Mining gave me no merits sadly few days ago. I've tried to sell all gathered materials in an expansion system, maybe i did something wrong... Only frontier knows
I am hoping for a point of clarification on the Merits system: Do players need to first complete the 'Weekly Assignments' in order to be eligible to collect merits from other activities? Or, do these assignments simply serve as suggested content which are optional, allowing players to freely engage with other merit activities at their leisure? Overall I really like this system, and the Power Play rebalance. But, I don't see myself wanting to complete 5 weekly chores every week in order to open the other content I want to engage with. And I have not engaged with this system enough to be able to answer the question above. I appreciate any efforts on a clarification. Thank you
The first sets of assignments were mandatory to start ranking up, but any merits I made before completing those assignments were still counted retroactively when I "unlocked" ranking up.
Ok. So years of honestly earned exploration data is the biggest problem that is happening in the game and a unbalanced abuse that needed to be balanced by FDev ASAP. WoW. I am absolutely impressed. No further questions.

Man they nerf a loot of things this week XD, I think devs don't think to well the merit system, I was lazy and still managed to get 128000+ merits and rank 19, in the Aisling ranking, the first two in the top 10 have already passed rank 100, and the rest are above rank 60, I think they didn't see it coming XD
I got 7th place on Aislings list. And got rewarded with double the amount of assignments.. Sorry if I stole someone else Homework (the assignments suck and give too few merits).
So let me get this straight: FDev had a problem with people handing in their painstakingly and honestly collected Exploration Data but has no problems with Players (ab)using their Fleet Carriers for Rare Goods trading to earn hundreds of thousands of Merits and in some cases, over a Million Merits in a single week? 🤦

You can make merits wthout even paying attention to tasks.

Ranking systems biggest flaw is that someone somewhere is going to grind through much faster than anticipated.
