The military has many planes with foldable planes. Especially on the air craft carriers. The need them to fold to save space. You can get some real ugly crosswinds when you’re at sea.
I hope this happens sooner than later. The experiment looks too big though but it'll improve once it hits productions. I wonder if the major car companies are working on the flying car concept?
this looks epic, i'd want one if getting a pilots license didn't cost as much as the plane would, also i can see how this is a really cool design, it would allow faster travel between airstrip, and then fold up and go to anywhere you like without needing a taxi, then once you're done you can just go and fly back home to your local airstrip, and since you can fill up at a gas station this would work anywhere, this is an awesome design, but this would probably end up being more deadly than driving a car ever would, just a little bit of bad weather and things might not go well, also if a bunch of people did this, then i'd imagine it would be a nightmare just like triffic on the freeway plus we'd always have to worry about people falling out of the sky if they forgot to refuel, or any number of things, this is a cool concept for the rich man, but for most i think this would be an extremely dangerous thing in the hands of common people
A car- paramotor combination could actually be the most feasible. It might not be fast in the air, but it is no exotic Engineering. And it's much more affordable.
I really wouldn't constitute this as a flying car in futuristic-what-we-imagined-in-movies-and-media sort of way. This is basically a hybriad car/plane. I think when most people thinking about flying cars they picture a car hovering over the road in a manner that was similar in The Jetsons or film, The Fifth Element. Even though this wasn't what I was expecting, I believe this is a step closer in making many of our dreams a reality. :)
What matters is practicality. A plane that can be driven is much more practical than a car that can hover. If it can launch from any relatively flat surface.
