Morrissey's lyrics are often so clear and straightforward that it's impossible not to relate to, even if your life circumstances are completely different from his. He's not actually a poet, not in the traditional sense of this term at least, because poets love flourished and artificial language, while Moz's language is always natural and always brutally honest. He reminds me of Leonard Cohen in this regard, even though they are not musically related. Maybe it's because his life experiences, that lead to his writing his painful lyrics, are much more relatable than the wild fantasies and never ending party lives of 'traditional' rock stars. Here we have a real man, talking about real situations, in a real world, not a piece of fiction. He may sound exaggerated and even over-dramatic sometimes, but if you think how many people feel exactly like him, but are afraid of ever letting their true souls, their true feelings exposed, you will feel grateful because there are artists like him. He somehow manages to make the harsh reality of human existence more tolerable by exposing it just as it is, and I don't know how he manages it, because generally we crave for an escape, we crave for illusions. Maybe we should think of this as part of his charm, part of his charisma, as part of the mystery that makes him the fantastic singer-songwriter that he is. Long live, Moz, dear friend.

While not a Big album, I always felt it's partly underrated. I think Wide to Recieve is a quite moving ballad, Roy's Keen works despite/because of the silly word-play, and Satan Rejected... is a fun rocker. But I agree that Alma is the best track.
