That's the nicest combined parade I have seen. Well done the Scots for this insight of 2 different units. Kiaora NZ.

It was nice to be clapped and cheered that day (I’m part of A Company just after 1:00)
Shame we were still turned away from most of the bars and clubs of Edinburgh on a night out.......
To quote Billy Connolly, “As welcome as a fart in a space suit”.

Whilst not the same as Colchester, Edinburgh is in effect, a Garrison Town. The pubs get worried when they hear that regiments are returning from ops and tend to stop groups of short haired lads from entering. Same happens in Inverness on occasions.

      Caledonia. Yes, Jack we've noticed!
To be fair, there's not much marching to be done when you're under the ice-pack for four months, in a sweaty, piss- and-body-odour-smelling tin can, never 100% sure if you will be called upon to do something indescribably horrific to try and prevent Armageddon.
You earn your rations that way, we earned ours in differently difficult circumstances.
And, as far as I know, you never are allowed a parade where those who believe in deterrence can give you a cheer for a grim job well done.

@Alexander Challis Interesting post. Alex, thanks.
I'm an ex-Para ( plus another regiment and one Corps in 11 varied and hugely enjoyable years) of the same vintage as yourself.although my only experiences of armour was a ride on the hull of a Centurion of 4RTR IIRC, and a short bash through the Canadian bust on an M113. The M113 was pretty "fumey" despite the big notice inside warning of CO poising hazard!
But it was MUCH better than walking with rifle and bergan!
The RTR ride was great, as it was on a frosty morning after a freezing night without sleeping bags, and being slowly roasted whilst sat on the engine vents was sheer bliss!
No experience of the C42 setsm but I would say this in defence of valve sets used during that period. You probably know this, but they were still used because unlike transistorised sets, they were much less likely to be burned out by the emf of a nuclear blast --which blast, thank God, we and the rest of humanity never experienced during the Cold War..
Respect to the Scots Guards, unlike their Welsh counterparts who had been too long committed to ceremonial duties, the SG certainly earned their rations on Mount Tumbledown. ( I never served in The Falklands, and it's easy to criticise from a safe distance, but SG were clearly, at that time, much fitter and able.)
Rest in peace all of them, all units and all combatants from both sides,

It's easy to spot the slackers who've wangled themselves into a cushy billet, from to real infantry men -they're the ones with their bellies hanging over their belts, and struggling to keep to the 140 per of The Rifles.
( To be fair, some of the ( thankfully few) podgy rifle men were obviously carrying injuries, and sometimes others certain jobs are so vital on ops (stores, sigs, transport, etc) that they have to attend to those duties first, no matter what, even if it means being chained to a desk for days.
Good to see Edinburgh giving both units a warm welcome home.

Bullshit, all the Scottish regiments were disbanded due to WESTMINSTER CUTS, Scotland will be better defended as a independent country, westminster does not care.

Care to comment? "SCOTTISH battalions to lose their historic names as one infantry unit cut in defence restructuring
SCOTLAND'S historic regimental names are to disappear under the Government's controversial defence cuts, along with at least one infantry battalion. " www.telegraph.co.uk/news/9251240/SCOTTISH-battalions-to-lose-their-historic-names-as-one-infantry-unit-cut-in-defence-restructuring.html

john parr your chat absolute shit the english have been cutting the size of historic Scottish regiments or have just completely disbanded them all together. I just don't understand how 55% of scots want to stay within a union that doesn't give a fuck about them or what they have contributed to this union. Stop being sheep and vote for a fully sovereign government that will have only your interests. Thank god my parents have enough sense and pride in their country to support independence. And who gives a shit about the queen she just represents an archiac system of divine rule.

Shes no our Queen and its no our Country. The throne of Scotland resides in Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish crown jewels are kept in a secure vault likewise. The last reighning King of Scotland was James the 7th King of Scots! Exiled in 1688. The Scottish Monarchy has been in Exile forever after. Your English Queen Elizabeth in the head of state by merit of the fact Scotland as a nation is a member state of the current British Empire as it was, she was never crowned Queen of Scots. She cannot reside within Edinburgh castle, she cannot sit upon our throne, she cannot so much as touch our crown jewels. When Scottish parliament is opened the first thing threw the doors is the Crown Jewels of the Kingdom and Nation of Scotland, your queen waddles in after the Jewels in attendance.
The true patriotic militant Scots were and are the Jacobites who fought over 50 years of warfare between 1689 and 1746 to reinstate the true and lawful Scottish Monarchy.
Your current Queen Elizabeth is the decendent of false usurpers who have no claim to the throne of Scotland far less that of England. Her direct ancestor who stole the throne was at the time 23rd in line to the throne solely of England and granted it for the sheer fact he wasnt catholic.
So in conclusion For Queen and Country means Fuck all to Scotland so you can take your false monarchy and shove it up your hole.
