Some of those buildings look like a great starting point for dual zoning. They are just begging to be residential towers on top of commercial and office bases.

They have these two statues outside the New York Stock Exchange building, not a panda bear, but a regular brown bear.
Interestingly, there is no bear statue at the New York Stock Exchange... Good old fashioned American optimism. There are both a bull and a bear outside the Frankfurt exchange, however.

Think I’ll pass on this DLC. Feel like it could have done with more of an overhaul to the crime system. Maybe with criminals doing heists or something, so if you haven’t placed many police stations around you could potentially lose lots of money if you aren’t prepared. This would also provide more functionality to the banks. I feel like money isn’t really a problem once I have my first lvl 5 industry and my residential is levelled up a bit, so new ways to make money just seems kinda redundant to me. It sounds weird but I feel like many players would appreciate more ways to lose money, it would make players think and plan out builds a bit more if there were more ways for things to go wrong.

The financial pack is somthing I never expected to see in cities skylines. I feel like I will use it for making my city look better, rather than stock exchanges.
From what I know, in NYC specifically (but potentially other big cities) you can buy the space above a building in order to expand, since there's very little buildable land left on the island. Which is where I imagine all of the glass upgrades comes from, since that is how architecture has evolved - they're not going to build up beautiful old stone buildings to the same height etc.
What you're referring to are NYC's "air rights", which is a process by which a nearby building can purchase the air rights of another to allow them to expand into the air above a building that may not want to expand vertically. It results in nearby buildings having overhangs that cantilever over older and shorter buildings, but it doesnt make it so that an older building develops an ugly glass tower directly conjoined with itself above it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_rights
those older looking buildings with glass towers are very common in places like NYC and Toronto, where the older financial district needs development but they don't want to get rid of the classic feel of the original district, so they keep the front facades and basically build on top of them.
In my own personal view, the original colors of the game are already very cartoonish and dark, horrendously dark, and they added a new even darker LUT, like, whatahell And I must say I just loved how "VIBRANT" LUT is just, color fckd black shaded, again, what does Paradox Interactive have against sunlight and brighter shadows?
The “Bull andPanda” at 3:52 refers to how the stocks are doing. A Bull attacks upward which means a “Bull Market” and people sell stocks while the price is high. Bears attack by swiping downward so a “Bear Market” means the price of stocks is low so you’re supposed to buy stocks. Hope that helps explain the statues lol
This is awesome, props to creative minds & more additions to boost an aging game. P.s. You neglected to show stock exchange building does actually level up! Thanks for another gr8 vid
Thanks for this excellent no nonsense informative video that clearly displays the new assets included in this latest expansion pack. it looks great! The Bull and the "panda" which is actually a BEAR represent the terms used by financiers to describe the current state of the financial markets.
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG It was helpful insofar as it confirmed I definitely don’t want it. Ugly assets and pointless mechanics to slow the game down even more.
The "cow" and "panda" statue refer to the financial term "bull market" (where the prices are rising or expected to rise for a prolonged period) and "bear market" (where the prices are declining or expected to decline for a prolonged period). As for the buildings with glass superstructures on top of stone "foundations", I think they take inspiration from some of the building here in New York City. Due to the narrow street and busy traffic, it is easier to build on top of existing structure than tear it down then rebuild, some developers may opt for this method to shorten the construction period. This would put heavier duty on the architectural design aspect of the process. Overall I think I will get the DLC, it's nice that they finally added the industry that I work in LOL. Thanks for the content like always!
LOVE that we can changed the plazas like that! I think that's great! Great overview, Egg, thank you! Looking forward to your search tabs on the new tier list video. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not sure if this was mentioned, but Stock Exchange building has 2 additional levels, that changes its overall aesthetic, similar to the leveling system to the assets you've shown.
The bull is because people who think the market is generally groing are called "Bulls". People who think the market is generally shrinking are refered to a "Bears". So a Bull and Bear statue makes sense. You'll hear things like "Merril Mynch is Bullish on this stock so you should buy" and similar.
I think the aesthetic actually is pretty neat, probably worth paying for a mini-DLC. In Storm City these sorts of add-on towers would be very common since half its inhabitants fly (in canon, not, sadly, in game mechanics) and can land directly in the towers, but that's a very unique circumstance. In the Real World, you do see this some times in cities that want to preserve historic old buildings but need to build more, and can't simply clear more land. The financial minigame is pretty much a total dud, as you pointed out. It's *already* far too easy to make $ in this game - adding more *challenge* to the financial model would have been a far better choice. If you absolutely love playing hard mode, this might make it marginally easier, but that's about it. it can be cheesed at will. And it's especially weird coming after Plazas and Promenades, whose pedestrian districts are money-printing machines all by themselves. (One of my villages is all-pedestrian, and my income went from -100K to +250K as soon as I finished plopping houses down). If you like the building aesthetics, get it, otherwise, it's a soft pass.
