    This is the best way to teach pronunciation. When she uses the English language equivalent of each letter, it strips away the mystery and shows you already know how to pronounce the letter based on a word in which you already use it.

    Hi, Elena, fine presentation, but I have to mention one oversight and one suggestion so that your students can better relate and remember the concepts.
    You missed the Russian letter "H" (n) on the early part of your presentation and it would be of great help if you could write in small letters right under the Russian
    letters the English sound equivalent; you have it all in your head, but your new English speaking students do not.
    Thank you.

    • @Wonderaccent
      @Wonderaccent  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Good practice is to listen to audio minimal pairs with these 2 sounds and train your ear.

    • @CitroTeam
      @CitroTeam 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The sound is similar but Щ start with a S. Something like that. The google translater help a lot. You tipe de letter Щ, then clik the button hear\listen. Repeat for Ш .

    • @Dragonfyre2009
      @Dragonfyre2009 7 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      It took a while for me as well. The key for me was two words - shoe (ш) and sheep (щ). Say the two words slowly, exaggerating the sh sound at the beginning and note carefully how your mouth naturally forms to start to say each word. You'll notice that your lips and teeth are in different positions for each and the щ sound for sheep sounds higher pitched. Hopefully this will help you. I still have problems with ы. I can do it OK on its own, but in the middle of words I have trouble. It will come with practice!

    • @christinesizemore3
      @christinesizemore3 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've found that having taken a class in linguistics really helps me differentiate between the more similar-sounding letters and vowel sounds. A lot of it has to do with mouth shape and tongue placement.
