Blast from the past, reminds me of Sundays in the 80's when we had 25 guys riding mx bikes on my local single track. Man, the people who lived in the area had to be loosing their minds. Cool bike and great riding.
@@Garage2Trail it’s probably because I’ve only got into trail & mx bikes in the last year or so,always had road bikes,I still have my Suzuki gt750 & my mk 1 1200 bandit, the trail bike thing inspired me after watching 2 guys on a 69 dt250 & a 75 xl 350 Honda ride across Wyoming,i then bought a 73 Yamaha dt175,enjoyed getting that up & running after being stored for 45 years, all done, just some small adjustments to make & its done
Man that bike sure does bring back fun memories! I never had a PE, a friend of mine did but it was the 175. I had an '82 RM125. We used to have tons of great places to ride around here back then, gravel pits, woods trails, hills, etc. Great fun, the sound of your bike is exactly as I remember the old two strokes, so nice!
That’s awesome! This bike reminds me of my ‘79 RM80 (my first bike) that I had in ‘93 when I was 13. Loud and wild with unbridled power when that power band kicks in!
@@Garage2Trail Oh yes I do remember the old RM80's too (and the RM100's)! My RM125 was like that too, power was crazy but fun. It was either on or off. Low rpm it had nothing whatsoever, or just enough to get you moving, then the power band hit and it was crazy good fun! It would climb steep hills no problem but you had to be in the power to do it. Much later on I got into four strokes and still have four strokes, but it would really be nice to find an old two stroke to ride again.
I always called it “light switch power” lol. That RM80 had zero low end power but when it was in the power band it would climb stuff or throw me off in the process lol
Thanks! I really enjoy this PE. The XTrainer is probably the best woods bike for ultra technical riding I’ve ever been on a side for a full blown trials bike! You’re gonna love it.
Oh man, you hooked me on that bike I’m heading to York in January if there’s one available I’m bringing it home and I know just the guy to contact if I’ve got issues lol
Once they got the rear shock stuff sorted in the early 80’s, bikes have ridden well since. That one has that half way there rear shock set up and must ride way better than just a few years earlier model.
In that era, I rode a husky 250 XC. Certainly thought my husky was better, but I was also jealous. When during a race I would get a back tire that was flat and a Suzuki rider would change a rear wheel before he could sneeze. It looks like that must’ve come out a year or two after your model.
Amazing for a 45-yr old bike! Cylinder sounds a bit rattly/metallic. Maybe just needs a hone and new rings, slightly higher oil ratio. Those bikes also need old school gearbox oil. No synthetics or additives, maybe higher viscosity 20w40 to help old bearings. I remember some guys would put truck diesel in the gearbox, not a good idea for longevity but ok for race day
Shiiiiitt not many know about them PE's today. Those were known to be a pretty pissed off machine in her day. I never got on a 250 but I did ride this ol'timers built 125. And i shit you not it had a pair for a 125. Id say not quite up to par with like a KDX but no doubt an awesome woods machine
There's zero chance that cylinder was still in spec. Old sleeved cylinders re-boreing is maintenance. Just replacing a piston into a worn oval cylinder is risking snagging rings and cracking piston skirts. Having a dial bore gauge to check cylinders is a must, sleeved cylinders will wear far past spec. Before there's any noticeable compression loss.

I was concerned with just me lol…couldn’t imagine that many in one spot 😆
Bet you would love to do it all again
@@Garage2Trail Might sound weird, but it was a different time. The air cooled KTM's were the worst, so loud and obnoxious!
Awesome ride, love the scenery,I actually found myself ducking under the branches & trying to lift the front wheel over the logs😁,super job mate
Thanks! I’m glad it’s that immersive to watch!

So enjoy your videos! Love those old Suzuki 2 smokes!
Finally got my Beta x trainer last weekend, and loving the tracktorism… lol 🏍️👍

You know it! 😆
Oh boy! Stay on target, you need a vintage trials bike first.
Looks like fun! Love the bike!
Thanks, yeah it’s a blast back there!

This bike is surprisingly well suspended for being 45 years old and with dual shocks. They definitely did something right!
Good ride. I was sketched out when you were going over the rip rap on the dam and in the creek, but it was awesome.
Thanks Chuck!
What a workout I bet you slept great
Oh, I did lol
So much fun this old Bike - happy for You❤
Thank you!
Thing done pretty good 👍
Looks like fun
Woods weapon !
It is!

That’s cool, I love hearing from the guys that had these or remember the bikes I have in the videos. Makes me appreciate them that much more.

Yeah I think it may need a top end. A bit noisy but it runs strong still. I’ve been running Shell rotella in my old bikes. 15w-40. Always works great.
Not bad for a 45 year old bike.
It surpassed my expectations!

This bike has become one of my favorite vintage woods bikes. I’d like to give a KDX a try sometime too

I haven’t opened this one up yet but plan to inspect it at some point soon.
10 miles on a dual shocker? How sre your kidneys?
Surprisingly not too beaten up after this ride. The bike is well suspended and very comfortable.
