I served in the Regular Army for almost 30 years and, like many before me, laid some of my comrades to rest. When I am laid to rest is so real for me. As I paraded yesterday I remembered the countless men and women who fell in battle. May they rest in eternal peace their duty done

It saddens me, the comments people make. They’re so disrespectful and right-wing, it hurts.
These wars were fought so that we could all be free to make comments like these; lest we be living in a world dominated by the Axis or Central powers, we’d have our homes raided if we’d make a comment that the government doesn’t like.
They’d tap the phone lines, and corporal punishment/torture would be commonplace. Women would be second class citizens, as would anyone from Asian or African descent. Our economy and political structure would be in the firm grip of Germany, and we’d be no more than a puppet state.
Please be grateful for what these brave men fought for; don’t be selfish.

Here are the graves of many commonwealth soldiers who died in Malaya and Singapore from WW2 onwards. Part of the memorial are lists of the Indian soldiers who were cremated as per Indian custom. These lists are as lovingly tendered as the graves of British and ANZAC soldiers.
