I LOVE Robert Jackson Bennet and you’re the only booktuber I ever see talking about his books! I loved the tainted cup too, and the founders trilogy is one of my all time favorites. ❤

I love love love your reviews; they are so succinct but descriptive! While watching this video, it made me think though, have you ever posted a wrap up or recommendation video where you have never edited it? I would love to “see the process” of how you cull your reviews down to make them so great!

I definitely wanted more from The Familiar. It was good, but I feel like it could've been great. A Sorceress Comes to Call wasn't my favorite T Kingfisher book either, but I did really enjoy it. The Spellshop has been my favorite fantasy book so far this year. The conversations about grief really hit home for me, and the found family aspect was sweet. Where The Dark Stands Still is the next audiobook that I'm going to listen to.

@@catsandbats77 @LizzyBurd-u3q I read it at the beginning of this month and I really loved it, too. I am Atlantic Canadian, so a lot of the history is important to me. I could easily have put this in the historical fiction section - I think you have to like that genre to enjoy this book. I have been a bit on the fence about reading The Familiar because of the so so reviews, but I think I will give it a try as I have been enjoying historical with a touch of fantasy this year.

Lol, I just finished it about a half hour ago and I did not like it at all! The "love" stories were forced, writing mediocre and the ending had me rolling my eyes.
I'm hoping the author's other works are more my jam.

@@Momo_0_o I was also disappointed by the book, I had to DNF it at 100 pages. I read her Winternight trilogy and Small Spaces quartet first so I had high expectations which was probably my downfall. That being said, Winternight trilogy is my favourite trilogy of all time so I hope you have more luck with that!

I really liked Fate Inked in Blood. But I did get confused with the end half. The Spellshop was my favourite book I've read this year! It was so warm, magical and interesting. When I picked it up I really needed a book like that. La Familiar I was reading but I had to return it to the library so hopefully I can get it back again to continue reading.

I really liked Warm Hands of Ghosts. I am glad it was nominated. I read a lot of books in a given year, but often the books I have read aren't even among the Goodreads Choice Awards lol. But I was able to vote for a couple this year (including WHoG). While it wasn't my all time fave read, it was the best option for me out of the fantasy nominations lol.

I feel like im in the minority that really enjoyed The Familiar, but I do agree it could’ve been better if it was longer and more fleshed out. I voted The Tainted Cup as it is one of my favourite books this year and I hope it wins!

I've only read the Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen. I loved her writing style, plot and pace of the book. I thought the character developed was also good. I have yet to finish the series or read any others by the same author. It was a 5 star reads for me this year, which I only give to books I love.
On a different note, I think the Emily Wild books are really popular. Because of that, I think they placed it with Sarah J Maas to maybe give other books a chance. Watering down those votes a little. Lol😅

  • @nflower33
    @nflower33 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

There was no epic fantasy books and the sci-fi section was mostly literary sci-fi. Maybe they need another category for epic fantasy?
I voted for The Empire of the Damned in fantasy. Spellshop felt like was written for a very young reader and I just couldn’t finish it! However I did read Where the Dark Stands Still because of your recommendation and really loved it 😊

  • @danielleholmes458

Surprised you found the Emily Wilde sequel to be not as good as the first, I thought the first book had some really slow parts and took like 50 pages or so before getting me hooked. With book two we just jumped right in, the pacing felt better and I loved we got to see more of her established relationships.

I only read The Tainted Cup... it was good, but I don't think I liked it as much as everyone else seems to. Not sure how many of these would appeal to me, other than Empire of the Damned, which would probably have been my vote if I had been able to get ahold of it. Not sure I even heard anyone talk about most of these.
Sounds like Bardugo and Klune win by default though, since it's a popularity contest in the end.

I am quite hesitant to pick up Map of the Otherlands despite how much praise the series geta because I only found Encyclopaedia of Faeries to be decent. Mostly because it drew so heavily from norweigan/Icelandic elven believes... so many of the placenames and such were Icelandic even (or Scandinavian-sounding) and as an Icelander I just found it to be kinda lacking
