God used the Gospel of John movie to draw me to Himself. I can't believe it. In 2013 my parents were watching the movie and I walked through the room and heard one verse, "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him." It scared the daylights out of me and made me realize I didn't know what the Bible said. Three days later, I watched the DVD myself and God brought me to repentance and faith in Him.

O my what a wonderful testimony! Thank you
See how powerful the Word is! His word created the world. He leaves us His written Word, a book of love & instruction to encourage & protect us. And Christ IS the Word in the flesh
He said heaven & earth will pass away but my Word remains forever! So what could be more important. Please reader pick it up & just read Matthew out loud and feel the bad stuff go away in the presence of that power.💖 Love from GreatGramma.

And also "Flywheel" by the Kendrick Brothers. About a corrupt auto salesman who didnt have time to spend with his kid and rip off his customers until one day he became converted through the gospel preached, he sought forgiveness and try to make it right with the customers he ripped off and also paid off or canceled the car debt balance that a single mother with kid undergoing financial hardship didn't expect and was grateful.
He transformed his auto business. One of his co workers chose to quit on him and join other car dealership that continues to rip off people.
He would not give up and close to the end the customers rallied and gave him support because he was honest. He started having more time with his kid.
What a movie. Flywheel is a must-see!!! Moving.

I should add Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of the Christ' to this litany of edifying films. I am no Roman Catholic and furthermore I found the film brutal to watch. I have viewed the film twice, with a very necessary several year break between the first and second viewing. Yet, there has been no film I have ever watched that has quite brought home to me the absolute horror that the Christ endured, for the salvation of my underserving soul.

@@accousticdecay For the most part it is a beautifully done film, well-acted by the principles, with a haunting film score. The characters are talking in Aramaic, the language of Jesus, with English sub-titles to give it authenticity while being intelligible. The worst part of the film was when Jesus was being 'scourged' ie. whipped with a cat-o-nine-tails which literally ripped the flesh from His body. It was pretty horrific to watch. One could fast forward through that scene, and they would not really miss any meaning of the film.

I'm glad to see The Nativity Story up near the top. I never went to see it in theatres because I find most "Christian" films lacking. Most have a heaping helping of cheese. However, one Christmas four years ago, I gave in and watched it. I absolutely loved it!!! It really made you realize just what Joseph must have gone through. No cheese, just great acting.
I noted with interest your omission of The Passion of the Christ. I have a love/hate relationship with that film. While I find it excellent in some respects, and especially love that it was an attempt to be ultra accurate, even down to Mel wanting it to be in the original language with subtitles (which I would have loved), I find I cannot go back and watch the entire film over again because of the violence, and the film puts too much emphasis on the physical suffering of Christ, without the context of what it meant.
My last comment is about Fireproof. Let me first state that I have massive respect and admiration for Kirk Cameron and his sister. I love them, but honestly, this was one of those Christian films with far too much cheese. You can see it in the clip you showed. The acting, the dialog, the cinematography....? Not sure which is responsible... Maybe a bit of all of it, I am not sure, but the end result doesn't feel natural. It feels forced and cheesy.... Like it's trying too hard.
Pretty good list. I think I will revisit Ben Hur. While I don't feel like an actor portraying Christ is breaking the second commandment, I do agree that there is a certain power in the director not showing the face of Christ. It really makes that scene.
    That's my thoughts.
    Happy New Year everyone!!!

"A Hidden Life" the story of Franz Jagerhutter. Martyr. "Bonhoeffer" ( 2003 ) I cannot quite handle portrayals of Jesus, as in "The Gospel of John" or "The Visual Bible". It's impossible for any actor even with modern film techniques to capture His essence, as sincerely as it may be attempted. It is always less than the reality. Awkward. But I will concede that they have a place. And, how about Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ"? Stunning. Profound.

They may be produced with good intentions, and they may be of very high quality, but I have been guilty of watching them in the past. And I must confess that I have broken the second commandment many times, ironically offending the God who died for me. Father forgive me, for I knew not what I was doing.

The actor portraying Jesus in Ben-Hur died recently. He was one of the last cast members, was 96 or so, a very tall Mormon operatically trained singer.
It's not a sin to portray Jesus, but to portray Him inaccurately.... I pray for Willem Dafoe.

Dear Brother Wretch! Spot on with # 1's!!! Anytime someone asks me to recommend a movie about Christianity, I pick one of those two, if not both of them. As a family, we've been watching them for years and I have used them to personally evangelize many people who wouldn't listen to me, until after seeing them. Powerful tools! Keep up the great Kingdom work. Merry CHRISTmas! Love ya bro! >

How about "I Heard the Bells"?
It was very well done. From the acting, to the cinematography, to the story line, just an all around great film.

I love Fireproof. Watch it often. It starts rough but ends beautifully.

I think Home Alone has a good christian message when he's sitting in church with the old man.
