Once again, our alleged "expert" doesn't bother to give anything vaguely resembling a "fact".
No engineering points. No logical arguments. No business points. Nothing quantitative. Nothing rational.
The key criticism is that is is "fuck'n ugly" repeated about a hundred times.
Ugliness is subjective. It has nothing to do with expertise.
Again the preoccupation and obsession with what people earn or don't earn.
Didn't even hold one or wear one. Like a kid doing a book report who hasn't even read the book.
I have an Alpinist, SARB 017 and like a large number of other people I find it extremely beautiful. Its tough, yet dressy, made with beautiful quality control and looks amazing.
As for the "jungles of New Guinea" question, as an overtly sedentary guy screaming obscenities into a microphone, do you know much about jungles? The question has a brief and simple answer; for a jungle, Casio G Shock is the most water/dust/shock/corrosion resistant utterly reliable watch on Earth, so if you need it to go through hell with precision, it is the only logical choice. Go ahead. Ask the Aus SASR what they issue. A unit that wears over 30k of equipment and body armour, and has a choice of 5 different sniper rifles....ask them what they wear on their wrist. By all means, go ahead and hate the Alpinist, but give a few rational reasons. You want people to quote "donate"???? You are not a charity. Do you feed homeless children? Do you assist the elderly? Are you working on a cure for cancer? or do you scream abuse into a microphone without doing any fucking homework on any level, making the rest of us in Australia look like fucking wankers.
As for Paul/Archie and a generation of watch snobs quoting and comparing everything to a Rolex, thats just mass bandwagon jumping. Switzerland has over a hundred watch companies, most of which are interesting and many of which are awesome. When do any of these youtube guys compare anything to a Vacheron Constantin? 100+ companies in Switzerland, at least half a dozen really amazing ones I've dealt with in Germany, the half a dozen big players in Japan, who give awesome value for money, and behind the spontaneous and sickeningly ubiquitous anti-Chinese prejudice, if you look hard enough you can find awesome Chinese skill levels. But no no no...everything is measured next to a Rolex and judged on price level but very little else. To me functionality and design relative to purpose are issues. Rolex? Who is going scuba diving with an 8000 dollar watch? You all put your noses in the air about "fakes" , but there is another "fake" issue. A generation of guys wearing divers, who do not dive, wearing aviation watches....who are not pilots, and field watches for those who have never done military service. Compared to a Jeager LeCoulture, a Rolex is a SHITTER.

Excellent comment! Only one problem with wearing a G-Shock in the jungle tho: You'll probably be using an insect-repellant with a chemical known as DEET. DEET will melt the plastic parts of a G-Shock.

It was so entertaining and I am pleased to know that Archie cares about aesthetics so much (never mind those warts). Still, the Alpinist retains it's proud place in my collection.

Mine too! My 1st JDM. A wonderful watch that has apparently doubled to tripled in value now in early 2021. The new one with the cyclops just doesn’t do it for me at $700 to $800 a pop. I got my watch (exactly the one Sir Luxury lamented) for about $379.00_Amazon_about 4 years ago. GBU

Just bought one and it's fucking beautiful !! I fucking love it !!!
I had one of these, not the green face Alpinist, but the other black dial SARB watch just like this but with a bracelet, and the case was a little small for me, so I sold it used and got twice what I paid for it. In the meantime, the price went crazy on it, so I made out.
Enjoyed that while wearing my green turd.
