    As an electrician that does strictly remodels this is an absolute essential tool. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI Being able to precision cut any material with a light weight tool is priceless.I upgraded to this Dewalt 20v from a competitor's 12v. The Dewalt 20v is just as light as the competitor's 12v. I am extremely pleased with the overall performance and battery life of this tool. As far as oscillators go, they just aren't very ergonomic tools. The dewalt oscillators have an offset handle that do make them somewhat more ergonomic than the competitors' oscillators.

    My personal favorite so far has been the Victorinox Manager. The Rambler’s selection of tools is mostly the parts of the Minichamp I need, without stuff (like the cuticle pusher and ruler) that I just don’t use, and with a reduced price to match the pared-down toolset.
    The addition of the pen in place of the toothpick that the Manager adds back in is super useful to me though. Never being without a writing utensil is great

    • @StraightForwardReviews
      @StraightForwardReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re right/write about that!

    • @danielcluley870
      @danielcluley870 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same, but I have a Rambler with a Firefly Ferro-rod in place of the toothpick.
      I have never used it. I have never used the toothpick either (1. gross, 2. you have a knife, just cut a twig for a toothpick, duh)
      I have tested a firefly and it actually worked to start a fire if adverse conditions exist, so it is kinda just there as an emergency backup on person, despite the very, very remote chance of ever having to use it.
      As for the pen, I have a minimalist pen in my wallet that is much better than the pen you would get with the Manager and in my wallet makes sense as it is a part of a different system/state, but modular as a whole. I like that pen a lot and it works well in the wallet as opposed to on the keychain with multiple other steps to make the pen useful and not annoying with your keys attached to it.

      Manager is probably the best small victorinox, it has all the useful tools from minichamp. Also gerber dime, for the price is a pretty good tool. Leatherman doesn’t make squirts anymore anyway, I do have one, pliers are excellent but the scissors spring has snapped (common issue).

      Actually, it is the best from the bang. Quality is better than Leatherman, and especially Gerber, and it is most versatile. I used to carry Victorinox, than PS4, but Nextool is more useable. Don't understand the critics of Nextool's knife, it is second only to Victorinox.

    I carried a leatherman supertool 300 for years but eventually lost it (and managed to break one of the drivers). Have carried a dedicated knife and a gerber dime for a few years since. It just works. Have taken bed frames apart with the dime's pliers, had to resharpen blade and box opener, opened many bottles, and occasionally used the drivers. Those tweezers are the best part though. They save you when you need it.

    11:00 The most used tool on ANY multi-tool, large or small, I own. This is what made this Gerber Dime worth it for me when you also consider it's small size & lower cost than the Squirt. Yes, I do use the pliers a lot, but this package opener has saved my fingers from all those ridiculous clamshell boobytrap packages. The file tool on the Dime is worthless in my opinion, which is one of my fave to use on my Victorinox Classic that I also carry. The scissors I also thought was worthless compared to the tiny Victorinox Classic SD, UNTIL I was told that it works better in a left-handed use and, hallelujah, yes it is a lot better when using the left-hand because of where it's placed and I use it for thicker paper or cords to save the blade of my Vix Classic. The blade on the Dime is fine for me, less of a stabber than Leatherman or The Victorinox, but better for actually cutting rope, or thicker things because of the belly it has & it came sharp. I carry at times either the Dime or the Vix Classic in the change pocket in my jeans with a tiny keychain flashlight & it covers 95% of the daily tasks that come up everyday.

    The Victorinox Rambler is the queen. All the tools you actually need, and none of the ones you don't actually need. Since I always carry at least three pens with me wherever I go, two fountain pens and a Fisher Bullet Space Pen as an emergency backup, I prefer the Rambler to the Manager. But, I don't carry my Rambler on my keychain, because I find it awkward to use tools attached to a keychain. I keep a separate tiny pouch in my handbag for my EDC "survival" toolkit. Rambler, flashlight, Space Pen, mini Bic lighter, and a few other bits and bobs that a woman should always have available. I own a Squirt E4, but I don't carry it. It stays in my audio toolbox, for when I have a gig as a sound engineer. Years and years ago, I had a Midnite MiniChamp II, but the truth is, I never used the extra tools. My EDC flashlight has a red auxiliary LED, so I don't miss that.

      @gcvrsa ปีที่แล้ว

    • @StraightForwardReviews
      @StraightForwardReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your reply, I’ve tried to get rid of the keychain bulk by reducing the amount of keys I’m carrying. At this point in time I could probably get away with carrying a 91mm SAK.

    • @danielcluley870
      @danielcluley870 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is it. Rambler works well because it is what you want on a keychain, the other "add on" tools like pliers and can-opener, etc, you are better off having as stand-alone tools, not multi-tool on your key chain if you really want or need them.
      Also, the Rambler layout is ideal because it puts the blade and the scissors in the primary location away from the key ring as opposed to the classic (manager as well, which is great if you don't already have a better pen you carry).

  • @danielcluley870
    @danielcluley870 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I carry a Victorinox Rambler every day and it has now become my go-to. The reason is, I don't want a big form factor or weight, and I have other things I can carry that make a modular system that works well. If I need to I would carry a primary knife and the little knife on a small Vic is not great, but not useless as a backup knife. I keep a Mora and Knipex pliers in my car, usually fairly close to my location, so don't feel the need to carry pliers.
    I kind of feel that the modular and steps of availability system works well where on person you can minimalize and carry less and what is more immediate use and keep close by more useful and heavier/bulkier tools. You can generally get to your vehicle nearby if you need to.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! I'm pretty much only carrying the Knipex Cobra XS, combined with other folders and/or SAKs. Last couple of weeks it's the Cobra in a leather slip (a case for ipod nano lol) in front right pocket, where I have a Spyderco Urban clipped next to that, and a Swisschamp in my 5th pocket! This was after trying out various bit drivers in my 5th pocket with those 2 but I had to add a small SAK anyway - normally the moneyclip also clipped next to the Spydie - plus the driver took up most of that pocket anyway so I just went for the Champ, it has 5 drivers but it's the inline Phillips which is it's major advantage, plus obviously good scissors. Having said that for a more slimmed down carry I'm looking to buy a Minichamp Alox and carry that as an alternative to the Swisschamp. Other pairings with Knipex are Climber and Farmer X. All of those combos serve me better than a full size multitool, or mini multitool plus a folder.

The quality on the one I’ve just received is fine and the tools far superior to for instance the undersized ones of the Leatherman. Scissors are fantastic, the blade very sharp out of the box. I often carry both a Minichamp and a Leatherman PS4 and actually had both of them with me in my chair while watching. I used tp carry the Leatherman ES4 which is the same as the PS4 but changes from standard plyers for Electricians plyers which has various wirestrippers and a very tiny plyer end for bending wires.
    I would agree that the Minichamp with the pen is the best choice out of what you have here but for the average person I agree that that the Manager is probably the best solution. If they would add the clamshell package opener to it it would be damn near perfect. My only gripe about the Manager and Classic SD is the screwdriver added to the file instead the nail cleaner which is what they still have on the minichamp because they moved the "SD" end too the ruler.
    As for an "Orange Peeler" it is a separate tool found only on the Victorinox 74mm Executive that was retired a few years ago. Which is a shame cause a lot of people liked them. I actually have 3, 1 user and 2 spares since they dont make them anymore(you can still get them on the secondary market sometimes). They have one of the best Nail file/cleaners Victorinox makes.

      The midnite manager or Rambler or Minichamp are complemented perfectly by the Knipex Cobra XS which are way more robust and the capability to be used as an adjustable wrench and even an indestructible pry bar, and at least where I am they cost a lot less than the Style PS. As it is I carry the Cobra with a Swisschamp, but for summer carry I'm looking to switch to a Minichamp Alox. Done with keychain pliers multitools since the scissor spring on my Squirt broke. Even the ones on the 91mm like on your Deluxe Tinker are fairly small and limited in application although they are imo better than the ones on Dime/Squirt/Mini Flagship as you have more reach and lateral leverage - but you can't torque or twist on them , but neither should you do that on folding multitool pliers which are only ever as strong as the pivots joining the head to the handles. Bad luck mate! It's discontinued. Whitby Knives are the official UK LM dealership to whom you send broken tools under warranty, I checked with them and they confirmed that if I send mine in - the scissors spring on it broke - they can't replace it, instead I would get a Micra back. I may do it even though I'm not too impressed with the Micra either but I suppose it would make a cool combo together with my LM Bond which lacks scissors. Honestly I would recommend trying out the Knipex Cobra XS pliers, about £23 here. They are demonstrably better than the pliers on any mutitool even larger ones, unless you want to cut wire. You can pair them up with a small SAK, medium SAK with toolset of your choice, or with a folder and separate gear like bit driver, heck I even carry mine with the Swisschamp and a Spyderco for a UK legal config that will outperform any Leatherman, let alone the Squirt lol. It works as an adjustable spanner very very well, and also as an indestructible prybar - it's forged, German made, and I think the only way to destroy it is by dropping it in a steel furnace.

      Good scissors on the PS4? Man mine had so much blade play that they couldn't cut hair or thread, it just folded sideways between the blades, and forget thicker material like cotton cloth, cardboard, paracord etc. That was before the spring broke, now they're completely useless. The issue of inadequate heat treatment on the PS4 scissor spring has been there for over a decade and they never bothered to resolve it despite it being widely known. Instead they just discontinued it as they made a loss on it, since for every one they sold they had to send at least another one for free as warranty replacement. Now if I send mine in I'll get a Micra back which isn't a bad exchange as it will pair up nicely with my Bond but it ain't ideal.

    Can't speak on the others but I have the Dime. Great little tool for minimal cost.
    The scissors are pretty decent especially if you press your thumb a little off center that causes the blades to push against each other as they close down on what your cutting.
    Love the package opener also a good box cutter.
    Flathead driver is decent, also better as prybar than bottle opener.
    Bottle opener works well, also good as attachment point for lanyard or key ring, better than the designated attachment point. The tiny key ring stretches and deforms over time, so I attached a regular size keyring to the bottle opener and put a small caribiner clip on it so I can hook it to my belt loop.
    The knife is pretty decent, mine came pretty sharp, but I wouldn't use it for anything heavy duty. I use my Griptilian I have to cut thick rope or zip ties at work, but the Dime blade comes in real handy for smaller precision cuts, almost like an Xacto blade.
    Pliers are decent for small jobs like untieing knots or pulling out splinters, in fact, the precision at the tip is so good, I never really need the tweezers lol. Just don't squeeze them too hard on something or the handle will slip at the pivot point the opposite direction it folds. Luckily I was able to force it back to the right position and it still works.
    The Philips driver is decent but, as mentioned in the video, the file is a joke lol.
    Over all great little tool I've used almost every day for over 5 or 6 years. The color is faded and worn but still works great.

    The choice in the 58 mm Victorinox is large. Possibly the best are the Rambler which adds the multi-tool Philips screw driver to the Classic SD (knife, file and scissors). It retains the slots for tweeters and toothpick. The Midnite Manager that has the small ball point and :LED torch in the scales. The tweeters and toothpick can be purchased separately and a simple case sown up to hold them and protect the knife. I added a pin as well. The mini champ has more than one tool included that few if anyone would use.
    Going up in size to a 74mm the Ambassador gives a larger blade, scissors and nail file and adds the "orange peeler" with the flat head screw driver.
