  • As we’ve found with all Fleming Yachts, the 78 has a primary mission of accommodating an owner-operator and family members during an extended stay at sea, in comfort and safety. She is intended to be able to handle trans-oceanic distances at displacement speeds, however, with twin 1,550-hp MAN V12s, she can exceed 20 knots if desired.

    Very durable, stable boat, the fact that they sailed one of these thousands of nautical miles, under real ocean conditions proves the seaworthiness of this brand, no flashy design, but real world usefulness, my hats off to these people for building a quality product that they back 100%.

    Of all the imaginary yachts I want, I always come back to Fleming and this is a gorgeous boat, although I can’t see a reason for the conjoined crew cabins. Great review as always from Capt. Steve, cannot wait for the 85 enclosed flybridge review when that debuts, would love to see one with country kitchen with dark satin wood.

      Go to NautiStyles channel and look for the 3 part series on the Allseas92 2 30 minute episodes to show you all the features and then a 1 hour sea trials episode. I love fleming yachts and have watched every video about them I could find. But then I saw the Allseas 92 and fell in love with it. Of course at $9 million dollars its a “when I win the lottery” boat but hey I can dream lol
      Anyway it’s worth watching those 3 videos so check them out. Cheers

      I am fairly certain that a buyer can request that the connecting door not be put in if they want to remove the interior, room connecting option. The door is not structural making its removal simple. Like you, my wife and I always return to the Fleming after perusing other beautiful options. And there are some other gems out there to explore. The Fleming's hull speed is a big plus. Having two matching engines is a big plus. Tony Fleming's on-the-water journey offers unparalleled proof of the Fleming's capabilities in a wide range of conditions. I think I was sold when Tony swapped out the two engines to better its overall performance. For me, that spoke volumes to his/their commitment to pursuing excellence. The list of equipment swap outs and upgrades before and after the engines is staggering in that particular video that Tony showed.

    Incredible yacht! Everything looked overbuilt but the house batteries. AGM? Why not LiFePo4 (Lithium iron phosphate)? Why haven’t builders switched to 24v or 48v storage systems and dropping one of the two generators? The mains can charge the house batteries while underway if needed. With the correct setup the entire yacht could run on battery power at anchor. A Bering 77 can go 3 days on full battery’s and some solar to help out. Keep up the great videos!

    I would long for the day when trying to decide if a Fleming, Salene or GB Elution will be my pick for some long range runs. Really no comparison to Nordhaven but for me having that speed as an option is important. Fleming is about as nice as it gets for someone who likes traditional looks but mixed with a lot of experience in real world needs and technology.

    Modern technology has really made cruising in a yacht more comfortable. My house has less than a hundredth of the complexity of the systems on this yacht. Of course it also costs about a hundred times more than my house. O well, a person can dream!

    Hey Steve, nice job. Although, stop saying “hot water heater”. They’re “cold”water heaters - more commonly known as “water heaters”. If the water was hot it wouldn’t need heating. The only folks who use hot water heaters are on aircraft carriers making steam for catapult launches.

  • @Falney
    @Falney 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can't remember which boat manufacturer does it, but for the hydraulics, one feature I have seen that I really like is putting the pumps on the generators using a clutch instead of on the engines. That way if an engine fails, you aren't without hydraulics.

    I wonder if the top deck roof could be lowered so that this boat could be used for the Great USA Loop. A 5 foot draught sounds like it could just do it. Does anyone know what the air draft would be to the top of the fly deck windscreen. To do the Erie Canal you need to get under a 17 foot bridge.

    Looks to be a typo in the NMPG at 8.7 knots. It is showing the same NMPG as the faster 11 knot cruise but with 700 more NM range?

    • @marklong8608
      @marklong8608 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just thought the same thing, my calculations says it's 0.67 NMPG at the 8.7 knots.

    • @BoatTEST
      @BoatTEST  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BoatTEST numbers are correct. The problem is that when you look at gallons that are only carried to the 100th place, this is not nearly precise enough to get an accurate range number. Look at the LPH and NMPL, which is a much finer measurement, and you will see, that the numbers come out to virtually what we have
      - the difference being in rounding errors. Our computer is programed to make these measurements has precise as realistically possible. -BoatTEST

    • @brianstone3972
      @brianstone3972 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BoatTEST thanks but I'm still not understanding how you can have the same efficiency at the two speeds in terms of mpg but be able to go 700 miles farther? On your website, the test results show 0.4 NMPG at 11 knots for 1,102 NM range and 0.7 NMPG at 8.7 knots for 1,804 NM range. So basically the NMPG at 8.7 knots shown in the video is not correct.

    • @BoatTEST
      @BoatTEST  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@brianstone3972 Thank you Brian and Mark! You are correct, we made an error when the video was made and put in the graphic the wrong number for the NMPG at 8.7 knots. It should have been .7 instead of .4 which obviously can’t be the same as the fuel burn at 11 knots. This was a proof reading error for which we apologize. Thanks for bringing it up to our attention. We will fix this on our website right away. ;) We love it when the community comes together. Kind Regards, BoatTEST

    What an absolute porker this boat is. 4x the fuel burn of an elling e6, down to 3 times. This is a tired, old style GRP construction. Time to get with the times and modern, lighter construction.
