  • Tarpon fishing at the Tampa Bay Skyway Bridge is a always an awesome event. Every Spring, the mighty Silver King makes his annual journey North along the Florida Coast. One of the several pit stops is Tampa Bay. When the fish start piling into the bay, they often end up in huge schools at the Skyway Bridge in the lower part of Tampa Bay. Before the big Hill Tides of late spring, the tarpon feed heavily on the big schools of threadfin herring that have also poured into the bay. Using cut threadfins to chum up the tarpon and drifting back big pieces of cut bait and some live bait is a great way to hookup on the Silver King.
    In this video I linked up with Captain Matt Luttman of Inshore Action Charters ( inshoreactioncharters.com ) and his good friend Jessie to put in some work on tarpon. The bite was really good and we all worked together to make it happen.

    I saw that boat out their there. Awesome! I just move my boat away if i see someone's fish coming to close in my direction. I'll tell you this, when I'm hooked up, I enjoy not having to pass my rod under somebody else's anchor line

      @@HeadFirstFishing , this video was great , not only informative but the slow mo shots and jumps were excellent, even when capt. mat took a shot to the head “ouch” ! You might have to get some instruction from Cliff at St Pete Outfitters, and a flyrod not only for tarpon but every day fishing , it’s next level, you just got a new Sub 👍🏼

      @@HeadFirstFishing my favorite is just learning the methods used to catch them at the bridge. Ive always caught them around Egmont with crabs and never knew exactly how they caught them consistently at the Skyway! Learned a ton through this video! Making me want to hit the bridge now to try it out.

    Great video joe! How much threadfin do you need to fish like that? And how much chum did you put out?

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll need about 5 gallons cut up per hour of fishing. We tossed over some chum every 20 to 30 seconds. Just keep it steady without burning through it too fast.

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We fished for about 4 hrs and went through probably 3 or 4 buckets. Hooked probably 12 fish and chased half of them.

    pound for pound does a tarpon or a blacktip rip more line?
