    Since I picked up the Fujifilm X-S10 as my new vlogging camera, I saw this as a good opportunity to test out my X100V against Fujifilm's great little f/2 prime lenses. First up is the XF 23mm f/2 R WR, which I picked up second-hand a couple of weeks ago. Let's get testing!

    Thanks for the useful comparison video.
    I have never used an X100 camera.
    I own and use the XF 23mm f/2 R WR and I own and use with the Fujinon 23mm f/1.4 lens.
    I primarily use the f/1.4 for photojournalism, documentary, low-light, and weddings. I primarily use the f/2 for street, landscapes, and vacation/travel. I use both for infrared photography.
    I need to perform a comparison test like you did in this video.

    Great video. I have both. The biggest difference for me is video autofocus chatter/noise of the X100V vs the almost silent XF 23mm f2, even when using an external mic.

    Hey Ben,
    thanks for the comparison. I have the same setup and using my X-T2 and X-S10 almost exclusively with my XF 23mm f2 drove me towards the X100V.
    I can confirm your results and yes the X100V is softer in the corners but it comes with so many other advantages. Not to mention the build quality...
    If you put them side by side there is no question which one you grab first :-)

    Nice comparison Ben. I’m hoping they release an updated version of the 23mm f2 that’s in line with the newer lens in the x100. I’ve just picked up the 16mm f2.8 and I’m loving it so far. Weird how about 2 years ago I didn’t like primes and now I find myself always using them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Thanks Rich! I love using primes, very rarely touch any of my zoom lenses these days. They’re handy at times especially if you’re just using one body, but otherwise I prefer the extra light gathering & sharpness most primes can offer 🤓

    It’s truly incredible how TH-cam has an answer for every question. Having said that I don’t understand why Fuji doesn’t just make a lens that is exactly like the x100v lens.

    • @jaegerschtulmann
      @jaegerschtulmann ปีที่แล้ว

      simple, it would have the same dimensions as the xf 23 f2 WR. Remember built-in lenses have optics that go inside of the camera body, that's why they appear to be so compact but in fact they are quite similar.

    I picked up my X-S10 £650 used, very happy with that! - plus a Viltrox 23mm F1.4 for £250 which kills the X100V in most categories. I also bought the 18-55 lens for travel and 27mm pancake for when I want something ultra compact. The X100V is small but the X-S10 with the pancake lens is nearly as small. I just don't understand the appeal of the X100V.

    • @FamauMedia
      @FamauMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I bought it as a daily, take everywhere camera - I used to spend far too much time thinking about different focal lengths etc, carried all my gear and took less photos. The X100V solved that for me - I've been shooting more and coming home with photos I'm much happier with 🤓

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FamauMedia Ha, that's a fair point. I make it a rule never to bring more than 2 lenses with me (1 on the body and 1 in my bag), maybe I should reduce that to 1 lens! - I can totally relate though, I bought the body with just the 35mm F2 and I adored it, now I have way too many lenses!

    • @marcp.1752
      @marcp.1752 ปีที่แล้ว

      It kills nothing, the XS-10 with fatman 23/1.4 Viltrox is a ton bigger, less build quality and especially not as stylish, as X100 series. The Viltrox 23/1.4 is is more a "meh" lens, luke-warm, optically it does have it's flaws, can't compete as cheap lens with the Fujinon XF 23/1.4 R for real...Enjoy your combo, but the X100 series is not for you, you don't understood it's purpose, nevermind.

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcp.1752 It kills it in most categories, as in filming self/selfies (flip out screen), vlogging (ibis), wildlife (ability to swap lenses, IBIS), studio (ability to swap lenses, flip out is useful), etc, etc while being almost as small/light for travel with the right lens combo. The 23mm Viltrox is a great video lens, not photo lens, it has a much better auto focus than the older Fuji primes, for travel/photo I also have the Samyang 12mm F2 and 35mm Fuji F2 to get some unique shots without a lot of extra weight. When I travel light it's the 27mm pancake.
      It's funny, the person I bought my XS-10 from bought an X100V and emailed me a month later saying he's selling it and buying another XS-10 because it's virtually as portable but kills the X100V in so many categories.

    X100 at least cameras piror to X100F, the rendering are soft and a bit "zoom-in" than a 35mm vision imo. But talking about the whole camera, the reangefinder style control and the OVF. The X100 series has no competiors.!!!!

    Is it weird if I really want/wish for a fuji X100V but with a 18-35mm lens (27-52mm full frame equivalent)? I know the point of this camera is to have fix lens but still... that would be my dream camera. Maybe if they make the 15-45mm old kit lens a f/2.8 aperture lens (or f/2.8-4). One can dream.
    Maybe I should get the XPro3 with the 18-55mm f/2.8-4? Is not having a prime with an XPro a sin? 😂

      Agreed, autofocus even in single afs is very unreliable. It gives you a green focus ok box, but misses way too often.
      Probom is very evident with targets in the 5 plus meters away. Just activate the focus scale and see for yourself. Focus on something in the 2 meter range, then change to an objective at 10 meter and back again. Do this a few times at 5.6 or smaller like F8, you will see autofocus miss a lot on the far end. It will lock focus at 3 meters, while the object is more then 5 metered away. It will focus at less then 10 meters where it should hit infinity. In short the original leica q with contrast based autofocus in afs is at least 10 times more reliable. Same goes for the old xt1. It's not super fast but more then fast enough for street, and reliable.
