Back in 2017 I watched one of your videos and it compelled me to give us secular music, TV, video games, everything. I spent about a month just watching sermons and reading the bible. Pretty soon I began to be very legalistic, looking down on others in the church - convinced I was the only one truly living a holy. I became so legalistic I thought animals talking in cartoons was immoral because it was unnatural.
Shortly after, I became depressed and filled with anxiety because all I had was sermons and bible readings to look forward to after work. I lost my joy and desire to even do those things.
I finally snapped out of it and realized I was placing requirements on myself not biblical, impossible to hold to, and I very much felt like a Holier than thou Pharisee.
I did grow closer to God as a result but I learned much study wearies the body and from then on I decided I didn't need to broadcast any of my personal convictions onto others nor should they do that to me.
What's biblical is biblical but I believe God will lead different people away from different things because he knows they can't handle things. Some people absolutely won't touch alcohol. Some people can't listen to secular music, even if there's nothing immoral within it.
Keep the plain things the main things and the main things the plain things. Too many people want to shape Christianity into their own theology and then force it upon others.
Follow the Bible, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Not someone's opinions on things.

so much truth in this. Some people, even myself believe the way to please God is by living and doing things you've done. I am starting to learn the best thing you can do is follow the commandments, put God first, pray, and build a relationship with him. Thats it, some people try to overcomplicate things

@@dannaaaaa344 I tend to stay away from those who say "I believe, I don't think, Christians shouldn't" because it's usually based on opinion, and a semi-relevant scripture that's somewhat vague but kinda sort could be used to prove their point. All that time I wasted, drinking and partying led me to hardcore alcoholism and heroin addiction. I lost my career in architecture, my recording studio and ended up going through divorce and living a life on the streets; sleeping in the rain and snow, in and out of jail, been stabbed and held at gunpoint (if not by cops then by other thugs and dealers) had to be revived from overdose and experienced a stroke from the neglect I put my body through with hardcore drinking and heavy drug use. I missed out on my sisters' marriages, grandparents funerals, and all sorts of family functions just to come home and witness my father die of a heart attack on the bathroom floor. Little did I know that all these events will bring me to repentance and give me an experience in life to better relate to those going through similar experiences and guide them to Lord Jesus Christ. Satan meant evil against me but God meant it for good in order that His name be glorified. (Gen. 50:20; You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.)

We look most like Him wearing a crown of thorns but the glory to come will far surpass even the best moments we've had here on earth. work on yourself one day at a time. We aren't immediately at the highest point of sanctification the minute we accept Christ, it takes time for us to grow through Him! Putting your faith in Christ alone through grace alone like it seems you have done since four years ago means you are saved and are not going to Hell. God's grace is shown if you are not able to mentally or physically do something, God doesn't condemn disability, rather excessive idleness out of something we are able to do, but don't care about and choose not to do. I too have clinical depression along with autism, PTSD and psychosis/schizophrenia - there are things that are out of my control that I have to rely on God to handle.
Can God heal both you and I in this lifetime, absolutely! But does that mean that he will choose to do it, maybe not - but we will be fully healed in Heaven!

Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment. Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun." (Ecc 9: 7-9)
"The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge." Proverbs 18:15
"And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made." Gen. 2:2
Also, please note that if you're creating art, like composing worship songs, writing,... it's probably a requirement to spend time in entertainment, books, music etc. even if you're not paid for it. It will probably result in better writing and composing...

I think it is an encouragement to help us refine how we spend our time. The issue at hand is both a conscience issue, and it does vary from person to person. The goal of the video is to remind us these can be sinful tendencies of ours, and we always have to be reminded of truths like these to recalibrate our consciences because we so easily stray and become complacent in our sin and time-wasters. Also, we have no idea the spiritual maturity of the people watching this. There could be someone who is newly saved and this is their first time hearing something like this.

Christian’s should be hard workers with the most integrity, but the lifeblood of David was to dwell in the house of the Lord and gaze upon His beauty forever.

I'm not trying to make lame excuses, but I suffer from chronic pain, and sometimes I'm lucky if I can take care of myself some days, let alone doing other things around the house. I tend to be very slow because of my pain. I wish I could do alot more, but my body will only let me do just so much before I have to sit down and rest. Sometimes it hurts just to try and cook meals, and sometimes I haven't eaten because I can't stand up to cook. I feel bad that I can't do more. I don't even go out except to the bank to get quarters for my laundry.

Without a doubt hard but it's completely doable in Christ. Remember paul had afflictions and boasted in his weakness and reminded that the Lord is his strength. We suffer but its nothing in comparison to our eternal reward that is Christ. Cry out to him and push through the pain and when you think you can't remember he can! 23 years paralyzed from chest down also
      A body
With pain and it's the Lord alone who sustains. I know it can beat you down just know you aren't alone friend. Look up joni Erickson tada she's such a encouragement and so very well spoken concerning disabilities and being a laborer for the Lord. Praying the Lord guide you and strengthen you.

Something I struggle with is when work doesn't seem to accomplish anything meaningful. The Biblical truth is that we should work as serving Jesus, and that even slaves are rewarded for the work they do for Him, and so I'm not doing a pointless assignment to get a good number to get a job later, but instead am serving God, and the reward, if my heart is right, is from Him.
But man, it's hard to believe that in the moment, and so I get lazy, seeing no value in doing an assignment just to prove I can do what's on the assignment to get a slightly better number, and so I procrastinate until I can feel the weight of the possibility of failure.
If someone reads this, please pray for me to work as for God.

Hello. I hope you don't mind me bringing to your attention that while reading the Bible on my own, I've found that it never once says that Jesus is God. If you look for a plain scripture where Jesus says, "I am God," you will not find it. Nor will you find anyone saying "Jesus is God." The vast majority of churches in the world teach that Jesus is God, which according to my recent discoveries, is a doctrine based solely on interpretation. That's very dangerous, especially since God says he will not share his praise and glory with another (Psalm 42:8).
Remember, this is Satan's kingdom we're in right now, and I believe this is the enemies booby trap under the church waiting to go off at judgment. Look at 2 Peter 1:1-3... "just as there will be false teachers among you, who will subtly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them... many will follow their shameful ways, and because of them the way of truth will be spoken evil of... they will exploit you with false arguments and twisted doctrine."
"Denying the Master," how? As shown above, by taking the glory and praise due to God and placing it upon his Son, and exhalting him as God when he's a man like you and me, who has the same God and Father as you and me (John 4:22, John 20:17). To say again, detracting from the work of who and what Jesus is and did, which is his rightful glory, and putting God's glory as Father and creator on Jesus. This worship is causing the Son to eclipse the Father.
Jesus never said "I am God." We shouldn't put words in his mouth.

They are more likely the 20% who do 80% of the work, who don’t need to hear they need to be “doing more” or they are lazy, and worse yet, displeasing their Savior.
Burnout in the church is rampant. Willing souls with tender consciences who have a hard time saying no are being guilted into carrying heavier burdens than they can carry. Overworked pastors are resigning in despair. I know you meant well. But I’m afraid your intended audience is not going to listen. Instead, the harassed and helpless are going to push themselves even further down the rabbit hole of “works” sanctification.

One, Baxter's life in the 1600's is not 2024. Second, It's easy to become legalistic rather than from the heart when it comes to practicing religion. And third, our earthly bodies were not meant to last forever. I'm going to be 59 in 29 days and though I have been disciplined in treating my body and mind, I cannot stop the inevitable. God is sovereign and allowed suffering to get my priorities in order. I am not a Paul or Baxter but God can use me to accomplish whatever He desires and I am to be faithful in obedience with my time, talent, and treasure for His glory.

God works hard so we have to work as hard as we can. Hmm..God is all powerful, so naturally we should all seek to become as powerful as we can too, right? Is it a Christian mandate to go to the gym and start lifting? This isn't a valid type of reasoning. This is what happens when you try to make laws based upon your own personal philosophy instead of simply teaching scripture. It's not that there isn't scripture saying that we should work hard, but there is also scripture that says it's good to relax and enjoy the fruits of our labor. What about working smarter instead of harder?
Even if your overall point is "don't be lazy, sloth is a sin", and that's a Biblical point to make, you should be showing how that point is based on God's word instead of simply presenting it as a video that seems to be based on nothing more than your own personal philosophy. Many of your points are something that if you simply took the whole "God" bit out would fit right into a secular life-advice video. This is how some Christians start giving wild takes like how Doug Wilson teaches that husbands are guilty of the sins of their wives. Except, Doug does this not just based on his personal philosophy but he will also quite unrelated verses as if they teach his point somehow.
Start with scripture, exegete the text, and go from there.

You mentioned lifting weights. Some people might see that as vanity and sinful. Why do you really lift weights huh? You don't like the way God made you look?

Where do those with the inability to live up to these standards fall? Physical and mental disabilities along old age, all play a part in your ability to do anything, let alone these standards. This is an honest question because i have all of these issues in my family, and i do not believe they are any less Christian because they literally can't be what you explain.

What do you mean "live up to these standards?" I don't see too many standards being applied here, other than admonishing us not to waste time. I do see a lot of time-wasting activities being called out. The key, as always, is proper discernment. I heard him say things like, "Don't spend so much time on your phone scrolling social media." There is no physical or mental disability that requires a person to spend oodles of time scrolling social media. None. Anyone can meet that "standard."
He emphasizes several times the word "NEEDLESS" in front of the activity in question. If the activity is NEEDFUL for you, then it's fine. Do it. If it's NEEDLESS, then it's not. Don't do it. I recommend watching the video again, and be careful to listen to what he's actually saying. I challenge anyone to claim that scrolling Instagram for an hour a day is a needful activity in the life of a Christian.

@sidwhiting665 No, i dont need to watch again. i asked a simple question and got a negative answer. I am not interested in arguing with you because my question wasn't negative, and you don't seem qualified to answer in a kind way. Is this your idea of treating others the way you want to be treated? I was not being disrespectful i only wanted genuine answers without negativity. I can only assume you will answer back in a negative way to defend your honor, so just know i will not correspond with you any further. Have a great day 😀

Todd application is to those who are willingly lazy even if they physically and mentally able to manage their time and activities in moderation. If someone with physical and mental disabilities are unable to do so due to those limitations, then Todd's message isn't applicable in those situations.

After seeing this video, I actually found that I was quite fortunate to not follow that group of fellow brothers and sisters to a skewer shop at 11pm.
I went there with six fellow brothers one night in July 2023 for dinner at around 7:30pm, and we spent an average of a whopping HK$189 per person, which also included a few big bottles of beer. I had my first shot of beer that night. (A typical dinner in HK is usually HK$70-80, in my university canteen it's HK$40-50)
I have a quiz on Saturday, and had I joined that group I would have gotten quite a few shots at the worst time possible, which made me not studying well for God's own purpose.

So doing things that are not sinful or even worldly is a problem?

    • @user-hj4uo7py5m
      @user-hj4uo7py5m 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

The bible says the Lord has given to each one of use "a measure of faith" that is we all have different levels of faith , some greater than others. He deals with us differently. Bible also says "to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin" meaning when we feel convicted about anything we do throughout our day , and if we go against that conviction it is a sin . 1 example is some Christians believe that they aren't allowed to wear jeans, while others find no issue with it. That is because God simply gave them a conviction. Is it wrong to wear jeans? Not necessarily, but it can be when worn with the wrong intentions such as wearing them to show off your body. That would then be considered sin because you are doing it with the intent to make others stumble including yourself. So back to your question, God will judge you based off the intent to why you did what you did and if you deliberately ignored his voice of conviction to not be at a certain place , or do certain things that may cause you to stumble. Now don't beat yourself up if you do stumble because you have a savior already who will help you but to deliberately shun Gods voice can be dangerous to our spiritual health if not looked at with urgent care. Which is why it's important to learn to grow so close to the Lord that your sensitive to his voice wherever you go. God bless

Thanks for your response. The answer is there is no problem. So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. For if it is in faith it is not of sin and if it is not sin or worldly there is no problem.

Maybe some fellow Christian will see how much time you spend and want to take you aside for an intervention to discuss it. Some might like that happening to them, but I've found to be wary of getting too close to other Christians because with many, there gets to be a point where they begin trying to control what you do or expecting you to explain to them why you do what you do. Like getting too much sleep, as in this video.

@@holbrookpWho can say what is too much sleep? I ask that as an insomniac. I used to feel guilty for sleeping when I was younger, back when I was able to sleep. Now I know sleep is not a luxury. I’d give almost anything for a good night’s sleep.
