- Made for Wesley geht auf Jimmy Rosenberg zurück, dem Cousin von Stochelo Rosenberg. 1996 gründete er mit Johnny und Rinus Steinbach das Trio Gipsy, mit dem er im gleichen Jahr eine USA-Tournee unternahm und das gleichnamige Album aufnahm. Made for Wesley entstand wahrscheinlich in dieser Gründungsphase und wird oft als Gypsy Jazz Standard geführt, obwohl er auch mediterrane Vibes in sich trägt.
Mit Joscho Stephan, einem der bekanntesten Gypsy und Swing Gitarristen der heutigen Zeit, findet dieser grandiose Song einen weiteren Meister in der Interpretation. Zusammen mit seinen Gitarren Kollegen Olli Soikkeli und Sven Jungbeck, sowie Volker Kamp am Bass spielte er am 21.09.21 eine berührende und einfühlsame Version dieses wunderschönen Werkes.
Aufgenommen im AudimaGH`s bei Gartenheim, Hannover.
Made for Wesley was written by Rinus Steinbach, probably in 1996, when Rinus and Jimmy Rosenberg founded a new Jazz trio.
Joscho Stephan & friends are the perfect artists to interpretate a new version of this wonderful tune in these days.

How they just run through the scales with ease and the speed is incredible a real joy to watch .
I won t say a thing about joscho s timing, precision, technique. But his lines.. beautiful! So many licks, so many scales, so many techniques and all at the proper time. He lets his playing breathe. So much playing through feeling. Genius 👏👏👏

Joscho is incredible - no argument. But all I hear is a show-off. Playing everything all at once - and yes, playing it well, but no genuine phrasing, just waiting for the chance to 'out technique' someone else. I don't feel the same intent. Sorry fam

Joscho Stephan is in the top handful globally and this other virtuoso, although less well known internationally is almost as good!
Olli Soikkeli is from my country Finland! Seen him live 4 times 😅 Can you blame me?
This is a great example of 2 very different picking styles by 2 amazing musicians. Olli's right hand fingers are more fist shaped with his 4 fingers close together and curled under the T and his pick position more under to the T than I. Joscho has a more open hand technique with his I, M and R fingers extended towards the T with more space between each finger and his pick is positioned higher from the T on the I. So interesting!

Great song, great performance. I think, in my humble opinion, that in the Mano a Mano solo… Joshco is the winner. 👍🏻
Fortunately, music ain't sports. Joscho and Olli both play so beautifully and virtuosic - I don't see any sense in deviding into winner and loser.
