More like$ 35 or 50$ for top shelf..... A restaurant near me sells shots of pappy van winkle for 51$ ... For a single shot. And they aren't even that fancy ....
i made a pomegranate old fashioned for christmas this year! i muddled fresh seeds and added a pomegranate simple syrup i made with orange bitters and some woodford reserve, was excellent
Ya I would send that drink back... Half oz demerara.... It's proally a 2:1 too. Then cherry syrup. No Ango or other aromatic bitters... No fresh orange... Orange bitters instead... Needs salt too especially since it's that dang sweet... I'm sorry that smoke is not gonna save it.
Here's my favorite old fashioned: Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon with Angostura or Orange Bitters, then some simple syrup. ALWAYS use Luxardo cherries with a little bit of the juice in there. And you can't forget the Orange rind squeezed and rubbed around the rim. I've never had anything to properly smoke my Old Fashioned, but I gotta try it.
I'd either have to leave out the demurara or cut down on the cherry syrup, but otherwise this sounds quite nice. I tend to be pretty simple with my old fashioned. 2oz whiskey, 1/2oz sweetener, a dash or two of whatever bitters I have on hand, a luxardo cherry (if i have it), rub the rim with an orange peel (if I have it).
-2 oz burbon -2-4 dash angostura bitters -barspoon of demmerara syrup -express and insert orange swath - standard cubes of ice if I am going to drink it fast or a single large cube if I am going to be sipping it for awhile
For me... One sugar cube with 2-3 dashes of ango. Add a drizzle of water (preferably soda) and muddle until the sugar is 50-80% dissolved. Then add 2 oz of bourbon (I like something higher proof, tbh most anything bonded will probably be good) a LARGE CLEAR ICE CUBE (cant emphasize how important good ice is for this drink) and stirr in the same glass for 5-10 seconds (shorter than most drinks). For garnish do a lemon and orange peel (aka the rabbit ears garnish), and dont forget to express those oils over the top of the drink. But yeah, its a classic for a reason; great drink.
Was at a sales conference few weeks ago and drank quite a few of these minus the smoke. I like my pulled pork to taste smoky not my drinks lol. Can’t go wrong, definitely add the cherry! Bar used Angels Envy… excellent!
2oz Evan Williams bottled and bond 1oz homemade simple Dash of angostura bitters 5 drops of lime juice Stir, drop in a large square cube, stir until cold. That’s how I have made mine for years
In a separate glass, good bourbon, Wellers or maybe Buffalo Trace, three dishes of orange bitters, and a half teaspoon of maple syrup. In your serving glass, burn some wood chips and place the glass over the burning wood, add an ice ball. stir your mixing glass, and pour it over the ice, take an orange peel, and give a twist into the glass, rub the oils on the rim, and drop it in.
2oz Your favorite Bourbon 1 Barspoon Luxardo Cherry Juice. 3 Dashes Angasturra Bitters Express the oils of one orange peel over the drink. Stir. Garnish with Orange Peel and 2 Luxardo Cherries.
2oz of favorite whiskey (mine is woodford reserve double oaked) .25 demerara syrup 2 dashes of angostura bitters ^Stir all in ice for 30 seconds pour over a gentlemen’s cube in a rocks glass 1 Expressed orange peel, rubbed over rim, placed in glass 1 luxardo cherry
2 oz Three Crosses (Powhatan VA.) Noble Hound Dark Rye, half oz simple syrup, toasted orange rind, 6 to 8 drops of Fee Brothers black walnut bitters, smoked - usually oak barrel.🤗
I’ll increase the portions to 2.5 oz Whiskey/Rye. 3/4 oz. Rich Demerara Syrup. Then do a dash of Angostura bitters and a couple dashes of orange bitters. Gotta get the spoon of cherry juice, then the cherry with more juice. Finish with a spray of Orange Blossom water.
In a tin shaker : cherry and orange slice with your choice of bitters & choice of bourbon or whiskey. muddle dry for about 10 seconds. Fine strain over Large ice cube or round cube and served with a fresh orange peel and cherry. Thank you!
1 Demerara sugar cube 2 dashes of bitters 2 dashes of orange bitters 1 cap of soda water Muddle Add 2 oz of whiskey or rye Large ice Stir until cold Add orange slice Add cherry
The beautiful thing about an old fashioned is the variation in how it is made. I make mine using the following method: • one sugar cube in an old fashioned/rocks glass • three dashes of bitters on top of the sugar cube • trim an orange slice down leaving a bit of the meat on the rind - squeeze the small bit of juice left in the orange on the sugar cube. • muddle the liquid/sugar cube mixture. • add 2-3oz of Wild Turkey 101 rye • stir for a bit • add your maraschino cherry • express the orange rind from earlier round the rim of the glass and place the rind in the glass • add ice cube(s) • enjoy
OF100 Rye for everyday, sometimes a Pikesville Rye. Homemade simple syrup infused with a little cinnamon stick and apple peel. Some angostura bitter, a good cherry and a peel with an ice ball. I keep the syrup and bitters mixed in a mason jar for easy pours
That's what I do with the premium cherry syrup and less on the symple syrup. The orange put a 1/4 small wedge and stomp once or twice with a muddler so a little juice and arange essence is released. And a cherry in the end on top like he does here. Had lots of compliments on this one.
Here’s my recipe as a professional bartender: 2oz bourbon/rye 3/4 Demerara syrup 4 full dashes angostura bitters Add a slice of orange Add ice and stir vigorously Strain into a rocks glass and garnish with Luxardo cherry and expressed orange twist
4oz JTS Brown BIB 1 Cinnamon stick 4 dashes orange bitters 4 dashes aromatic bitters 2 Luxardo cherries with a bit of the syrup. Orange peel Put it in the freezer for 15 min, remove add one small cube, and enjoy. I ALWAYS MAKE A DOUBLE, CHEERS!!
Almost identical to how I make mine. The only changes is I use Woodford Reserve Rye and then express a lemon peel over the top and use the oils to rim the glass. Great way to make them. If you haven't used demerara syrup before you are missing out.
2-3 oz of Jack rye, depending on the day. About .5 oz syrup and water. I add the water for myself because not much of a whiskey person, but I love old fashioneds. About 6 dashes of bitters and garnish with orange rind and cherry.
I enjoy my old fashioned with the crittendon barrel pick you came out with. I use a premix for the bitters and sugar water. I rub the rim with orange peel . It is delicious
I do angostina bitters, then orange bitters. Also add the bit of the marachino cherry juice, the smoke is all for show, imo. Orange peel if i have it but not necessary. I make my own simple syrup with a bit vanilla extract. 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Could infuse with real vanilla bean if your fancy ahead of time.
Sugar cubes, angostura bitters, a little splash of orange juice, smash it and stir in 2 oz of Makers mark, cherry and orange peel which i put over a fire for a few seconds to get the oils out and I rub it around the glass
Two parts bourbon (or whiskey of choice) one part grand marnier, a drop of orange or angostura bitters, mix (and smoked if possible) add an ice block give it a good mix and enjoy.
So I’ve been on a: 2oz Pikesville Rye 1/2oz Demerara syrup Couple dashes or old foresters Bohemian bitters Garnished with an amarena cherry. It’s delicious to say the least!
I like 3 dashes of angostura bitters, a little less than .5oz syrup, 2oz bourbon, stir up with ice a bunch, pour mixture over ice block and add/express orange peel
I like mine with makers mark, angestora bitters, white sugar, orange, sweet cherry, and ice. Put a few dashes of bitters and a 1/2 tsp sugar in a rocks glass, stir down to get the sugar started dissolving. Then put in a couple ice cubes and a little whiskey then stir, go back and forth with adding and stirring until you have about 2 oz poured. Put little cherry syrup in, a squeeze of orange juice, stir, and garnish with a cherry and orange slice. You can adjust the sugar and cherry syrup to your liking. I like my drinks a little on the sweeter side.
Very similar to my old fashion. I like using raw sugar, 2 dashes of angostura bitters, 1 dash of orange bitters, 2 oz rye, 1 luxardo cherry, 1 orange peel. Then add the ice cube of course
Lemon peel twisted, teaspoon maple syrup, 1-3 dashes Angostura bitters, splash of seltzer/club, then stir. Add a large ice cube, then 1.5 ounces of your favorite liquor, plus any berry as garnish. Give it the lightest shake/stir, then enjoy. It gets tastier every sip. Definitely eat that berry at the end.
1/2 oz simple syrup (or sugar cube muddled in water) 1/2 oz cherry syrup 3 dashes of peychards bitters 4oz old foresters 100 proof 2 cherrys Orange twist Serve over ice Yes it’s sweet but that’s how I like it.
I recently became a big fan of the Michters straight rye over the Holidays. Good taste. Will be getting it again to make this drink. Gotta love the old fashioned.
Mine is a just a classic Maker's Mark old fashioned with simple syrup and orange bitters. I mix everything in a measuring cup combine it then pour it over a large ice cube.

Someone got me the big kit from Fees and some sampler packs of other brands for Christmas. Just for fun a few years ago when I was making a batch of cocktail cherries which are cheap enough to put over ice cream in large quantities I also made a trial run from frozen peaches which are fantastic instead of a cherry in an old fashion
Many different versions but my favorites are a quested bourbon with a chamomile gum syrup dandelion burdock root bitters and an orange peel. And second is a rum old fashioned with Ron Zacapa 23 year gum syrup angostura bitters and an orange peel.
Looks good. I like to express an orange slice over it and rub the rim, then add to the drink. Just got a smoking kit for Christmas and experimenting with it. Any suggestions for the best wood and time to let it smoke would be helpful.

Man of culture!
I like using Maple syrup as the sweetener and angostura bitters.
Actually had this suggestion previously and tried it this weekend, was really good.
Yep, me too
That’s how I make mine now! It’s incredibly delicious!🥃
I do the same, but prefer Peychaud bitters. The anise notes play with the maple syrup in a way I really enjoy.

“That’ll be $20”

That’s just the normal price where I live
That’s why I rarely order one. Too easy to make perfectly at home for cheap.

@@chanceDdog2009 that’s bull. I always try to tell my gf it’s not worth it, and that we can do it for a fraction of the price at home…

Cherry syrup with the half oz of demerara sounds sweet

Definitely. .25 oz at most plus just the syrup on cherry is enough. Needs the orange and a dash or two of ango.
Exactly. I don't think this guy is much of a bartender tho
Yeah, too sweet. It's super sweet with 1/4 oz. Half ounce is way too much
That’s a damn good looking ole fashioned my friend!
Here's my favorite old fashioned:
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon with Angostura or Orange Bitters, then some simple syrup. ALWAYS use Luxardo cherries with a little bit of the juice in there. And you can't forget the Orange rind squeezed and rubbed around the rim. I've never had anything to properly smoke my Old Fashioned, but I gotta try it.
That sounds great, I do love double oaked in an old fashioned.

Woodford all the way.
Not a fan of smoked drinks. Bought a smoke machine used it once.

I do enjoy myself an Old-Fashioned. This is a great take on one. thanks for sharing. cheers.
Thanks for the positive vibes.
My favorite old fashioned is Four Roses single barrel, two healthy dashes of Angostura bitters, some simple, and an orange twist
Exactly how I make mine! I love Four Roses Single Barrel!
The orange twist is exactly what I thought he was missing from the recipe!

-1 Drop of Wildflower Honey
(MUDDLE)
