- More 1/10 scale off-road goodness from FMS, here’s the new Toyota FJ40 found here: bit.ly/3QHPLBp This exciting new release from the scale detail masters may be one of their best releases yet. The body first up is licensed! Next up its a factory painted ABS plastic and it has so many features like opening hood, doors, tailgate, roof rack, vinyl front seats, cloth rear seats and even a steering wheel that turns. They’ve mounted the body to their standard 1/10 chassis that they’ve used on other models, but was that a good idea? See how this new rig looks and handles as Greg walks you through the kit.

Really nice TLC! Looks great without the top.
oh boy, those fms models are something else!
Agreed!!
FMS is really killing it with the detailed releases. I'm thinking about picking this up also and most likely get a leaf spring kit. The 1 thing that really surprised me was the lack of inner fenders which I thought was odd seeing how well they go for that scale look.
I really hope the future of brightness shines our RC world. FMS is really good at this, I hope their company spread all over the world to provide a good budget scale rc
No doubt their future is bright. They’re doing amazing thing’s especially considering they’re still thought of as a newer company in the RC world.
I bought the FMS 1/6th scale Jemny . I did a lot to it . RC4WD front and rear diffs , Made my own leaf springs . RC4WD trans cases . Body tair down and paint , Lights in dash , 3-D printed 4 cylinder engine . Exhaust that smokes and sound . Yes I did a lot of cool stuff and did away with the junk stuff . Servos , Reciever , speed controler . Shocks replaced with metal oil shocks . Replace rims and tires with metal rims and M/S Narrow tires . Now it looks like a real Jemny .
Honestly this is one of the rare cases where friction shock don't seem like a bad choice. The bounciness and body roll adds to the scale realism imo. Definitely not a rig optimized for performance, and with the wide variety of aftermarket suspension available, there's lots of options to get this thing performing as the individual driver would like. Also helps to keep the pricetag low
Oh I absolutely agree it looks better when going after that scale crawl look. But how long does that actually last? 5-10 minutes before getting bored and wanting to go for a trail driving walk to the next spot? This is one truck I wasn’t able to drive from one “scale driving spot” to another at this park. I wasn’t expecting performance, just standard drive-ability. Luckily like you said it is an easy fix with an option I get to choose.
Just another future cost. The rc industry is full of money hungry scum that cut corners.
Absolutely agree with you. I would love just trailing with it and watching it roll. There’s a ton of options out there for performance.
Exactly what I was thinking - It looks as bouncy as it feels when driving (bouncing) in my 1:1 !
Agreed. Slow the vid playback to 50%, and it looks amazing. While I might swap to some oil units, I'd want to keep it light and springy... and maybe ditch the roof rack.
And it's so realistic that you feel the same panic you'd have crawling a fully-restored restored 1:1 FJ. Just think of it as a more-scale experience, rather than flipping and bouncing your lexan rig all over everything, with no care.
Absolutely amazing machine. FMS is adding what I have felt is missing from rc vechiles as a whole which is realism. Traxxas goes through the trouble of creating real looking bodies without it really being all that scale. No interior, no opening doors, in many cases no real windows even. If you are going through all of the trouble of creating something that looks like the real thing then go all the way and add those features otherwise no need for a scale looking body because it is not a true scale vechile. This one and others that FMS makes have addressed those issues and then some. I will be buying one of these in the near future and appreciate this excellent review!
Thanks for the great video as always, really helps to make buying choices.
Woow 😮one of the best RC I’ve ever seen ❤
wow, mind bogling
I'm hoping there available next week!! I have the RC4WD model 1st gen from 3.5 years ago. I'm excited for this model!!!! I grew up in a 67 fj and man oh man. My dad's getting one 1st then me. Excited 🎉🎉🎉🎉
i love fms going bigger , the quality is great. fpv with head tracking ,can't wait for it to come
It's really nice but to clean and shiny, think it would look fantastic with some weathering 👍👍😎
I love the weathered look. But the way this one is finished out of the box, it just begged to me to stay pristine.
Classic Toyota FJ40 is almost a home run at the ball park! (A-)😄👍
Very good job from FMS and a very good job on your videos.
Liking the desert yellow more👍 You said it best Greg, "A scale model you can drive."
It was a tough choice between the yellow and RC Driver blue. Happy I went with the yellow!
Have to disagree with his complaints of the shocks, I understand it’s not going to be a competition crawler but it really makes for some very realistic action. If you actually drive off-road vehicles you’ll learn that slow is the way to go, I understand the TRX4s and such have a very different feel to them but this is a scaler imho. I personally love the hardbody rigs but yeah they are very top heavy compared to the regular polycarbonate shells
Agree, they complain about the suspension but if FMS made it a top performing truck it would have to sell for over 500.00 bucks like Axial and Traxxas, and I have both and I still had to do modifications especially with Axial, at 349.00 it's a great buy and leaves at lot of extra money to make it your own 🙏✝️☮️🏜️
Wobble Wobble Wobble Wobble, it almost wobbles standing still lol, it doesn`t have damping, and it`s not about "slow is the way to go" he never went fast, it doesn`t GO fast.
It`s about constant wobbling at any speed.
What does TRX have to do with anything?
This one`s a scaler?
So is the TRX..
Nobody`s talking about the TRX or competition performance.
You`re making ZERO sense.
"please give it some damping" doesn`t mean "I want competition performance".
Definitely have to do the leaf spring conversion when it comes out. Awesome video !! 🤜🤛💯
Yes good idea, but at least it's not over 500.00 bucks like Axial and Traxxas. There's plenty of money left over to make it your own way.🙏✝️☮️🏜️
Looks awesome ! I wonder how it would perform with leave spring conversion
That’s a great looking rig. Great detail for the price.
gold yellow
Really like the scale details on this FJ but looking for first crawler. TRX4 (Land Rover) or SCX10 III Gladiator? I want to get in the mud and water (but not bashing or trashing it) and want lots of little add on details. What is the best base package and offers the most aftermarket gear? I also have Spektrum batteries for boat and planes so hoping to use existing 3s or 4s. Thank you for all the great videos!
너무 좋은 가격에 성능을 가진 제품이네요 좋은 리뷰 잘보았어요
Super happy they got the licensing this time. Excited to see what else they come out with. Alot of attention to detail on this fj40. Very detailed video, well done.
RC Orange..Nice
I need this. Would be a perfect mini me for my real fj40!
It’s massive!
Awesome. I just got mine
I’d put some F10t axles under it with some incision 80 mm shocks and a fusion pro, and then you’d have something special. Great video Greg!
Nice sharing❤
I really like the dried mustard color
Beautiful truck
Thank you for your video
My neighbor had two of these when I was a kid.I never seen them move from the driveway though.
Maybe the pin spring mod and heavier shock oil would help with all that sway.
Very good looking rig tho.
Thanks for the review.
My understanding is that the shocks are oil , but need to have oil added. It’s an amazing model that can be driven. Awesome video
How can I add oil?
Great video! Can I add
- Electric Winch
- Brass RIMS weight for the wheels
- sound system (engine noise)
Shocks are usually the first thing to be replaced. I'm ok with it! Great review.
Yup, when it comes down to it, it’s an easy fix.
If you love wasting money so much, you can give me some.
@@murrijuana2842 I guess you run all your RTR's completely stock and never upgrade anything. 👍🏽
Hi, where can I find a harder shock absorbers?. Thank you 👍🏻
Definitely needs oil shocks. Excelent vid RcDriver!
Where can I get them? 🙏🏻
Great video! Beautiful Truck! Quick question: Do you think as a quick fix, shock spring spacers would take some of that roll out?
Thanks! They did an amazing job on it. Shock spacers are actually used to adjust ride height. What you’d want to do is swap out the shocks with 90mm oil filled shocks to damp the suspension action.
The trx-4 battery will do?
Myself I would install leaf springs for a more scale look honestly I can't believe it didn't come factory with leaf's! Awesome video as always man.
It would have really helped if they did I think. Oh well, gives me something to tinker with. lol Thanks!!
Nice!!!! But does it come with the battery? If not where we buy it and what size battery is it?😢
Great review Greg but i gotta say looks very top heavy and the deal with no oil filled shocks i like it but it wouldn't be my first choice .Great review!!👊
The top-heavyness was so apparent anywhere I drove it and usually I don’t mind an RC getting beat up. But this model is so nicely done I couldn’t bring myself to harm it. So I made a big deal about it. But in the end it’s something that can be fixed and it’s a worthwhile release.
@@rcdriver I agree 👊
What is the recommended battery pack for this model? I bought one but battery was not delivered. Is that it?
hi, how to set up drag brake?
Oil shocks from the TRX4 and some class 1 size wheels with steel beadlocks will make this a winner.
Love the video and review, but as far as oil filled shocks are concerned, forget it! That’s exactly how a real one drives too.
Can this model be taken apart easily for a full paint job?
Next buy for sure.
Wow! A Dream come of mine come truth! A FJ40 in 1/6 scale !!! I‘m not so the MIGHTY RC - Builder… Changing Motor/ESC, Shocks , Tires/Rims , changing wearing out parts … Not more… the rest is pure fun to drive… 😊👍👍👍😎
Ooooh 1/10… sorry , i‘m wrong!🙈My 1/10 RC4WD FJ40 is top heavy too… the plastic cardan shafts … i‘ve killed them und minutes at my first run … i‘m not a basher😳…
I ordered the blue one!
Awesome! Prepare to be blown away by the finish. They did a great job on this.
Its perfect for scale runs it kicks a s s.
Was that little turquoise fj just a die cast or is it an rc too
Very fine, where is it possible to find LIPO and charger please ? Are Traxxas lipo OK ? 😀
@@ecr8044 I think you're right 😀
I will say that is one nice rig. Would have liked to see it next to a 1/10 of comparable models. If FMS does oil shocks for that I hope they are better then the crap ones they give us on the fcx line up. My blazer leaks like a siv no matter what I do.
Sounds like fms is a waste of money.
@@murrijuana2842you must not know what wasting is lol much rather have to upgrade some shocks which i would do anyway, than buy a 100 percent plastic not scale at all mainstream beginner rc like traxxas or most of anything else😂 also check the price these things are really cheap… can’t afford it then you definitely can’t afford traxxas or axial…..
They need a FJ60 and then they’re all set
Looks big for a 1:10 scale
FMS is killing it with their trucks! Love my mashigan
I do like yellow or the gold or the gold ,👍🤔
Great video, thank you. I've just ordered one thanks to this video. The battery that was recommended was an Admiral 5300mAh 2S 7.4V 60C Hard Case LiPo Battery with XT60 Connector.
Weight. 276g / 9.73oz Length. 138mm / 5.4in Width. 46mm / 1.8in Height. 25mm / 0.9in
Will it fit?
Enjoy! It’s certainly a great rig to look at! Off the top of my head, I think the narrow battery channel is 22mm. Not sure if the 25mm will work.
Thank you for your prompt response. It was recommended as the right one but now I'm worried. This is my first rock crawler.
I just watched tomly do the blue I gotta say the yellow is a lot more appealing. Cheers
I almost went with the blue because it matches my logo. But that yellow is really nice!
@@rcdriver that's vary true. Yes I have the 18 scale fj and this yellow looks similar I wonder if it's the same as the hummer yellow or is this more Burt yellow.? Love your channel btw.
А акамулятор и зарядка в комплекте есть?
You know? I’m starting to rethink this whole no oil in shocks with strictly trail rigs. This fms really looked good in the trail the way it moves.
It does. And for video it looks great. But in reality when you just want to hike along the trail at walking speed it’s too unstable to enjoy. I’d like an oil shock where I can throw 10wt in for the scale look stuff or 40wt in for trail hikes.
FMS did not supply o-rings like they do in other kits? FCX24 has 'em...
Dig it👌😋
Looks like it needs a hobbywing 1080 to get some crawl out of it
Any after market shocks fit this?
Yes. But a 1/10 scale should not come with friction shocks. It's ridiculous. You can fit Traxxas Trx4 shocks. Any 90mm oil-filled crawler shocks will work. Ebay has many different ones butt stick with name brands the cheap ones leak oil.
@@FarmerFpv I just measured mine (rear) and they seem to be 65mm (extended) and 48mm (compressed). I suppose you can use any shock you want to, but if you want to maintain stock travel and ride height (and use factory hardpoints), you might need to go with something shorter...
You're being a tad harsh on them with the shock thing, the truck is quite cheap in price and many change shocks just to cootie bust anyway, seem like a good move on their part, add stuff one can't easily make themselves and skimp on things they will prally change. I did get the leaf spring set too, like you say, it is not a performer, it is a trail queen, gona make it a more authentic queen, (my queens do have battle scars, can't rule sittin in a shelf.) Let's be real happy with some of the new stuff, for $400 you can get a rig that when I first started, cost $1500 , and still may not be as dialed in as some of the new RTRs
Hopefully, Amazon will be selling it
Ho..what size are the stock wheels. In inches? Are they 1.9 inches..?
Think it would be hard to paint?
Ordered mine and kept going back and forth with color, settled on yellow because ill probably add a blue later lol the addiction is real
Excellent starting color choice! Enjoy it when you get it!!
The problem is that the scale of this car is 1:7 and not the widely published 1:10!
Hi I'm interested in starting rc cars .I was wondering what is the best price point for starting out I built a little track. Thanks.
What kind of track? dirt? Are there jumps?
@@95666 It's dirt, there will be jumps in it. I'm in the beginning stage of it. It's kind of an oval with a couple diffor tracks inside of it.
@@kennethpotter6556 Any idea what scale would fit on it? Do you want to build a kit? maybe around $400 for a brushless 1/10 offroad with 2s lipo and basic charger.
@@95666 It's about 6 feet to 9 feet wide. There's no response in it, but I'm thinking. I'm ready to run truck to start with.
There is narrower spots in it. Yes i'm thinking one tenth scaperiod
I am a little seasick right now wathing that yellow😒🤪🥴jeep. But stil a nice car
I believe fms already corrected the oil shocks issue. You must’ve just gotten the first one. TomleyRC posted his review and his came with oil shocks.
Hmm 🤔 I disassembled my shocks. There was 1 drop of oil in them and no piston. Just a single e-clip at the top of the shock shaft to prevent it from pulling out. I can’t count the 1 drop of oil for lubricant as an oil damped shock.
@@rcdriver I 100% agree with you. Tomley didn’t specify how much oil was in them, he simply said they were very soft, so I’m sure his were the same way. Fms definitely needs to change that.
Shocks on Tomleys looked exactly the same as this. He probably just assumed they were oil filled, he's not exactly an in depth reviewer.
Man I would have to say that they are looking better than RC4WD with details and quality! Packaged real nice also and a lot cheaper than RC4WD. FMS slowly going to take RC4WD’s business ….
Price is dollar?Please replay
Put some gear on top and a small breeze will blow this over.Cmon Fms.Oil shocks. Body looks amazing though.
How this truck even made it out of the design stage with friction shocks blows my mind. There’s absolutely no reason to put that much detail into a scale truck and put those shocks on it.
It's unacceptable.
Look at the price tag on it thats why lol maybe get used to tinkering and replacing things and it won’t seem so crazy, look how expensive a nice set of aluminum shocks run…
What a joke having friction shocks on a 1/10 scale this gorgeous. C'mon FMS get with the program! You should put some TRX4 90mm shocks, I have them on my Mashigan and they work great.
I guess when it comes down to it every RC has a “What the heck part” on it. Luckily it’s an easy upgrade in our hobby world. I’m digging through my spares today for a shock swap.
What a joke an rc guy who is upset at changing shocks! Maybe you should find a new hobby if replacing parts for better ones is a struggle😂
I had a look online at the manual for this and it claims that they are oil shocks? 🤷♂️
They have a drop of oil in them to lubricate a friction o-ring. They’re not filled with oil, nor do they have a piston on the shock shaft, just a single e-clip.
Thanks for the update which is very much appreciated. The stock shocks seem fine for trailing which is what mines going to be used for so it’s all good. A bit of weathering and a change of wheels and it will look great. Nice channel by the way. 👍
Lol I’m deciding on suspension upgrade for my actual 1998 Toyota 4runner. Or a toy Toyota… a toy…. Yota….
I just wish they marked it as 1/7th scale that it is. That kinda bugs me as they are all about scale, but not acknowledging scale. Box says 330mm wheelbase, real Shorty 40s have near enough a 90' wheelbase, or 2285 mm , that's not 1/10 😉
I think scale in the true sense of a size comparison to full-scale went out the window a long time ago unfortunately. Now it just seems to reference the act of making the model “look” like it’s 1:1 counterpart.
@@rcdriver It's a shame. With the details that companies like FMS are putting into their products, having a thread of continuity even for display purposes would be appreciated. Though that true sense of scale never was here, if I'm going to be real. Tamiya, the scale plastic model company even had a 1/8 Hilux, along with a Ford 150 Ranger, the square body Chevy on the Clod and the Tundra and F350 all 1/12th ish all sold as 1/10. I mean, the F150 and a very 1/10 Baja Bug shared the same chassis. Twice! 😂
I am kidding lol
I think its 1/8
Rc4wd definitely snapped their neck
YELLOW BETTER, BCOZ TOMLEY RC ALREADY GOT BLUE FROM FMS😊👍🏼✌🏼
Not gonna lie, I had a choice and seriously considered the RC Driver blue. But that yellow grabbed my attention! 😎
I got it and looks amazing but why is so big. Looks to big compere my 1:10. they should scale it to the correct size of 1:10 and not 1:6 or 1:7. it is definitely too big. I think a lot of people decided not to buy it for this reason.
Can you just buy the body? Then put on a more capable platform.
Nah 😕
I wobbles more than Doanald Trump bobble head at a boxing match after being hit by Biden's punches .
Is this one actually 1/10? I know the "Mashigan" was called 1/10, but it was closer to 1/7.
Nice drive, Definitely needs Better shocks,, I can understand the frustration.👍🛻👏
They could make it more better and perfect and charge 600.00 bucks. 🤔But Honestly for 349.00 it's a great truck, you shouldn't be complaining, I can buy some oil filled shock, or the leaf springs. Allot of the big names are charging over 500.00 bucks and you still have to modify there trucks and there cheap Lexan bodies. Great truck FMS way to put out a good product at a good not over priced deal.🙏✝️☮️🏜️
