It perfectly describes how it is to be an England fan (typically): the hope, the passion, the desire for England to finally put their demons to rest and to get one over on the Germans and whoever else. And then when they fail and England let us down, we cry and moan about it only to go through it all again 2 years later in the next tournament. English fans are an emotionally driven bunch, everyone is on the edge of the seats praying England don’t let them down this time, it’s embedded into us that at some point England will “blow it away and throw it away”. Hopefully with England beating Germany 2-0 this week, we have overcome some of this doubt and fear amongst the fans.
It's happening!!!!
@@jonnysupreme no it’s not

The song has a old feel to it and very catchy
Well it is old
And its catchy
Well it's 25 years old
I will agree with u as it is very catchy but there’s an obvious reason why it feels old
I like the song and I'm American
It’s literally a timeless anthem you could listen to it in 100 years time and it would still be good
And in 100 years, it still won't have come home.
@@acleverusername4866 it’s coming home
@@acleverusername4866 maybe this year it's going to be a big ask but it could be coming home at last
The first game I truly remember is England v Spain that Pearce talks about in this doc.
His celebration when he scored that penalty was pure emotion and that passion is what drew me to this game. It was the start of my football journey.
Pierce is the most passionate England player I have ever seen. I love him.
England v Scotland with Gazza scoring THAT goal
Why would you make a new song for any tournament when you already have Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) and World in Motion. Absolute tunes those two.
World in motion is only good once John Barnes jumps in
World in motion is a good song but it's barely a football anthem. 'Love's got the world in motion' just doesn't feel like a football song, 3 lions however is the ultimate football anthem
World in motion is ace.
Three Lions is absolutely dreadful.
THIS is the best though: th-cam.com/video/oMAFme1hBH0/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgxY_Q1acyFTCJdkJq14AaABAg.8g_p15hCjaR9Pln44ugLR_
I'm Puerto Rican and have spent time in England and I support England and I love this song. I'm probably the only Puerto Rican that does so as well.
Glad to have you on our side 👍🏻👌🏼

Double L for you
love baddiel and skinner, what a great song… every england fan can relate and that’s why it’s so so perfect!
In 1996 I was 31 (believe it or not) I had distant memories of 1970! so I witnessed most of The Thirty Years of Hurt ... as metioned in this video it takes a fan's point of view, looking back at 66 and "THROUGH THE YEARS" all our hopes and dreams dashed yet with a overiding vision of HOPE
I am not ashamed to say ... sometimes when I watch the video or hear the song a tear drops from my eye and my voice breakes as I sing all of it ... because I witnessed All Those Years of Hurt
To end on a Positive Note "Its Coming Home" meant two things 1, The tourmanant came "Home" to England and ... 2, We can bring The Cup Home for Us!. Come On England!!!
🏴🏴🏴🏴
My 30 years were experienced from the release of this song maybe it was telling me something 😂
I’m so excited to get a semi. Been ages! Come on England 🏴
England fans: celebrating
Other nations: hate
Yes. I knew we weren’t popular. This tournament has made me realise we’re absolutely hated.
Same here 😬
I think there are a number of key things to it’s success, most of which are covered in this great video.
1996 was this generation defining time in English culture; not just football, but music and film and general celebrity. A fresh generation, united by this prosperity, dreamed to hope the summer of their youth could and would be the same galvanising experience as their parents had in ‘66.
Further, the song tells the story of the football fan through the ages, who ride the ups and downs of their team and live every success and failure with fatalist optimism that this weekend, next weekend, this year and next might be their time.
More, as English football exploded back onto the European and world scene following the ban in the mid-to-late 80s, and as the premier league boomed, a country of passionate fans who normally existed in silos could come together under one solitary flag. This was the anthem that bound them together.
Respect from Indonesia 🇮🇩🏴
I'm Puerto Rican and I've spent time in England and I respect it as well. 🇵🇷🏴
Tsym 🙂
Because it evokes the true emotion behind the team as opposed to blind optimism

The football is coming in your back garden alright

@@zennerzoniy0711 yeah 3-0 🤞🏴🏴
No one has mentioned how beautiful the music itself is. The orchestral arrangement and horns give it more of a bittersweet yet hopeful feel, which is what it feels like to be English.
The song proves exactly how I feel. No matter how much we lose, I will always hope for the next time, no matter what.
Who's here after they just beat Denmark?
After the player go home🤣🤣.. football is coming to rome
7:24 that's the Southampton fan from Derby days South Coast.
A lovely video and brilliant summary of the song. The chorus is so full of hope and optimism.
This guy makes such amazing videos he should be working for the BBC or itv with these quality documentaries
Awesome doc! Thanks for featuring my cover ☺️☺️☺️
Dude! Only even came to the comments because I wanted to know "who's the guy at 9:45?"
It's a shame that non England fans only notice the chorus to the song
Facts. The song perfectly captures England as a nation. We always lose, but we'll never give up and stop hoping.
I wish the whole song was sung. I love the verses
That'ds because the chorus comes across so arrogant and entitled.
And it's why it should be buried and forgotten. THIS is a much better anthem for England football fans (and by an actual decent comedian): th-cam.com/video/oMAFme1hBH0/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgxY_Q1acyFTCJdkJq14AaABAg.8g_p15hCjaR9Pln44ugLR_

Gets you in the mood for national football quick had been lacking in recent years.
Its a great song and its very tongue in cheek…if you dont realise that youre probably scottish
A crucial element was England having that really good run at Euro '96, if we'd crashed out of a group that Scotland got through instead, '3 Lions' would have been remembered as an alright song that never got heard much again.
An indelible moment from that summer came ahead of the semi-final, when English AND German fans sang it coming up Wembley Way.
Absolutely love this song!
The song just gives me nostalgia
I wonder what could happen when they win the euro or World Cup
Stuart Pearce reaction after he scored his penalty, truly iconic moment
What a load of shite. I was there in 96 and to mention unemployment is just ridiculous that everyone got together as one. I went to Sardinia in 90 and we were close but there was still a Liverpool Utd London devide. Its all together now whatever team ya support.

Damn.
What if.......It's coming ROME? 🤔
God I swear that bloke from loaded exists just for 90s nostalgia docs, great era but he symbolises everything shit about the lad culture it spawned
"Lad culture" wasn't invented in the 90s. It had been around for ages. It was just the first time it had really been recognised and reflected in the media, which before then kind of bracked people into "kids - teenagers - adults". James Brown was only at Loaded for the first couple of years, back when it used to be a decent magazine, with a lot to read in it. It then descended into the race to the bottom which culminated in crap like Nuts and Zoo being major players in the 'lads mags' of the day.
@@RevSticklebackit still exists now, it always has it just wasn't represented until the 90s
It's perfect because it has yet to happen. It's like waiting for Jesus to return.

It’s home
coming from Australia, I was there in 96 watching matches, including the ill fated Southgate miss(legends the business sung a great song about that!). But I know 30 years has a good ring to it but it was only 28 years of hurt, up till 96, since England were world champions in 66.... and still the football toast of the world, until Euro 68..... when Italy were crowned European Champion.
Is coming Rome ..is coming ...Calcio is coming home , is coming home is comkng

So now we have England v Denmark.... So I'm guessing we go out to Denmark on penalties then?
It’s Coming To Rome.🇮🇹
After Italy's great victory in the Europeon Cup where we made a lot of jokes to the English for singing this song, it may be that for the World Cup Italy may have to sing: " We're staying home, We're staying home, Italy's staying home again".
Se vi interessa pure noi abbiamo realizzato uno speciale per raccontare i “Giovani ribelli” della nazionale inglese♥️

Well we got the germans back today
Keep telling yourself that - this anthem will forever be the anthem of the euro 1996 german win
And now we knocked germany out
The most annoying thing about this whole thing is the people that are criticising it clearly haven’t fucking listened to it or even just read the lyrics it’s pure ignorance
Do you prefer the lyrics to ITS 96 or ITS 98 version?
@@arthurballs2754 98 “we still believe” “ it could have been all songs in the street it was nearly complete it was nearly so sweet”
@@conahlestrange9794 They'll be milking it forever. Avaricious twits.
It was the theme of Euro 96.
People too young to remember the 90s got into it during Russia 2018, and again in Euro 2020, which is fair enough.
But the 2010 version was an utter failure. People just didn't want to know. They had re-released in it 2002 as well.
Vindaloo was the tune of France 1998. New, and fresh. But that's been milked since.
Look up Rik Mayall's Noble England [2010]. Never caught on, but a genius tune with inspiring stuff form Shakespear
It’s really not ignorant the song is make you get the nation excited and it’s made to say maybe this time it’s coming home
