to existing things. The yellow color scheme with the red roof and checker patterns can also be seen on Citroen DS taxis in Amsterdam in the 50ies..
BTTF2 was one of the reasons I'd always wanted a DS. finally got a 72 last year. Of course it's yellow!
Thanks for the comment! Great to read that you finally have a DS. Hope you enjoy this iconic car. If you want to see more of my miniature version of the flying DS feel free to visit: instagram.com/props_of_the_future/ or cabtothefuture.weebly.com/
I got a 72 ds as well. I bought it because I read about it in a 1955 popular mechanics magazine
Amazing!
For a 1950s car it still looks futuristic today. My mum said she knew a lady who drove one and said it was VERY comfortable and you could fall asleep in the back!
Indeed, the suspension of a DS has a particular design and is very 'soft' on bumps in the road. As a child in the 80ies I used to drive along in my grandfathers DS. He described it as 'floating like a boat'. Personally I find the design of a DS unique, while it is an oldtimer it still looks futuristic to me. It blends into the Back to the Future 2 'futuristic Hill Valley' . Thanks for leaving a comment!
Congrats! Great Work! I'm working on a prop based on this instrument. I intend that both the longitude and latitude could be adjusted. Inicially I thought on a giroscopic estructure for the globe but then I discovered that it would be a little more complicated since the globe is to close to the window and due to this that is no space for any rods perpendicular to the North-South axis. I think I kind a have a solution for that but it'll take some thinking...
thanks! Curious to see how you model will look! In my model only the longitude of the globe can be adjusted with the rotating switch below. The other switch below the globe is to adjust the led patterns on the right of the panel. The axis on the poles are indeed close to the window. You will have to find a way to work around that. If you like some fotos of my globe mechanism as inspiration. Feel free to drop me a line on: cabtothefuture.weebly.com/
I stopped the movie to look up for the miniature because the take off scene was so immaculate. I found a whole documentary. Wonderful. Good thing to be living in the future.
The folding of the rear wheels in the take off scene is particular. The steps of this 'animation' can be seen in the book: 'Back To The Future: The Ultimate Visual History' these sketches can also be seen in the documentary.
The Hill Valley Police Car was made by Gene Winfield, who also made the Starcar, The Spinner, Strip Star and The Hill Valley Transit Van. All these cars are custom designs (from scratch) and can be seen on the 2015 Hill Valley square.
It's nice to have the DS in the back to the future. However, when we watched the movie , you could tell for each of the car used the contemporary car they were derived from. The only one I couldn't was the police car!
I have placed a list on my website which contains all the cars I could identify on the 2015 Hill Valley square. Feel free to have a look at it.. maybe you can spot 2015 cars in the film I did not see ;-) cabtothefuture.weebly.com/2015-props.html (at the bottom of the page is the link)
" $174.50 that'll be $174.50 here and be careful old timer its a rough neighborhood where's my receipt here it is hello hello how about a tip".
" The oldster [Biff Tannen] pointed a quivering finger at a sleek silver car that was just taking off overhead. / "Follow that DeLorean!" he croaked. / Follow that DeLorean? That was the sort of thing people said in old, 2-D movies! Where was this old guy coming from? / Still, a fare was a fare. Fred eased the cab out and up. "
WHy does it say HBAR in the window frame?
Hope you bagged up
epic
thnks!
what does the parrot say after hello??
Indeed, in the scene where the old Biff pays for the taxi you can hear the parrot (called Priscilla) say some words as they drive away. I could not understand what the parrot was saying after 'hello'. In the the Back to the future 2 novelization (written by Craig Shaw Gardner) Priscilla corrects the driver when he figures Biff's fare. Maybe her babbling had something to do with that? Would be nice to know more about this.. backtothefuture.fandom.com/wiki/Priscilla
Very interesting and well made documentary. There is another Citroen "D" in the movie. When Marty goes to the alternate 1985 there is a wrecked one burning in the street. Would like to know the story on that?
I read somewhere that the wrecked DS seen in the alternate 1985 of BTTF2 was the same car that was used to build to Luxor CAB. Not sure if this is correct, that wrecked DS really looks beyond repair..
backtothefuture.fandom.com/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_DS
@@sva3897 It doesn't look to be the same car as the taxi. The taxi is a 1972 or later and the wrecked car looks much earlier judging by the door handles and wheels.
indeed! the wrecked DS looks like an older model of the car, other door handles, wheels and round headlights..
There is another one when they are driving through the air traffic and one comes from the opposite direction and nearly miss them.
J'adore !! Comme la mienne au 1/43:)
Indeed I was going trough the same steps as you did on 1/43 :-)
@@sva3897 i love your work, I can't wait to see the other steps 😍
Hi there! Got my version of Griffs BMW finished on 1:18. Feel free to have a look: cabtothefuture.weebly.com/griff-bmw.html cabtothefuture.weebly.com/

That's amazing. Could you publish the files? Or at least the dimensions?
Thanks for your comment. Yes I can share some files.. Let's see what I can arrange for you.. Let's get in touch through email. Send me a mail with this form and I will reply to you; cabtothefuture.weebly.com/contact.html
My grandmother owned a blue 62 and burgundy 68 model, well in fact, lower cost ID : Actually they were flying cars for passengers 😁
I really like this one. You can see clearly how the EMG signals are passed trough the prosthetic hand. Keep up the good work, you r going to be able to help a lot op people.
This is lovely. Can you please share files and schematics ?
