    Flemings are wonderful yachts, I have subscribed to Mr Flemings YT channel, an incredible man with an incredible life, very inspiring!
    This is the kind of yacht I would love to have If I had a house on the West Coats in the Vancouver B.C. Area. Many of Mr Flemings personal journeys were in that area and those videos are breathtaking.

      I would look at the other larger communities than Vancouver to move here. Near 1 mill for a 2 br condo in the Lower Mainland / GVRD / Metro Vancouver area. Add the 2.6 mill US for a new 55 and near a grand a month to have her in a marina.

      @@jaquigreenlees - Whatever you do, don't anybody move to Vancouver Island. You'd hate it here. Especially the boating - lonely coves with no friendly teens on jet skis, solitary anchorages with no ambient beats from bow rider boom boats*, deep water and tall mountains, waaaaay to many trees, and on and on...phew... boooooring! Stay home!
      * we do have boom boats, but they're for pushing logs. Big logs. You'd probably just hit one of them.

    Beautifully solid functional vessel - so old-school you wouldn't be surprised if Nick bumped into Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn bickering in a cabin.

      Very much so, though under the skin they have been in constant development, this one may look very similar to a 20 year old 55, but they are so different. With that said, I love the look of them.

  • @jaquigreenlees
    @jaquigreenlees 4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Nick you missed some features in this tour.
    The cabinet to port as you enter the salon is a bar.
    The queen bed in the master has 2 features you didn't mention, you can grab the foot and pull toward yourself, pulling the head of it away from the head board making it easier to change the bedding. In the hanging locker is a switch that will lift the bed on gas pistons giving access to both a large storage and the bow thruster. The ceiling has a vent / escape hatch ( topside between the seats in the fore-deck area.)
    The press release latches on the side of the electric panels in the pilothouse actually allow the entire panel to swing open on hinges making it a lot easier to access for replacing wires or switches.
    Stateroom layout options, you can have a queen in the port side stateroom with that same upper bunk that was just under the porthole. You lose the pullman bunk, since that entire wall becomes cabinetry including a desk space. This layout is commonly called a VIP guest suite.
    You didn't find their standard trash compactor, though the wine cooler and ice-maker were also not pointed out.
    The storage area under the cockpit boat deck ladder is usually a livewell or icemaker / cooler, with a chest style deep freezer being an option.
    The teak decking can be opted out for either non-skid or new-teak, another resin teak decking material.
    The bit of teak decking just in front of the couch seating on the port side of the flying bridge was the hatch for the dumb waiter.
    Both just inside the cockpit - swim-step access and on the fore deck are both fresh and raw water wash down points.
    The redundancy you mentioned is an important thing in a vessel meant for being cruised for months or years.

      @@manosparavida3551 Most of that I got from Captain Steve of Boattest.com.
      About the only error in Nick's tour, it was to short to put the details into it. If he had put a 20 or 30 minute video together he would have had the time to show all features a Fleming has. Boattest put out 2 10 minute videos, one on performance and one just going over layout and features. They often do that for boats you can live on.

    Absolutely my dream boat. Thank you for the tour Nick.
    The Tony Fleming videos on TH-cam are inspirational if you like adventure cruising to the high arctic, Alaska and other brilliant places.
    The 55 is all the boat anyone could need, I would only change the hard top to a bimini to reduce weight up top even more, and would probably use the third cabin as a ship's office as Nick suggested.
    In comparison to the Nordhavns, Flemings look low, sleek, classic, and have a bit more oomph in the engines to get out of trouble when needed.

  • @OhTheGeekness
    @OhTheGeekness 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    One of the things I like about Flemings is that you can run them at displacement speeds and have great range or burn some fuel and move along pretty quickly. It gives you options in so many ways. They obviously make quality boats or they would not sell so well.

    Love seeing these classic looking boats! Glad you show boats of all sizes and types and not just the "super yachts" and ones that require a crew and captain to operate. You still do the best boat reviews by going into such detail as the way cabinets and drawers look inside and operate, which could be important for people to consider when thinking of storage and layout, and you show the operations of controls and displays. Most other boat reviewers simply point the camera around and say "they have cabinets around here and wardrobes on this side...those doors over there slide shut...here's what the control console looks like....,"etc,etc, and just kinda give you the same image you could see in a magazine picture advert, and randomly walk around. You give the "flow" of the boats layout and keep the videos interesting and it makes me want to watch your reviews of boats that at first glance I wouldn't even consider because it doesn't look like my "style" of boat. Keep the great Vlogs coming! Would love to see some of the new catamaran hulls that are out, and some solar and sail powered boats!

      @@AQUAHOLIC Would also love to see luxury Houseboat reviews! Not the floating houses people build, but ones like manufacturers 'Bravada', 'Adonia' and other boat/yacht makers are doing. There are some we've had around here in KY that are so big they've had basketball courts and helicopter landing pads on top of them, and some are 3 stories tall (Adonia makes a beautiful 3 story)! They may not be for high seas travel, but we have taken them all the way from Kentucky to Florida using the rivers, and have gone from Texas up the coast to Virginia in a 60' Carri-Craft Catamaran! I think a lot of your viewers would be surprised at how luxurious they can be!

      @@AQUAHOLIC True enough, I was thinking more about how limiting the dealerships to just local when you are seriously looking to buy will often severely limit your options.
      an early 2000s Fleming 55 for around 500k US in Maryland, or the 2.2 mill US for the one you toured.
      maybe accommodations are set up different, outlets for electrical service* or the electronics need changing, but really, the core is the same for all Fleming 55s.
      * switching the outlets to fit local needs isn't a difficult job, most people can handle moving a few wires to/from 240 to/from 120 and the actual outlet change.

    • @tonybazz53
      @tonybazz53 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s unlikely you could generate enough solar energy with just the two panels fitted on the fly hardtop to supply the boats daily energy needs. Nonetheless though, I would still do it anyway.

    Any chance of a fleming 78? They seem to be quite rare.

    The amount of times I tune in and realise you've been wandering around where I work and I still haven't run into you yet!! Will keep an eye out...nice review. I've walked past that boat and often wondered what it was like inside

    Great tour as always. What a beautiful boat. I love the laddered access from the pilothouse to the flybridge. Some fantastic touches on this boat. The range in nm is substantially lower than a full-displacement Kadey Krogen of similar size.....expect to get 5000nm from a 55 KK boat as opposed to the 2000 something of the Fleming but the top speed of the semi-displacement Fleming is huge in comparison...and can easily out run a Tropical Cyclone...whereas in a KK you would be looking over your shoulder at 6 knots, but the sea handling would be much better in a KK. The narrow Saloon of the Fleming is outclassed by the full beam Kadey Krogen...but then you don't get access on both sides of the boat in a KK... The engine room headroom is something like 5ft in the Flemming due to the shallow hull, the KK has standing room in the engine room. When you need to inspect the engines every two hours headroom could be a deal maker/breaker! They are both superficially quite similar and both very beautiful....the stuff of dreams!!

    Oldie worldy meets modern world, very nice and well thought out improvements of the base model. My kind of boat with a touch of yesteryear.
    Thank you for the tour, take care of yourself and stay safe. 👍👍👍🛥🛳☠🚤⛴🏴‍☠️🚢⛵⚓😎

    Nice boat; I do wish the cabins were a bit more roomy, but then...I'm not on my way out the door to buy one just yet, so I can look around a bit more. LOL Great tour as usual, Nick! And I'm glad that Maggie found a cozy spot to relax. Keep 'em coming!

    This is the result of what appears to be a hand crafted boat (yet isn't). The yacht bristles with "added" features and superb creature comforts. Then there's the sea worthy part and the vessel has enough equipment for most "crossings" with the rugged under pinnings to concur many a wave. In summary - WOW.

      Actually very much hand crafted by master boat builders in Taiwan. They do not try to build numbers of yachts per year. They build quality which is handcrafted to me.

    Nice boat. Just a little more classy than, say, a Nordhavn. This is the boat to have when you want to be at sea for extended period of time and don't want to have to worry about your boat losing 2/3s of its value in 5 years because it looks dated. The price is a tough pill to swallow, but otherwise a very secure vessel. Thanks Nick!
