This is closer to a Flying Car concept than Terrafugia. This thing wants to be driven, but can fly if it has to. The Terrafugia (and AreoMobile) are meant to fly, but can be driven if they have to. Hence, they are Roadable Airplanes. Big difference.

But this is a properly functioning machine that borrows (I think) from the excellent Carver road machine as well as the generic gyroplane. The unfolding prop, rotor and empennage are properly impressive! Yes, I *can* see some rotor-related shake in flight, but that often happens in early development models. Well done, guys.
look mate! I saw it on the race track going fast. The "switch-blade" is another similar project that will have retractable wings instead. They have completed the basic 3-wheeler (similar to this) and it was doing broad-sides at speed and no problem. Obviously for normal road use, it would be safe. And there are other 3-wheelers (just land vehicles) that corner really well cos they tilt. I know 2-wheels at the front is (inherently) more stable, but the tilting compensates, with these.
$300,000 is a bit high. You need to bring it down if you want to sell many of them. I could build a prototype for that price. In production this wouldn't be an expensive item to manufacture and would probably sell really well for about $50,000.
I bet you could make one in China for the numbers you mention and still have it profitable. They would need the prototype of course, and then they would steal your design and sell knock-offs all over the planet.

Not sure it's a gyro copter. Note the rotors start rotating before the copter is moving. A gyro copter has a free spinning rotor (air flow over the rotor causes it to rotate), it's not powered, this craft seems to power the rotor. That could just be a means for a shorter takeoff. Also the landing is almost in a hover, something else you can't do with a gyro copter, hover.
Steve Laminack Actually - there used to be commercial passenger gyrocopters that would seat as many as fifty people. The rotor would be given an initial spin by way of disposable rockets at the rotor blade tips.
Just love it when people make comments on things they know nothing about. True gyro planes are safer than other aircraft, why? They're always in auto-rotation, if you lose your engine they just gently come down. The blades on all gyro's need to turn a little before forward speed takes over. On small gyro's you can just reach up and spin the main rotor by hand, on the bigger ones like this you need a small electric motor to get it to turn initially before forward speed takes over. End of class!
Very cool invention. But I would mount the tail rotor longitudinal so that the car/helicopter could stand still in the air and/or land e.g. on the roof of a house or on a yacht.

This is an autogyro. It is not a VTOL. Autogyro needs runway to increase speed and wind to raise the aircraft.

$300,000 is a bit high. You need to bring it down if you want to sell many of them. I could build a prototype for that price. In production this wouldn't be an expensive item to manufacture and would probably sell really well for about $50,000.

Helicopters can't fly much more then 300 miles on one tank of gas, and the Atlantic is more then 3000 miles across.
