OMG, the BEST video I have ever watched regarding Hydrangias! Clear, concise, you took your time with explanation and showed excellent examples of what you were trying to convey. For a newbie who wants hydrangias but have been so confused, I finally feel like I understand each variety and what will grow in my garden. This will my go to video to refer back to over and over. Love your chanel, thank you Eric and Christopher!! 🙌🤩💖
The video I needed! I've added 5 hydrangea to my garden so far, but there will definitely be many more to come. I'm obsessed! Particularly with the oakleaf variety. Thanks for the information and inspiration! ❤
Thank you for all the information. That’s quite the variety of hydrangeas. I bought one from Lowe’s garden center this past spring(2024) it was very small and I planted it in shade on my west side of house. I don’t know what I did wrong but it dyed right away. I live in Southern California zone 9b I think that it’s too hot here. They sure are a beautiful plant. Love your garden 🥰❤️😍 love your channel too.
You guys are the best! I can’t believe how much you have learned in just six years and your garden is absolutely stunning. Thank you for the hydrangea video…I really love them and hope they will grow well for me but I’m still experimenting.
I love your content, i have learned so much from your videos. I love the shirts and hats too! I purchased 3 of the new Eclipse Hydrangeas that were half off from Lowes, dark burgundy leaves and hot pink blooms. They love full sun! I also have a Pinky Winky tree in full sun, its doing wonderful.
Thanks so much for laying it all out for us. I wasn’t aware of 2 of the varieties. The list of plants you provided for your tour was excellent but I wasn’t sure which was which and which. I love hydrangeas!!!
I never realized there were so many different kinds of hydrangeas until i started watching your videos and now,,,, i want all of them!!! Your garden is absolutely gorgeous! Eric and Christopher,,, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Im am so excited to start collecting hydrangeas and it’s because of you! 😁
Thank you for this video! I’m trying to add as many as I can and now understand why some aren’t doing well. Plus super appreciate saying how far apart you planted your hedge. So helpful. Your videos provide so much detail!
This is an absolutely awesome video on hydrangeas- all the important points: sun and water requirements, pruning as well as size were clearly explained! Hard to believe you are not growers/breeders. I really enjoy watching you guys
Awesome video! So much good information, so well organized, lots of real life pictures … fantastic! Plus you included your own experiences growing them. More please! Feed me (and my hydrangea obsession) Seymour!!
Your love for the modern cottage garden has inspired me!! I added 9 hydrangeas & 13 rose bushes to my gardens this year & I love them all so much! I live in Omaha, zone 5b/6a, just like you all do. I am a huge fan of your gardens, but an even bigger fan of you two as a couple. 😊❤️ I love your interactions & the way you treat each other with such respect. So, so good. #RelationshipGoals
Absolutely amazing amount of information on hydrangeas. So well done and beautifully presented. Thank you both for all the hard work it took to put this together. I planted about 15 hydrengea this year after watching your videos. Can't wait to see them bloom next year. Enjoy seeing your beautiful garden 😊
Such an informative video! Everything is so well explained in such an easy to understand manner. Hydrangeas are my favs, but have also been a little afraid of the big leaf variety. This year I did buy 2, so with your help, I'm hoping they do well in my zone 5b garden. Thank you so much!!
Thank you I needed this info on Hydrangeas. We visited a garden center that had a huge selection of hydrangeas this past weekend, I was over whelmed at the selection. I honestly wanted 2-3 of each. Our yard is pretty much full sun all day, working on shade trees and larger bushes. You answered and gave me ideas, now so now hubby in going back to pick up some hydrangeas. I have learned so much from you two, you’re easier to relate to, being that you live in a regular home /yard like most of us. Thank you for sharing🌻🌻
Thanks guys for helping me take the worry out of growing these I have around 12 so far and around 5 of them did no bloom this year . But I didn't feed them that might have something to do with it and I moved some to a sunny place this year because they stopped blooming but this year they bloomed 😮 your video really helped my understand a lot that I may be doing wrong .
Hubs and I always look forward to your new videos. This hydrangea video did not disappoint! So much good information. If we lived closer, (southern Illinois just across from St Louis), we would definitely take one of your garden tours. Thanks so much for taking the time with these videos! Maybe it can become a full time job for you! 😉
I just bought 2 each of Let’s Dance Can Do, Lovable and Sky View. I’m in zone 8A so I look forward to seeing how beautifully they grow in coming years ❤
Awesome walk through. I just bought Mini Mauvette and Blue Jangles at the Proven Winners sale. Will be planting this weekend. Thanks for all the concise info!
Wow, that was great, I wish I had more room! I will echo what you said about them needing more sun. I was under the misconception that my Little Quickfires ( and all hydrangeas for that matter) needed shade. They only ever had a few blooms and were spindly. I moved them and now they’re blooming like crazy! 🇨🇦👏🌸
This is my first year with a Quick Fire Fab. It bloomed so early and the blooms were so big that for some reason I found myself being suspicious of it 😂 I love it! Too bad I don't have room for more.
I loved your video,in Illinois this summer the rain just flopped them and I lost so many I have the big floppy huge white blooms but not so strong stems I wound up cutting them back early . So for next year how can I strengthen their ability to thrive. They are over 10 years old . Thanks so much Robin
Great Video Guys. I cant wait to get my hands on the wee bit innocents. I have a few of those wee bit grumpy. Last year My buds got killed. This year I got flowers in their 3rd year. Would you cover those up if we got a late frost?

Thanks guys! Such an informative video. I love hydrangeas but struggle to grow them. I have four Let’s Dance (I think! Should have saved the tags 😅). I planted them three years ago and they are in full sun most of the day. I haven’t had a bloom yet because of deer, weird winter weather, my own ignorance re pruning, etc. When you say “winter protection,” what do you recommend? I haven’t been doing anything except adding a little extra mulch, but maybe I need to wrap them in something? We live right on the wild Atlantic Ocean, zone 6b, so I am thinking my plants might be too exposed to the elements, especially in the winter months.
love this video...having said that...I have a dumb question :) I have a client that has a "mountain" hydrangea/lace cap that has grown way to big--what and when is the best time to "cut it back" to bring it under control--I am sure there is going to be a risk of losing blooms for a year. I have advised that it is not wise to hack it back but just I would ask you both--experts :) thank you.
I think I might need an intervention. I started out two years ago with two Endless Summer varieties, a Bloomstruck and a Summer Crush(?) that I got on clearance at Hewitt’s. I knew nothing about hydrangeas or how to care for them, but they did great on their own. That led to Bobo(2), Little Lime(2), Firelight(1), Puffer Fish(2) and Annabelle(they are absolutely terrible, wish I had done more research)last year, and Let’s Dance Can Do(3)Incrediball (2, to replace Annabelle), Mini Mauvette(3) and Wee White(4)this year. I’m sure I’ll stop after I get the Tuff Stuff Ah-Ha and Let’s Dance Sky View that I desperately need..I blame the two of you.😂😂 Thank you for always providing such detailed information on every topic you cover.
Two of my 5-year-old limelight hydrangeas bent in half after heavy rain. They are trimmed about one-third down every year. What do you think I should do now?
Lots of mixed advice coming to us. It may be best to only prune lightly and allow more of the smaller stems to remain when pruning. It would encourage smaller blooms
Your gardens are absolutely beautiful! I garden as well, On a 4 acre lot in Northwest Indiana zone 5B. My question is, do you have any Macaphyla Big leaf Re blooming. OMG-can you guys please visit and tell me which ones I have? I’m struggling with all of them besides my oak leaf. I believe the deer gets to them early
I watched your video today as I am trying to figure out why my Tuff Stuff Mountain Hydrangeas are only blooming on the bottom rows of leaves. I have had only a few blooms on the top of 6 shrubs. they are very healthy looking. they are in front of our church facing east. and we do have very nice black soil. Help!!!
That sounds like a case of the buds being nipped by cold in the spring. The lower buds were probably protected. it could be rebounding and maybe put out new blooms in the summer
I planted Incrediball Smooth Hydrangeas and I dislike them so much. They turn green which I hate. I know that's a strong word so my apologies. What do you recommend for a hydrangea that stays white? Love your channel guys ❤

In your climate, panicle hydrangeas may follow growth measurements, beautiful bloom coloration, etc., but in the Deep South they tend to not be as aggressive, nor provide bloom coloration, and begin dormancy as the heat progresses…..bloom panicles turn dark brown and leaves begin to yellow and fall off….. 😩😩😩
Thank you gentleman, I needed a hydrangea tutorial.

That's so disappointing when a plant dies so quick. I suspect you are correct and the heat is just too intense there. Thank you for watching!
Very good summary/review of hydrangeas guys! Saving this one! 😊
Awesome! Thank you!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! One question - when do you apply the liquid fish fertilizer?
Usually we do it just before panicles start to bloom. Everything else gets it at some point in May or June

Make sure to show us how you protect your Big leaf hydrangeas in late fall!
Oh we will!
Thanks for the tips 😊
Any time!
Great video! I transplanted my Limelight last Fall and this year the blooms are really small, any idea why?
Let it get it's little roots in the ground. We have a few panicles that have tons of flowers but they are a little smaller this year too.
I hope Proven Winners provides a couple of those mini macrophylla varieties to the garden nurseries near me soon. 🥰🌸🇨🇦
I hope so too!
I too love hydrangeas. What is the hydrangea at 22.37 I love the laciness and color of the blooms.
Tuff stuff!

Love it!
Great Video Guys. I cant wait to get my hands on the wee bit innocents. I have a few of those wee bit grumpy. Last year My buds got killed. This year I got flowers in their 3rd year. Would you cover those up if we got a late frost?
💯 bundle them up like precious babies
Thank you for such an informative video! Do you have any non-PW hydrangeas in your garden?
We do have a few. Our vanilla strawberry does very well. A few others haven’t been stars yet but we are working on them
Ty for the video 😊
🎉🎉
I am in love with Hydrangeas I would love to put some in an area of my property that gets quite a bit of afternoon shade it does get morning sun though I am not sure if it would be enough?
If it gets a good 4 to 6 hours of morning light, it should do fine. Look for an Oakleaf that fits the sizing of your area
Well you be trying the First Edition Eclipse hydrangea?
I don't think so. We really like the leaves, but the actual blooms are not our favorite.

@@growformegardening Thank you! Looking forward to it!
I love your videos❤ i am creating a container garden because of spqce issue but can u grow a pannicle in a container
Yes you can! Check out @chicagogardener , Bethany is amazing!
This is great! In your experience, is there a deer resistant variety?
Some may be more than others but we have seen them taste everything

If it isn't a rebloomer I would cut it immediately after the blooms fade. Cut back evenly so it keeps the tidy shape.

thanks for this very informative video, greatly explained! just one point is not yet clear to me: do hydrangeas arborescens NEED to be pruned? if i remember right, you said you do it in spring. how harsh would you do it?
I would say they do need to be pruned. At least 1/3 every year to maintain strength in the stems

Are the oak leafs deciduous?
Yes!

So many!! We have a few new ones in store too!
When is the best time to transplant
Definitely in spring or fall. I tend to like the idea of fall best so they wake up from the winter in their new home
My hydrangeas turn pink and brown too early, I'm in zone 6a
Some of ours did too. I think it was the warm spring getting them ahead of schedule!
