PS.....its always comforting to watch Big Agnes....RIP girl
I'm in Maine as you see. 69 years old. When I was 5,6,7 years old my dad would take my mom who had polio, sis, and me to a very remote lake. He would carry the aluminum boat, 5 hp Johnson, gas, food, cooler, big old canvas tent and my mom to the shore, load up the boat and go to a remote island on the lake for a week. They loved to fish.
In his last few years I tried to get him to go for a ride but never would leave his chair. He passed a few years ago and was cremated. When I went to pick up the carboard box with him in it, I put him in the passengers seat and said "there, now your going for a ride". He rode in my suv for a year until I figured where he would like to be. People would get in the truck and I'd pt the box in back, "what is that?" My dad. "No, really" yep, my dad.
Anyway I thought about the best years of his life. I concluded that the island was it. Young, wife, kids, fishing, camping. So I set out to find it 55 years later. Just by feeling, I drove right to it. 100 plus miles from my house. Launched the canoe and had a tail wind right to the island, a couple geese landed in front of me on the way. I spread his ashes on the island, reflected for a while, got in the canoe and to my surprise, had a tail wind right back to the launch. I think someone was telling me I did the right thing.
You were ... what a good story .. put a lump in my throat .. Thank you !!
It's always a rush of joy when I see you post, you always have a wild adventure!
have you ever wandered lonely through the wood?
and everything it feels just as it should
you're part of the life there, part of something good
if you've ever wandered lonely through the woods
ooooh
if you've ever wandered lonely through the woods.
have you ever stared into a starry sky?
lyin on your back you're askin' why?
what's the purpose, I wonder who am I
if you've ever stared into a starry sky
ooooh, aaaah, aaooaaooh
have you ever stared into a starry sky
have you ever been out walking in the snow
tried to get back where you were before
you always end up not knowing where to go
if you've ever been out walking in the snow
ooooh, aaaah, aaooaaooh, ooooh, aaooaaooh
if you'd ever been out walking, you would know

Your taste in music is second to none.
I'm sure you already said it but where is this, it's very nice country ide like to go there some day
Up in the Gila Wilderness SW New Mexico .. Thanks
Thank for taking us along real living
Hey loved the good night music Brett! We are like minded. Nothing like calm music to soothe the soul. Mr. Vaughn, Im half your age, but you “old heads” are the ones Id rather be around. Hope to run into you one day. Im an Eastern New Mexico Native.
I hope so too .. "Old Head" lol Thakns
That made me jealous. Lol.. Blessings
Brett how is your health doing? Looking pretty good. You are definitely faraway from crowds. Glad you found a stream for dogs & mules not too faraway from camp. Might not the best place, but was getting dark. You looked so relaxed leaning back smoking your pipe, had nice steak (yum yum).-Kid Yuma
I'm doing real good .. Thanks Kid
@@BrettVaughnB100 real great news, you seemed to have recovered pretty quick. Happy Thanksgiving Brett.
there is somthing about the smell of horses / mules and the feel of leather. thats livin
It really is .. Thanks
So cool 🇺🇸
That’s cool.
Reliving the old days is nice.
God bless sir.
Thank you .. I'm trying
as a small kid born and raised in So. Calif. my Dad in the mid 60's wanted to show me his old stomping ground from when he was a kid, on a family trip back to Ohio. I still remember the look on his face when the creek and tire swing tree was gone, and houses stood in their place. So, later when the Pretender's song came out " My City Was Gone " I had to play it for him.
I bet ... hard to go back .. Thanks
"It doesn't get any better than this." You nailed the reason why when you said "it's real". You are not sitting in a comfortable recliner watching TV or playing some weird sci-fi video game. Fabulous scenery; it reminds me of places I enjoy hiking where I chose to live - NM.
Absolutely.. we think alike .. Thanks
First of all Brett !
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎊🎈🎉🎁🎂
this month.
Great ride with you. I’m so glad that your Doctors said you’re ok and you’re still able to ride and hunt with your dogs. My two a 10 year old Daisy Beagle and 4 year old Blue Heeler don’t get to roam like that because of my O2 problems. But we make do .
Love riding with you
Onward and Upward -- Have a Blessed Thanksgiving 🙏
Thanks so much!! Onward and Upward !!
Good adventure
Fresh air and the outdoors ate soothing like nothing else.
Absolutely.. Thanks
Another great trip...
Thanks
Thank you! In a crazy world your videos bring me back to solid no nonsense roots. So relaxing ❤❤❤❤
Thank you !!
Like it. Keep'em coming
Trying .. thanks
I am enjoying traveling along your trail born 100 years to late is how I feel a lot on the time up in Alaska 100 years was like very few people and a really stuff place to be. I wonder who might have traveled that trail 100 year ago. Your videos are much better than any tv programs we see today thank you for taking use along .
That is awesome! Thank you very much!
Best ride I've had in a while thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
thanks for taking us along with you.
My pleasure thanks for watching
Another great adventure sir. You looked so relaxed and enjoying yourself. Makes me remember to times I would go camping solo when I was a lot younger. Great memories.
Glad you enjoyed it and Thanks .. I am relaxed when I'm out like that
just love your trips and camping my ex always said I was born 100 years too late also, living off the land doing for yourself , live back east but love the west have spent a couple years out there
Thank you .. I'm trying
Watching you sitting back by the campfire watching your steak cook and having a pipe and nip. As you say, it doesn’t come better than that. Cheers Dave from down under
No sir it doesn't .. I need to get back out there soon .. Thanks
Great video Brett ,thanks
Dropped by your house and met your grandson missed ya by 30 minutes. One day I’ll meet you. Nice trip
Come by again sometime .... sorry I missed you .. Thanks
This is very cool Old timer, you're motivating me to go get me a good mule and some dogs to do the same thing, keep on trucking!
Go for it! Thanks young timer lol
@@BrettVaughnB100 Hahaha thanks for the laugh😂 I'm gonna use that one 😂 You have a good night sir
Everything seems much bigger when we are kids. I recently saw my childhood home and its way smaller than i remember😂 i envy u living where u do. I live in ny and its too crowded and expensive. Id love to live out there. As far as camping if no ones there and all there is is a cooler its fair spot for anyone on public land
Yes it does ... I do like my wide open spaces .. Thank you
This makes my Sunday!!
Love your videos so much!!
Linda from Missouri 👍🥰😊♥️
You and your family have a happy Thanksgiving ☺️😊
Awesome! Thank you!
And a happy Thanksgiving to you also!
You earned your pipe and your shot of whiskey today. Saw a happy man when you spotted that stream and the meadow. The elk topped it off.
Yep .. it was nice Thanks
You’re a lucky man Brett. Watching you sitting by the fire with your pipe and a tot reminds me back when I was young camping out and puffing away on my pipe with my favourite baccy Erinmoor. Nice tangy flavour. Sweet memories. Take care Brett and many more camps. Dave from down under 😊😊
Thanks Dave !
Absolutely Beautiful 👍
Aright Brett living the good life with your mules and the pups!!
I'm trying ... Thanks
Beautiful country.
Hello Brett, Man I really enjoyed that video and it made me feel like I was back in New Mexico again. Kinda looked like the Lincoln National Forest in some areas where I’ve camped near Ruidoso or up around Capitan and Nogal! I felt like I was right in camp with you, the hounds and the mules. Yes it definitely felt like being back in the 1800’s. Hope your Doctors appointment went well? Thanks for letting me tag along and thanks for sharing your pack trip with us! Greg
Far as I can tell you have had the most perfect camp out experience, yeah you can always find a better spot but still perfect. Yepper even without the table and a grill it still felt good!
It was good .. thank you
Hi Brett looks a lot like southern Alberta anyway good camera editing nice camp .
I was talking about the terrain @@PaulShaw-ex7ri
Thanks
That sure sounded like like bear grease you was listenin to in the tent. Thanks for the video always enjoy them.
It was.. lol Thanks
Very entertaining and the content is right nice. Keep it up bud!
Thank you!!
I always loved riding my horses long ways away from the barn through the woods on the trails most relaxing time there is😊❤
Yes, I was brought up in the time and people would say hi and you would say hi back sometimes when I’m hiking and I run into people, they act in a rude act like you’re wasting their time they’re rude glad to see that you’re out again
Yeah .. I guess its just the way it is now days .. Thanks
Beautiful country ❤️
Found your channel today. Really love it. You and I got the same itch for wilderness. Your are scratching my itch. I don't get out in the wild much but sometimes the creeks and rivers I fish either on foot or in my small boat are isolated and i am the only one there. Feels good to be out in the wild. Keep up the videos and I will keep watching. Thanks.
Awesome! Thank you!
It's such pleasure hearing the steady hoof beats of your stalwart mules. Some years ago I logged with Belgian Draft mules and they were a such pleasure to work with. I am not sure if the question has been asked or if it is even permissible but have you run into "immigrants" crossing up from Mexico . . . or found trails or refuse left behind?
Great trail cowboy, nothing better then a good mule to get you there!!
👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Enjoying the scenery on your ride reminds me of hunting,,,,Sun Spot,,,,,Magdalena,,,,,Miller Flats and Reserve. I’m 67 yrs old living on the east coast now but my heart belongs to S.E.New Mexico from ‘58 to ‘74! Love the ride along you take me! Many thanks!
Your welcome ... thanks for coming along
I love your videos and I’m making sure that I see all of them so I go back and forth. This one
Is yet another beautiful area.
It's interesting to watch Survivor videos in the Southwest. I'm at the edge of the South sometimes rain, sometimes snow ,always difficult.. we don't look for water, we look for traction, and warmth. I was stationed at 29 Palms in the late 80s, and loved it.great videos, I always watch them. Keep up the great work
I don't about this being a survivor video? just kind of an adventure old school travel video?? Thanks
This is so cool Brett. I just found your channel yesterday while I was researching Massacre Canyon for a future video I want to do on my channel. Turns out last week, my mom was telling me about people she used to know here in Mesilla Valley: “The Vaughns” and she mentioned your dad Packy that she knew from riding horses here in the valley in the 60’s/70’s/80’s. Then I find your channel yesterday. After watching 4-5 of your videos today, I find out your last name… and then on this video you mentioned your Dad. What a crazy small world. I love your videos. I’m hooked. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Yep small world for sure .. whats your mom's name .. I will tell my Dad .. he still has horses but doesn't ride anymore .. he is 89 .. Thanks !!
@@BrettVaughnB100 Peggy DeRosa (maiden name Black). I believe she gave riding lessons to your sister Joy at one point?
I remember her …. My little sister wanted to learn English we all rode western …
@@BrettVaughnB100 Yup! Too cool. Small world. I hit you up on instagram as well.
Love your videos! I’ve Been riding mules and donkeys many years. Recently lost my riding mule( henny) and donkey. Now I’m hiking the BLM, high desert with my companion donkey. I’m 83 years old. I owe my health to my living close to nature with great animals. I recently got a walker hound bitch and a6 month old pup to enjoy the wilderness.
Sounds like you have some good stories would like to talk to you some day .. Thanks
Man, I would love to be there riding alongside you. Watching this brings back a lot of fond memories, riding the mountains in British Columbia. Not quite as dry as you've got there, but you got some good looking country. I think my old bones would probably prefer that dry climate now. Nice to see the camp, and finding that stream was awesome. Take it easy, and keep on enjoying what you love to do. Cheers
Thank you .. yes the dry climate does have some advantages
Thank you for the awesome content. I wish I found this channel earlier! Safe travels my friend.
More to come .. Thanks wish had too
Another well done video.
Thanks for the content!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching
Thanks for a great video. It sure is beautiful country where you were. Ol Fat Laurie doesn’t get too far away it seemed.
Thank you ... no she stays pretty close .. Thanks
I like the jeremiah Johnson line you put in there
Thanks for another fine ride 😊
Yeah, when I make contact on the trail howdys are generally exchanged.
A time or two I've been ignored or avoided by other hikers. I'm pretty wary about those critters...
Yes .. heck they might not of spoke english? .. thanks
"I didn't get started early". Sounds like me. Be up at 4 or 5 and still won't get out the house before 7. Another great video of beautiful land. Thanks
Thank you .. I gotta do better
Thanks Brett! I feel the same way about being out in the back country. It’s a sense of being where you belong and the freedom that goes with it. Puts life in perspective.
It really does .. Thank you !
Good to see you getting up on the mountain. You look better up there. You should stay there for a couple days. I enjoyed this one. Keep exploring.
That is the plan .. searching for another mule now then I'm off .. Thank you
@@BrettVaughnB100
Good to hear. We both need time in the mountains. I have seen some good mules come out of Missouri you might check there. Stay couriers and explore.
Always enjoy your videos! I was fortunate enough to take a few horses and ride back into the mountains with my dad this weekend. Few things better than sitting around a fire with my dad, the horses hobbled a little ways off in a nice meadow, seeing country and making memories.
That is awesome! I Dad is still around but can't go out like this anymore .. enjoy it while you can .. Thanks
Excellent video. I really enjoy your content. Ivwas also diagnosed with A-Fib over 10 years ago. I am doing great now. Your geart has a memory of sorts with the electrical paths so good rhythms make more good rhythms. I am no longer on any meds
I'm off the meds now too mostly .. but I feel great .. Thanks
I watched the video several times.. thanks fur sharing.. something I would love to do someday.. Hahaha, I liked the part from the Jeremiah Johnson scenes😂😂 also one my favorite movies👍🏾💯
Keep riding my friend, You've come far pilgrim.🙏🏽✝️
Thank you … feels like far
@BrettVaughnB100 Keep your videos coming, I love 'em.. I can feel the free spirit out there.. God is good to you, my friend🙏🏽
Another great video, makes me feel relaxed. Keep it up and take care of yourself!
Thank you .. I will try
Cowboyvon,
Great video, thank you. That really cool retracing your steps from a trip with your Dad.
Glad you enjoyed it Thank you .. Cowboyvon .. thats old lol
As hunters hikers n campers, we always forget something. I wish I knew you 15 years ago Packer. I still hunt mule deer but not Elk anymore, don't have mules, besides I just turned 73.
lol I know I do .. thanks for watching
I remember those mts. And all the places you've been, I use to live in Silver City just a little ways down the road, I'm disabled now in a wheelchair, you sure do bring back the old times. Ya I did find some gold, in turkey creek area, called hell canyon. Thanks for all you do, and may GOD Bless you sir.
Thank you .. and may God Bless you ...
Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate you making these videos. One day you just showed up in my feed and I've been hooked. Got out of horses a few years back and I totally miss the life. Was very much into camping with my animals and riding in my mountains. You also make me giggle with you saying. I grew up with my father who was from Missouri saying a lot of the same sayings. My favorite is onward upward. Blessing to you and keep on riding. You bring happiness to many who are no longer out there riding themselves.
Thank you very much .. its been a long hard struggle learning how to make decent videos lol I am an old man ..
Hey, but you've done it. I think it's awesome! And the fact you're out there still riding and camping is amazing. I'm fascinated by the high desert areas you ride in.@@BrettVaughnB100
You go on see that doctor let him take look make sure nothing major is wrong. We want to see more post!

You're correct , it don't get any better, my camping is on an island in Canada. I think it all, feels the same.

Watching your videos makes me forget the day to day stresses of life ... I did catch that line you used from Jeremiah Johnson 😊
Yes one of my favorite movies ... glad I can help and thank you
Ačiū! Labai įdomu. Thanks.
I always forget things for the camp trips too. So I made 2 lists, 1 for short trips and 1 for longer trips. It made a difference, I dont forget anything anymore and when I pack back up to leave I make sure everything is checked off and goes back with me.
Good video. Been watching that Mormon kid that left Nevada last month with three mustangs traveling for a year and going thru 30 states. Look him up.
Thats a good Idea .. I will do it .. Thanks
So much uncertainty riding along in the pretty much unknown wilderness Brett. Great adventure young man….yes young. I remember old camping spots, and old events, great fun , keep going Brett ! Old western movies, yup! How about old west novels , Max Brand, Zane Grey…..I would take on hunting trips, lean against a tree, read, nod off, wake up, shoot…..then the work starts ….Thanks for the vid ! 👍🏻🤠. Stay away from those doctors….🫣
Yes I need to carry some with me .. I have read a bunch .. I read lonsome dove before the movie came out Thank you and I will try to stay away from them as much as i can ..

Howdy Mr.Bret, I just found your channel and love to see you sharin' your trips into the back country as I grew up with Grizzly Adams, and have been told all my life I was born 150 years late so I can relate to near everything you say...be safe sir.

You bet thanks for watching !
This is good stuff my friend! I love your show! You are a mountain man. Rk.
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you
Thanks!
Welcome! Thank you!!!!
29:58 I’m thinking almost 10 miles out in the wilderness has an awesome healing property to it. While sitting around in 4 walls would kinda set a man on his back foot. The quiet solitude has a certain quality to it. Whether it’s on a horse with no name or with a few tried and tested old animal friends. Just my line of thinking Brett. 🇦🇺👍🇺🇸
Your right .. its good medicine .. Thanks
Brett ,
Right before you said u saw that bull elk I was thinking that valley had to had Elk , Deer , Bear , cats ect
Wish I was there with ya , but I'm stuck in SE Ohio running my trap line 185 coyote traps set and 55 muskrat traps out and that takes up most of my day because we have to check all traps in 24hr cycle I wish they'd give us 48 but I can understand the other side they think traps kill and break bones when that's not the case they made to hold and not damage critters legs/fur .. I can't tell u how many times I've had my hand stuck in coyote , beaver and rat traps ya it stings at 1st but just leaves a bruise .
Have a Blessed Thanksgiving
Kyle Maynard
It was a nice valley .. wish I could of got some video of that Bull .. that trap line sounds like a lot of work but I'm sure you enjoy the heck out of it .. Thank you and Merry Christmas
What a great adventure as always. Great country. Maybe once we get moved and settled in I can take you to my favorite camp in New Mexico. Up by Antonio Mountain, and Cruces Basin.
I would like that .. Thanks
I’ve been smoking a tobacco pipe for two years. There’s nothing more relaxing than riding my mule, a good sip of whiskey, and a nice smoke. Many prayers for safe travels.
Same, I personally enjoy it with a little of the green tobacco. Helps with the saddle sore 😊
