      I love my 16mm f1.4 but I find myself mainly using my x100V these days so really interested in these additions

    Thank you for this video! It was exactly what I was looking for, and I’ve now picked up the TCL II - while I wait for the backordered X100V to arrive. (I have an X100T until then.)

    Great video, I've recently bought the x100vi and now thinking whether to sell my venerable X-T30 with a lineup of fuji lenses, the 18-55, 15-45, 35 f32 and 23 f2. From my own brief comparison, the colors pop a bit more on the x100vi, there is a tad more contrast and depth, maybe it's the sensor, don't know. It's also a bit newer with better controls, and I enjoy using it more. I also value the IBIS and the ND more than the ability to swap lenses, the IBIS especially, it enables me to capture low light without camera shake. The lack of ibis was a serious limitation on the x-t30. The overall package of the x100vi is smaller and the only thing I would be giving up is the sweet 35mm f2 that I fell in love with the X-T30, but this video helped me consider the TCL as a good alternative to the options I had on the X-T30. The other thing is that I never liked the 23f2 rendering, even though it's a more flexible prime than the 35 f2. The x100vi has much nicer character to me, and not so much soft haze wide open and close up. The 18-55 was really versatile, but It made the camera heavy and clunky for just walking around, it was also not as sharp (at least my second-hand copy). So I might just sell the x-t30 with all the lenses and get a TCL converter to get back the 35 for portraits when I need it.

    So grateful for this video! I have the x100v/tcl combo but I’m constantly tempted by the fujicrons. This helps me resist! I do enjoy the tcl, it’s just a little clunky and I do notice a bit of image quality loss from the 23mm in the camera alone. I’m actually surprised you found it performed so well compared the the 35 f/2.

    • @FamauMedia
      @FamauMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's much newer than the XF35mm at the end of the day, probably some new technology involved in the manufacturing process 💁‍♂️

    Hey Ben, new sub all the way from sunny South Wales here 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 I cannot get over how much I enjoy the output of the tcl. I’ve had the 35mm f2 & previously the 35 1.4 before trading systems for my main ICL camera. However, the the tcl on the V has a characteristic/bokeh and overall quality that the 35mm f2 just can’t achieve. I was dubious ordering one after trying the cheap man’s wcl with the x70 adapter and the sharpness was terrible, like using a previous x100 sensor. Thankfully the tcl is sharp as you’d like with greater/more pleasing bokeh, I even love the flaring in the image. Picked it up at a steal on eBay and it’s been on my x100v for 2 weeks since getting it, enjoyed your vid along with others before subbing. cheers mate! Tony

    Thanks for this comparison! Looking forward to getting it. Already have the XF35 f2 and 35 f1.4 and well... I just want the lens that feels good in the moment. But what I'm really looking forward to is to bring just the X100V on trips or friend visits and then have the TCL in a pouch that I put on when it's portrait time 🙂
    To me the front of the lens is so pronounced it looks a bit like a fish-eye lens or the end of a periscope, and I think psychologically that help my subjects feel more 'seen' than the industrial efficiency look of the 35 F2. the 1.4 might be a nice in-between and probably the best, but it feels like I have to charge ppl for the pictures I take with it and I want to be able to hobby too 🙂

    Thanks! quite interesting observations. I have a Fujifilm X100S (whose lens is a bit similar to the X100V I think), although I know it is not the ideal I am using it to "scan" my film negatives with a Marumi +5 achromatic filter, I'd like a tcl-x100 to get a bit closer and to shoot with the 50mm equivalent focal length. For what I see I would not getting much difference for the macro mode, but still I will get it for that 50mm equivalent framing : )

    i didn't noticed if you talked about WR. Would I get the weather sealing with the X100V + TCL ?

    • @FamauMedia

      The manual doesn't mention it, but I'm sure you'd be fine. Slap a filter on the front if you're wary 💁‍♂️

      @@FamauMedia thanks for the answer. Do you mean we can slap a filter on the 23 lens and then put the converter ?

    Great video. Ive seen quite a bit of criticism for this converter but it seems that it’s due to having it mounted on the older x100’s 23mm lens. Whereas the new 23mm on the V is allowing this converter to perform much better naturally.

    I need to revisit my tcl adapter vs my 35 f2. I’ve used the tcl for paid work and the clients all commented how beautiful their prints came out, but since then something has swayed me to use the f2 on the xt2 more often and funny enough I didn’t get those same comments on the printed images like I did with the x100v and tcl. There’s a certain quality in the images from the x100v that i can’t quite put my finger on, but maybe clients see that quality too. Or maybe I shoot different with that camera. I wish I could figure it out lol

      For me personally it's also super interesting how the camera looks and feels to the person being photographed. And also: the way you hold and use it. I see the XF 35mm F2 as more of a powertool, and I hope the TCL will feel more like... like a paintbrush 🙂I don't have it yet but looking forward to getting it and trying it.
      There's such a poetic quality to using the tool that makes you feel good when using it vs the tool that gets the job done the quickest or 'best'

  • @Cagey7531
    @Cagey7531 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good comparison, but it really only concerns people who own an X100V and maybe fancy having the 35 also. I owned the XF35, used it on my X-H1, found it decent but never mind blowing. I sold it off and more recently bought the much cheaper XC35F2, as 35mm is just a general purpose for me, not an always on lens. Happy to say the XC version is identical optically, sure it's not WR or built as strong, but for a casual pop on and off lens where end results matter more, it's a steal.

    • @FamauMedia
      @FamauMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made the video for those people, and anyone brand new to Fujifilm who like shooting a "50mm" 💁‍♂️
      The XC does look a cracking, more budget friendly lens. My original plan was to take mine out in all weathers, so the XF made more sense.
      Thanks for watching!
