A magical moment, plasa's determination to raise the bar for not only himself but the sport as a whole caused this. So many motorsport fans neglect the hard work of Georg and Reto as engineers not just drivers. If Reto can make it to Pikes peak the world would have a rude awakening.

That’s one bad ass Mercedes with that Judd engine sick sound. But it takes that man in the seat to get it around and up that hill like no other. That man can drive sick wit it. Thanks for the entertainment.
We call it, Monster Hill Climb F1 car. I never seen a footage from inside the car that have marvelous stability like this car, its so similar with the DTM car. The engine and transmission is perfectly match for the track! Awesome.
Truly impressive result and what a drive from Reto. As a fan of both Reto Meisel and Georg Plasa,i'm really glad that it's Meisel who broke the record. And of course,SLK is just phenomenal.Forget DTM,GT's and whatnot-they're nowhere spectacular and fast like this snarling beast.
Great video of a well set up car being driven by someone who knows his car and knows how to drive it to the Max. Thank you for sharing the moments between man and machine.
You're new to hillclimb, aren't you? I think I've been hearing Judd engines at this hillclimb since I was a little boy!! And trust me, sounds better nearby, especially the outside sound, video sound doesn't make it true justice because it doesn't even make your body vibrate with low frequencies. This is the kind of sound that creates petrolheads, it's very addictive: the more you hear it accelerate, the more you want it to accelerate :)
PrimiusLovin , We definitely don’t have a lot of Hillclimb here in the States. Maybe Pikes and a few others. Here in SoCal. the automotive scene is cool but miss out on a ton of Motorsports they have in Europe etc. Especially if you are into Rally etc like I am. The level of “race cars” out there is different too. You’re a lucky man getting to grow up with that stuff in your backyard! You’re stoked....
Normal that it goes faster than Georg since his car is more powerful. In addition, Reto drove this car for several years while when Georg set the record it was his first season with the 134 JUDD. When you have the car well in hand it is much easier to set a record. Also, Georg's cars were very difficult to drive. Georg was a much better driver. It was important to emphasize it. Rest in peace Georg.
Looks like the rpm is higher than before. I think the exaust does only make the difference with the BMW. Impressive work gentleman you can be proud of yourself. This is absolutely amazing engineering.

I wish the cam could be set up a little higher so that we can see this incredible run a little bit clearly, with less over exposure. Hopefully this type of racing get more coverage and appreciation in the future. Hillclimb events are far more exciting than most modern car racing these days imho. Thumps up
Trust us, we made our best to arrange the best possible setup for the camera, but the way the roll bar is positioned and the fact it is integral part of the chassis and shakes violently all the way through an entire run makes it super difficult to get a better way to capture onboard footage. Also, the intense sunlight on this race also didn´t help. But for sure we will keep working on it to bring even better footage on the future ;)
@@HillClimbMonsters I know it must be quite a hustle to get a good set up with limited position for the cam on the roll cage. That's why I said 'could', not 'should'. I appreciate your efforts in covering all hillclimb events tho. So far, this is the best channel for hillclimbs imo. Keep the good works ;)
That ride gave me chills ! Thanks, I appreciate it. Good luck in your future runs and if you ever get to Pikes Peak, I will make sure to watch a new record being set. Kudos brother, you drove the tarmac off that road. ✌n ❤
@@Underdose These engines in fact are built to withstand 24 hours of ininterrupted Racing. Not common for Hillclimb Racing, but that´s how great these power units are. Originally built for Endurance Racing and still light and powerful enough for extreme Sprint Racing ;)
I hate it when people compare European small block v8s to American v8s, When the BMW m5 v10 came out, I remember reading a comparison in a magazine with a corvette engine. The American V8 though more capacity was lighter and produced more power and torque down low, cheaper to produce, to service, more economical, same horsepower with a less stressed lower revving motor. Nothing wrong with modern American V8s, nothing wrong with pushrod either. Nascar v8 engines also do high revs and also sound great, but in a different way. Weigh about the same too. Both are good in their own way, let's not be fanboys.
I think that's faster than what a superbike could go round them bends and try to accelerate again as the SLK 340 beast has mad downforce and grip to slingshot itself out of the corners at that incredible speed.
