- On 28 May, 2000, Peter was a guest on the BBC TV programme Later with Jools Holland. The show was recorded at the Southampton Guildhall, the first time away from its usual home at Television Centre, in London.
Peter performed two songs Father, Son and Downside Up, from the as yet unreleased album OVO.
The vocals for Downside Up were performed by Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) and Paul Buchanan (The Blue Nile). Also on stage are Tony Levin, David Rhodes, Richard Evans, Dom Greensmith and the Black Dyke Band. - เพลง
This is beyond comprehension this combination of people and beauty across genres. Fraser and Buchanan together is unreal.
Agree, beatiful combination
A masterpiece of composition and performance
The most beautiful combination ever
Looks like Liz Frazer is having a spastic attack with her mouth and stupid facial expressions :)
Gabriel, Liz Fraser, Paul Buchanan, Tony Levin...same stage! Unreal OMG!
Paul Buchanan's voice is both heart-breaking and heart-healing simultaneously.
What a perfect observation! Couldn’t agree more.
Yes Brian.. that is exactly what his amazing voice is like! 🙏👍
I agree. He has a voice of honesty.
The fact that the Millennium Dome spawned this masterpiece is worth the cost imo. Incredible track that gets even better when them horns kick in 👍
GodBless Peter Gabriel for bringing these two exquisite voices together, to sing this amazing song he wrote. There are no egos on that stage, just pure talent.
Thanks for posting.👍
There is nothing which I can add to posts such as yours. The performance speaks for itself. So nice to see all the love and appreciation which remains for these wonderful musicians.
@@Kidderman3 greetings from Poland.
luv
I've been listening to IO but these songs from OVO are still the most beautiful.
but what the hell? This is unheard of. This is the most incredible combination of musicians I've seen in my life. They say that life is unpredictable for nothing.
The summit meeting of Progressive Pop, Dream Pop and Sophisti-Pop.
This is something else, beyond the amazing.
Correct.
everything with Elizabeth is.
on so many levels
Everything is so right here.
Thank You, Peter Gabriel.
She should be much better known than she is her talent is amazing
Looks like Liz Frazer is having a spastic attack with her mouth and stupid facial expressions :)
Back when Later was consistently worth watching.
I love both these singers and their bands dearly. It never ceases to amaze me how phenomenal Liz's voice is thought. She's so tiny and fragile and humble and then the voice of a Faerie Queen from some Shakespearean dream comes out of her. It's wonderful.💖
Питер Габриэль и Фрейзер. Мои 90 годы...❤
OMG liz and Paul together just incredible. I have seen Bowie The Jam plus many more live but for me The Blue Nile was the best I've ever seen
I travelled all the way from Holland to manchester to see the blue nile....man what a great decision. Their concert was absolutely terrific...and Paul's voice...live.. so strong and beautiful!

They played here in Houston TX in the 90s and for some stupid reason I didn't go, and the venue was like 10 minutes from my house. Literally from my house I would have to go down my street and make a right then go one mile the make a left then 5 blocks and ,make another right and then about 7 minutes away
Typical! You can always rely on Peter Gabriel to know genius when he hears it. Two of the greatest vocalists that have ever lived.
What an astonishing and joyful discovery, as someone with CD's by all these artists from when they were released.
Oh my god, when the most beautiful woman voice meets the most beautiful man voice!!!
And both Scottish as well.
Um, plus the vocalist who pulled everything together!
Elizabeths voice stirs my soul. The entire production was beautifully done. I could listen to you all for hours.
The Cocteau Twins were like a soundtrack to my 80's life, and well into the 90's, but to see Liz so vibrant again is a joy, she has blossomed, her voice is so warm and welcoming, and her melodic tapestries bedazzling, a true musician, a true artist. Wonderful and with the singer of the amazing Blue Nile, two scots blessed with drive and motivation to craft their voices like angelic forces of light and dark. Fabulous...
Looks like Liz Frazer is having a spastic attack with her mouth and stupid facial expressions :)
Well said
Cocteau Twins no the.
Liz Fraser and Paul Buchanan!
Two musical greats singing together, and the quality is everywhere.
The guy on the organ is pretty good too.
Hair on back of the neck stuff - just one of those songs you get from time to time you just know hearing it for the 1st time it’s going to be great. It just builds and builds. Superb !!
It certainly pulled me in.
amazing doubling of liz's voice in beginning.
Looks like Liz Frazer is having a spastic attack with her mouth and stupid facial expressions :)🤣
What makes me smile is when I see the musicians smiling through this. Especially as the songs bursts and takes flight in the middle. Love it.
masterful - beautiful - magical
So. Much. Greatness. In. This. Room.
In my view,2 of the greatest voices of the last 50 odd years brought together just Once in this exquisite song. Paul and Liz were at the peak of their powers. beyond superb!
Ironically three of the greatest vocalists on this track... but one of them is just whistling and tinkling a keyboard. :)
I see/hear 3. Fkng stunning.
Perfect
Liz, whatelse can I say that hasn’t been said before. Love the Blue Nile
Please, come back to us Elizabeth.
In case you don't know, she has a new project with her partner called Sun's Signature. They released an eponymous EP this year.
Top drawer talent - outstanding!
Stunning ,,, the full arrangement of this song totally amazing,,, Had the pleasure on a few occasions to be in Paul’s company a total Gentleman thanks for this ❤️
Ahhh yes!!! Perfection!~Sebastian
Absolutely wonderful song ❤💛💙
La classe
I'm sobbing watching this. The Millennium was meant to be the point where we became a better species. New ideas. New technology. A brighter, happier future for everyone, free of constrictive ideology and outdated dogma. to me, that what this song is about.
In the early 21st century, it seems all that optimism and confidence has been lost. A lost future.
Don't give up

A fantastic song, written by a man I respect so much. His song have been with me for 50 years, through the pain and elation of life. ❤ Beautifully sung by Peter, Liz and Paul, thank you for posting.
Popping back now and again to listen to a great song ❤❤❤
What a beautiful song and stunning musicians, Gracias❤️✨✨
I like all and she has a very special voice, sweet voice.
good lord..... prided myself thinking I was familiar with pretty much everything Liz has done.... but never saw this. Everything she does yields a sonic masterpiece. Thank you so much for this.
Glad you were surprised and enjoyed it! Many thanks for your comment! ;)
Looks like Liz Frazer is having a spastic attack with her mouth and stupid facial expressions :)
God I love her!
In truth I didn’t expect anything else other that perfecto considering who’s on stage 🌍✌🏼
I have been looking for an even reasonably acceptable version of this clip- for an age - this is marvelous - thank you.
That was exactly my goal, to have it uploaded in the best quality possible given the circumstances. Many thanks for your comment! ;)
Este tema es una obra de arte!!! Gracias Peter!!!❤
Il giovane chitarrista è strepitoso!🎸 Liz è sempre Liz
Far out... isn't Paul B just the most likeable chap? Would love to have a chat and a stroll around Glasgow with him
I've spotted him a few times down Byres Road, just for future reference.
Top Bloke, from what I know of him.
Waitrose is a good place to meet him. Met him at a party in the west end, such a nice quiet guy. My wife was friends with his ex girlfriend when the first Blue Nile album was.
Peter Gabriel must be a nice guy as he has had such talented but elusive artists working with him like Kate Bush, Liz Fraser and Paul. Liz and Kate are the finest female singers the UK has ever produced and Paul is one of our best male singers.
She's fucking with her volume, CLEARY having issues but still nails it. ❤
Beyond magnificent
This is so cool, like an all star cast
A MASTERPIECE!
Stunning.
Oh my goodness me, what a beautiful sound.
wonderful
So so beautiful
Amazing ❤
Quanta bellezza ❤
Omg Wow!!!!
Dream ensemble!
Hermoso!.
Wow!!!
Oh, this is where it was all going PG. Unbelievably beautiful. Also, can't find a record of that show, May 28th 2000?
FANTASTISCH ❤
Paul is a GOD.
God this is good
Wow
It’s an all star cast song, some days it works, some days it just ok.
😃
Aside from the shitty audio mixing, this is a gem... long forgotten but tremendous 👌
Quite right. Whats going on with phasing? Sounds double tracked
@@roddyb123 hardly hear Liz
@@roddyb123 in the original the volum was so low it was barely audible so they doubled the vocals lol
!
Show
Here she is! Can someone help me find a recording of Underwater (Blanco Y Negro)? Please and thanks!
This is probably not the version you are looking for. I apologize for that. But I do find this version of "Underwater" and the video with it beautiful and sad ... th-cam.com/video/C0xbgpk21ik/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Diskostatic I hope you do find the specific "Bianco Y Negro" version.
@@wolfil8019 Very fine! I recognized her voice immediately. Thanks much!
@@y0nd3r Glad to share it.
@@wolfil8019 I found the original. I posted it here in reply, but I guess it got deleted because it's a SoundCloud address?
Anyway, if you're interested I can inbox that to you.
@@y0nd3r I'm not very tech-savvy (especially not sure of tech-terms), so I'm not sure what "inboxing" is, but if there's a way to get that to me, I am definitely interested.
Cold rope ya curtains
Trace Elliot - Marshall - Vox, that'll d'me.
play?
Is it Pino on bass? Btw, Liz at 2:56... watch that joy :)
No, it's Tony Levin.
24'7 .
please "knot" Peter Gabriel, though.
Wash Ya Machine , aft 'r wards
She sounds like Kate Bush.
She definitely sounds like herself
Nee aid'r
Why does it seem as she has two voices when she sings at times? That’s always puzzled me. In terms of albums of course it can be explained away by overdubs. But live… cmon dude what the fuck is she doing? How?!
Its just a recorded vocal shes singing along with for the harmony by the sounds of it
@@benjaminwoodrowmusic6070 thank god! I doubted it but sheesh.
The Jools Holland Mix never liked me, Great Performances always but sounds very poor. Absence of Power of Percussion and the bass drum.
Doesn't come close to the original from The Maestro and his daughter.
Sound quality is horrible... WTF?
Every song Elizabeth contributed towards past years, the songs SUCK. They're horrible. Is she broke or something???
Talking shit
The guitar player shouldn’t be there
