I picked this up last weekend for $40 and immediately started watching the first movie and some of the special features on the first disk. I had to watch Conquest after that and all I can say is wow! I had forgotten how dark and intense that movie was! The directors cut ending only helped add to that feeling!
I just bought myself a copy of this boxset on blu ray. You were right about the price. Found myself a copy that's just around $50. Can't wait to check them out in order and get to the different version of Conquest of Planet of the Apes. I've been putting it off from buying the dvd boxset for years, but I end up buying the blu ray edition since it seems to be better. I guess it was smart of me to have put off the dvd version.
well, it finally happened. I got a blu ray player. This one is awesome since it has a built in VCR and plays DVDs. I'm hoping to get this boxset as my first blu ray purchase.
I just got my copy and I'm thrilled. They did release all five movies on separate blu ray, with the same content in each correct? As a kid, I actually had the misfortune in dropping in my parent's room where my dad had been watching the first film and it was already at the end scene. I saw the twist ending before watching the whole movie, but I've loved the movie since then.
I just got this last week on amazon for $40 and because the Canadian dollar is almost at par with the US it made it an even better deal. I'm not a fan of the Apes but I'm hoping this set will change my mind since I've really only ever seen the original movie.
I just picked up the Mel Brooks Collection on blu ray which is perhaps equally as good as this set. 9 films by are on it with an awesome book. It goes for $100, but got it for half that at a borders that was closing.
My only nitpick for this boxset is the audio commentary for the first film. They just reuse dialogue from the actors in documentary Beneath the Planet of the Apes. I don't mind hearing from Roddy or Kim Hunter, but wish this audio commentary was made by film historian giving us new info on the movie series not included in the other features.
@Zaranyzerak have to agree with you one the ape head. i dont have anywhere to display it either. thanks for the review just bought it off amazon after watching it (y)
It's ironic that you zoomed in on Beneath the Planet of the Apes to demonstrate the stupid little knob that holds the disc in place. I went to watch Beneath this afternoon, only to discover that it had cracked last time I put it back in the box. What a pain in the ass. Hopefully, the standalone blu-ray still has the same features.
The rubber knobs that attach these discs to the book aren't very forgiving. I could have cracked it either pulling it off or placing it back on. Either way, I found someone selling an individual copy (from a similar set with identical features) on Amazon for ten bucks.
@Zaranyzerak Talking about that whole situation, I'm not unsubbing or stop viewing their videos. It's kind of like the Michael Jackson trial and shit, yeah they did something bad but as long as I'm entertained by their work, I don't see a reason to just stop watching their stuff.
Some years ago I bought this on ebay and it has portuguese subtitles and audio. I bought another one last year, ebay too, and this doesnt have portuguese audio or subtitles, I don't understand

Are the other four original Planet of the Apes movies (Beneath, Escape, Conquest, Battle) worth getting if you already have the first one?

what's your opinion on the Rise of the Apes trailer? I'm on the fence, but I think it may not be that good.
what is the actual differences besides this one and the UK blu ray, besides the fact it dont come with the bigger box and book?
@Zaranyzerak awesome thanx for the reply!

truenorth1968 You cracked the disc? How the hell is that even possible?

Scaled down re-release from the sound of it. No idea why they didn't simply repackage the same discs.
You seen the trailer for the new "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" movie? If so, are you interested?
speculative science fiction if you wanna be most precise
@BladeOfParthia I got the same problem.
