  • Back in 2017, myself and a few of the Perth crew ventured down to Rockingham for an intro to the Woodies Run. The course was from Palm Beach to Woodman Point and turned out to be about 15km of pure downwind fun. At that time, I decided we needed to extend the fun and make the course longer, so had a look at Google maps and chose new start and end points. This fantastic course is now nearly 23km's long and after some healthy debate, we named it "THE SNAPPER RUN". Launching in the pristine waters of a north facing beach in the lee of Point Peron, we paddle under the causeway bridge, then surf the swell free waters funnelling between Garden Island and the mainland through the middle of Cockburn Sound (so much energy in the water through here). At the end of Garden Island just before we rip past Woodman Point, we encounter the swell wrapping around the island and interacting with the wind chop. This creates wildly shifting and challenging conditions before eventually lining up beautifully for the 3km magic carpet ride in to South Beach. This course has become iconic and is a 'must do paddle' for anyone visiting West Oz. It's simply amazing out there!!

It's pretty special David. A little less hectic over here on the west coast for sure.

Thanks. We do still get some wind, but it's generally associated with storm fronts. Can be fun, but doesn't line up like it does the rest of the year.

Thanks Tony. I have the camera mounted on top of a 60cm pole made from a carbon paddle shaft. There is a video showing the setup in one of my posts from a few years back.
